Hello All: Once again I have been lax in keeping up with the group. Congratulations to Marie and her daughter; I hope you've both recovered somewhat. Az, I'm glad your husband has recovered well and is back at work. Sometimes work is the best therapy.
I've signed up for two HMs this year and will register for at least one more. Two of the three are with my son in Des Moines. The one I will do in this area is the Wisconsin Marathon in Kenosha, WI in early May. Early pricing is $50, which is about as low as I have found. Well run, a good course along Lake Michigan, a finisher's medal shaped like a wedge of cheese (it's Wisconsin after all). I passed on two others because of the high entry fee; one has "early" pricing of $75 through 1/31, rising about every two months to a high of $105 (for a HM?). The other has early pricing of $70, also too high for me. However, they will probably sell out, so the organizers will continue to charge these fees as long as the demand is there. Not with my money.
Our beautiful granddaughter Anneliese Marie is five months old yesterday and continues to be the apple of her father's eye. We plan to go to Iowa in March or April (depending on decent weather) to see her again and then in early June for the Dam To Dam 20K that Randy and I do every year. We both plan to enter the lottery for the Garry Bjorkman Half Marathon (part of Grandma's Marathon) in Duluth, MN again this year. We'll register as a team so that both of us either get in or don't get in. If I get picked again, it will be my third time there. It is expensive at $80, but staying with my sister-in-law and having Randy and family there makes it a family trip with the race as part of the occasion, so for this race I'll break my rule against paying high entry fees. Last year, my wife's niece ran the 26.2 and one of her sister's other kids and his family were there from Minneapolis, making it even better. Don't know if that will happen this year; I think Carrie is "one and done" when it comes to running marathons.
Forecast for tomorow is a high near 60, but with rain. If I get a rain-free window, I'll hit the road, otherwise back to the gym. Lots of runners and walkers there yesterday, but people are very good about watching out for others. I spent close to an hour on the rowing machine and doing my core and weight machine routine, so I didn't have a lot of energy for running. I planned to do three or four miles, but bailed after two.
Have a great week of training and racing.
