Alright I did W4D1, I wasn't sure I could do the 5 minutes, but I did, twice!!! It was awesome. My time was slower but I went the opposite way I usually go and I think I had more uphill this time.  My pace was 5 seconds slower than my 5k pace, so I think it's still good.

DK- Happy to hear your muscles have healed fromt the 5k.  You pushed yourself and they just needed some time, you were right to take the extra day.  In my opinion, your training pace, will always be slower than race pace - the adrenaline cannot be replaced.   Going the distance and doing the intervals is what counts. My first 5k was a few years ago, but I still get chills thinking about that finish line (and yes sometimes I still tear up)

Gilbertholings- WELCOME to the club.  Best support there is.  We would love to share in your successes and struggles with you.  We've been there, are there and understand.

Wideguy- how you feeling?  Don't rush it, just know I'm thinking about you. Getting back after respitory issues is slow.

As for me...my schedule is being juggled due to an upcoming trip and some discomfort in my popliteus (its the muscle that makes you knee bend and extend).  My long run on Saturday will be 8 miles (YIKES).  Yes, this C25K grad is going to sign up for my dream half marathon in 3 weeks, if I can survive.  These are Long SLOW runs, about a 14:30 minute mile pace.  I was confident during the 7 mile run, struggled the last quarter of mile, and then thought I was going to have to crawl to the car during the 1/2 mile cool down.  But I made it.  Getting out of the car however was the real struggle.

And now the real news....our scale stinks if you step on it 4 times you will get 4 different readings.  However, today for the first time in more than six years, two out of four times the scale read 199.8 or 9 someting.  The other two times it was 200.2 or 3.  My BMI is still over 30 (obese).  So will you let me stay a part of the group or should I just avoid the scale so I can participate?

    Happy Running,

    Stephanie

Eden- YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Take the 199.9 and RUN WITH IT!! Pun intended! LOL  That's awesome and I'm so happy for you. I've decided to stop weighing myself since I seem to run the day before weigh in on WW and I'm consistently 2-4 pounds heavier than say two days after running. So I'm going with fit of my clothes and how I look in my running outfits.

    Hi everyone!

It has been a LOOOOOOOOONG while since I have been on this board but I am glad to be back.  I am going to try to reintroduce myself.

My name is Rozette but running people know me as Fluffy.  I don't let being plus sized get in the way of living life.  However, the past couple of years have focused on my daughter.  High school became extremely busy and I became a taxi driver. She now has her license and car so I am free again.  But that is no excuse.  Lots of moms and dads run their kids around and still find time to run.

I completed C25K back in 2009 and loved it.

I live between Galveston and Houston.  I trail run. (There is an 8 mile course 1 minute from my front door.)

When I ran before, my sister and her husband were active but said they could never run. Now they are both runners and my sis works at a running store.  And my brother in law?  Well he consistently takes 1st place in his age group...I am proud of both of them.

I have no intention of winning my age class but I want to get back out there.  In the waiting room of the docs to see her.  Hopefully she will give me the okay.

    Fluffy-

Thank you so much!!! I got my picture from the race printed out, it's me crossing the finish line with my arms up in the air, a huge smile and my son waiting there for me.

Tonight was a record breaker!!!!!!!!!  I did W4D2, and I ran 1.22 miles, at a pace of 11:16. INSANITY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I thought I was slower than before. I felt incredible!  I'm so happy I ran tonight, my glutes aren't happy, but I'll keep stretching them. I'm really looking forward to my next 5k. I guess I need to update my sig line, right?

WG I am glad to hear you were able to go inhaler free.  Alot of people sick around me.  I hope you were able to get on the treadmill today.

DK  11:16  what are you a Kenyan!  That is an amazing pace!   I need to look at my schedule and see when the first run will be available for me.

Well the doctor had good news and bad news for me. Good news:  nothing broken and I should get better with anti-inflammatories and some exercises. The bad news:  well this dang heel spur has delayed my re entry into running by 2 weeks.  But I am using the time I normally would use to run and doing my exercises and stretches.  And it is weird...but they really work.  My heel already feels better but I better listen to the doc.

I'll check in with you guys tomorrow.

    Fluffy-

I don't know what happened, I really thought I was going slow!!!  But I found my comfy pace, so that was awesome. And I finished those 3 and 5 minute runs without getting a stitch in my side which is always a sign of success. But my husband had aggravated me before I went to run, so maybe I was running out frustration????

That's great that nothing is broke and I really believe in the power of stretching. I completely ruptured my right ACL on 10/10/10 and stretching is the only thing that allows me to run. I make sure when I get home I stretch for 10-15 minutes, it's cut down on the broken down body feeling.

    Re: 200+ Pound Club!

    Hi guys,

so glad i found you here!   i too have to start doing something...was running for a while and got under 200 pounds then 2 years ago i tore my ACL - MCL and miniscus skiing and have been a real sloth.

I finally walked a 5K on 3/9/13 in just under an hour...and i started going to the gmy for days a week, using the Elyptical and weights for a hour total.

I am signing up for the 10K Tower of Terror in Oct 2013 in Florida...this will (hopefully) get me on the path i should be on. Really worried about pain/discomfort in my knee, especially at 240 pounds!  UG

    Lets do this!

    200+ Pound Club!

Hello, All.  I am a newbie to all of this, and am planning to walk a 5k this weekend (Sacramento Biggest Loser Run/Walk) as the first in my motivation to get started.  I am 52 and weigh in at 232 - recently became an empty-nester with my daughter now in college, and have decided it is time to focus on me.

I want to set myself a goal of working towards the Big Sur half marathon in November.  Is this doable?

Congratulations Julie!  Both on successfully raising your daughter and on starting your new "you" journey.  Yes, this is totally doable!  I started running a couple years ago when I weighed 310 pounds and ran my 1st half marathon at 280.  I've continued to run (somewhat off and on) and lose weight (also off and on) and am training for my 2nd half marathon and feel great!  My current weight is 230 so I still have some work to do but I'm determined to do it.

My advice to you is to understand this is a hard journey but the reward is so worth it.  And find yourself a good training plan that you can work within.

    Best of luck to you!

    Joan-

I weigh 223 on a good day and I completely ruptured my right ACL, tore the meniscus and strained the MCL and it's totally doable to run on it. Just stretch really well afterwards, especially those negative stretches to get the back of the knee down to floor. And rest when necessary.  I can tell when I run too much and cause too much swelling, my knee won't bend right and the kneecap pops a lot. When this happens, I work on strengthening my quad even more.
