MCM First Timers - "Support Group"

OK, so I ran one marathon (Marathon to Athens) but felt as though I was ill-prepared.  I did a lot of running and was proficient researching and preparing my body inside and out.  But I could have done more, it was apparent.

I'd like to start a thread where MCM newbies can go to post running, dietary, meditative (or whatever) progress, issues, and comments.

Honestly, my running and diet has tanked the last few months.  Diet is ok during the day, but "bored snacking" has been my downfall.  I've used the excuse that I'm too busy to run consistently.  I ran my first 5K tonight since Feb 10.  29:42.  Not bad, I suppose.  Not great.  Middle of the road?  I don't expect to run fast, but my goal is to finish strong.

Honesty = Accountability = Motivation

I am also a MCM newbie and have also (only) run one other marathon (Chicago 2011).  I decided to run MCM because I've just moved into the WDC area (NVA specifically) and figured that this event was the event to do.

My first challenge is figuring out where to do my long runs - I prefer contiguous routes, vs lots of loops, so I'm scoping out where to do that.  If you (or anyone else) live in the area, I'd very much like to get your recommendations.

    It's going to be great!

This is going to be my first marathon!!!! I'm scared, nervous, but mostly super excited!!!

@Justamaniac I love to run the Mt. Vernon Trail and since it goes 14 miles towards D.C. it is a good length with no loopity loops!!!

Re: MCM First Timers - "Support Group"

Be careful what you wish for around here. In 2007 our newbie support group ended up a gaggle of fifteen or twenty of my closest (now in-real-life) friends, including Lenzlaw, who hasn't quite been running this thing as long as it's been around, but a fair bit. We also accidentally became board moderators in the process. We still re-convene from all over the world every year and run MCM "together." (I say together loosely, since of course many of you folks run literally twice as fast as I do!)

Just to give you an idea of what MCM (and this message board) can do. So, welcome noobs and long-lost returnees alike (I'm looking at you, Edski)! If you need to know anything serious, about running, stretching, or life in general, ask Lenzlaw. If you need comic relief or cookies, I'm your girl.

I'm a newbi too..kind a sorta.  Haven't been back here since about 2008. MCM will be my first marathon since my last marathon in April 2011.  Use to love to run marathons but after breaking my leg and stress fractures took a break...so to speak.  So MCM 2013 will be my unofficial first.

Thanks NicoleOrtega1 - but I am so new to the area that I don't even know where the Mt Vernon Trail is.... Can you give me some coordinates?  I've also been advised to try the Washington Old Dominion Trail (but to do it as early as possible when ruining on weekends).

    Thx

NM my last post - I just figured out where the Mt Vernon trail is.... It's that trail that I've noticed that runs along the Potomac on the VA side..

I will give it a go - thx.  (assuming that I can figure out where to park)

This years MCM will be my first marathon. Very excited and a bit nervous. I have been running for a little over a year now. I have done a ton of 5k and 10k races and some longer 7 and 10 mile trail runs. I will be doing my first half May 12th at the Delaware marathon. I am in central Delaware....anyone else from my area? Would love to find some other people in my area that would be interested in running/training together.

great idea.  it's always good to get some support for your runs.  i'm not up to a marathon yet, but it's motivating to see others who are at that level, keeps me wanting to do more!

    Good Idea

I have so far ran two half marathons this year and I am running my first full marathon on 4/6th.

I have also signed up for the St. Louis Marathon in October.

    Hi Everyone!

I would love to join your support group. My husband and I are running the MCM which will be our first marathon. He was in the Marines so it is something he has wanted to do for awhile. We have run several 5ks and 10ks and one half, so we are pretty excited for this to be our first! Looking forward to giving and receiving encouragement and support along the way
