Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of August 26th
Hi all
I have been lurking for some time. All of your post are always very motivating for me. I am 6 weeks from my 1st HM in Baltimore. I have a good base of 15-20 miles a week, but am now 1/2 way thru the cr beginner HM program with my longest run so far of 9. I will have an extra 2 weeks when the program ends and before the race. I started early to allow for injury, set backs whatever.(none of which I have had so far) Which weeks should I repeat before the race?
Heather

Hey everyone. Only a few more weeks left on this shift. I'm going to run 3 tonight. I've got a head lamp and a vest so I should be fine, have to watch out for Deer, and the Drunk Rednecks but other than that I should be fine. LOL.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of August 26th
Hey everyone...

Glad to hear everyone is doing great and welcome to the new folks!

I got out and did 3.6 tonight...felt slow, legs heavy, back tight, muscles sore but I didn't stop and felt ok at the end...thinking some ice tonight might help and some meds...not sure what I plan for tomorrow, either rest or another slow run, maybe 4 depending on how I feel in the morning...

Oh, got my Road ID today...love it...if anyone needs $1 off code, let me know, I have two that I won't use (thanks again spicegeek!)

Have a great night everyone...

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of August 26th
A couple of weeks ago, someone asked about favorite running gear and I have to admit that I did not mention my Road ID. Probably because the only time I even pay any attention to it is when I buy new shoes. It pretty much takes care of itself. But the good thing is that it's there if I ever need it to take care of me.

I usually run by myself and my DD got it for me as a present. Very thoughtful and one that I really appreciate.

Rest day for me today.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of August 26th
I got my road ID today too! Was a very good idea and I really should have gotten one a few months ago.
I am watching the World Track and Field championship right now on tv - I can't believe how fast they run and how long their strides are...mines still a bit of a shuffle. Trying to look at the different running forms, they are actually all very different...I was always of the thought that there was an ideal running form and that professionals probably all practiced it, but I am not seeing it here.
So my husband (who is not a runner) has decided to run the Witch City 5k with me in October in Salem Mass. I am trying to be supportive and let him make his own decisions, but to give him gentle help with form and pace. We did a little half mile jog today on our walk and he said he felt fine. I am actually secretly excited and really hope he decides to give running a try so that I can have a running partner - what better running partner to have than your life partner! But like I said, I am not going to be pushy and let him decide if he likes it or not.
Anyway, looking forward to my morning run - the humidity has dropped some and my hydration pack is ready to roll.

Oh yeah, ctmama, take care of that back! I can feel your trepidation with your half in only 4 weeks...what about a little massage therapy? I go once a month to keep my back monster at bay and it really does do the trick. Keep on the meds and the ice, we are all pulling for you!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of August 26th
Good evening Halfers, just thought I would check in and catch up. I did manage to squeeze in 2.8 this week end. Today I had a tough time with 2.7, this was supposed to be a recovery week. Maybe it will get better.

I am impressed with you 12 milers. My plan calls for a 14 mile two weeks before the HM. To date my longest is 7.

Peg- great pictures!

Creative1- good luck with your recovery before the HM, I hope it goes well.

Alexbobalex- I am addicted to my fuel belt, I don?t run without it.

Toots- 2 goals accomplished, congratulations!

Gale- I do occasionally run holding a towel to keep the sweat out of my eyes. A bottle is to much for me.

Heatherb- welcome, this is a great group. I am going to do a couple of recovery week leading up to the HM.

Good Running!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of August 26th
Happy Monday!
I did an easy 2.5 miles today on the treadmill - I usually don't mind it that much for the short runs, but today I forgot my IPod, so it wasn't quite as fun. This week my goal is to transition into 4 runs each week - this summer I've been doing 3 or 4, depending on where I've been, but I'd like to do a consistent 4. Hopefully it all works out!

ctmama - I'd love a $1 off code for the roadID...I've been feeling guilty recently for not having one. I live alone and you never know when (or where) I'm going to run, so it would probably be a good idea. What info do you guys usually put on it? I'm single and live alone...not really sure what numbers to put!

The longest run I have planned is 12 miles. When I first started thinking about a 1/2 I thought it would be crazy to not do at least 13...but now after running a good bit more, recovering from a stress fracture, and reading a lot...I think 12 is a good maximum for me! I give a lot of credit to those doing 13 - or more! Maybe for my next half ;-)

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of August 26th
Ran a slow 3 miles today. Wasn't feeling all that well last nite and was very lethargic today. I think I may be over-training. I'm going to back off a bit. My HM is in 2 weeks. I don't think more mileage will hurt or help at this point. I know I'm prepared and if I run too much it will not go well, I fear.

Ran with that darned bottle again today. I think I may be able to get used to it. You just gotta keep doing it... ughhh... I forget who said they run with a towel. I run with a bandana. I keep it tucked in my waistband and use it when I need it. It stays out of the way but is there when I need it. It is invaluable and I don't even feel it.
