Re: C25K Week 4 (Running on Water)
blueberry,

Yes, flat feet benefit from correctly fitting shoes. Imagine a flat foot forced to curve over an arch.

Be sure that your shoes aren't worn out and that you have the right model. The modern running shoe has all kinds of high-falutin' gizmos to adjust for the natural structural flaws in just about any foot out there. That's great if you're wearing a shoe that's designed to correct the specific imbalance in your foot. But it can be bad if you're wearing a shoe designed for a completely different type of foot. The wrong shoe can actually aggravate existing problems, causing injuries in your feet, legs, knees or hips.

Here is link to some exercises that might help your shins. http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_5/196.shtml[/URL" target="_blank"> I just started these exercises and it is too soon to say whether they work or not.

But, here's my type of race! It is a 5K. I may not make the top 10, but I certainly could be random

ENTRY FEE: $5

AWARDS: Pies to the top 10 men and woman overall. Pies are also given to random places.

Re: C25K Week 4 (Running on Water)
Just finished up Wk4D3. It was surprisingly easy today. The first 3 minute run was a little stiff like usual but after that I just zoned and kept going. I am still very nervous about wk5d3....I just can't imaging being able to run 20 minutes by next friday...I will go for it though but I can honestly see myself needing at least two tries for that one. Hopefully we can get some more reports in so we can bump this thread to the first page!

Re: C25K Week 4 (Running on Water)
Well, last night I started week 3 over again. I got through it, but it wasn't easy. I definately think I made the right choice to repeat this week.

Does anyone have any breathing tips?

Re: C25K Week 4 (Running on Water)
W4D3, it was warmer then it has been and I didn't drink my glasses of water pre-run that I normally do. I got busy do other things and got out of my routine.

"It never hurts to help a friend". Can you name the show

Run went fine, I felt tight all over, not necessarily tired. Do run further then W4D2 .

Looking forward to W5, but may start on Sunday instead of Monday. My schedule now gets back to being hectic.

Thank you for your input! I had another foot strike analysis done and got some new shoes I'll be trying out tonight with the stretches you recommended as well. I overpronate a lot on my left foot which is where the painful shin splint is the worst. It was good to have done.

Re: C25K Week 4 (Running on Water)
I finished week 4. I struggled a little bit on the 2nd run of the week, but I didn't get good rest before waking up in the morning (work has been VERY hectic lately with a lot of long hours - and after that, I've been trying to still make time at home which has kept me up late every night...waking at 5:30 isn't so easy when you're up until midnight or later). I'm excited about week 5. I am not sure how I'll handle the 20 minute run on day 3, but I'm at least looking forward to trying.

I found a 5K I want to run, it's not until February though - which I guess gives me more time (I might even be able to finish OHR by then) but it's further out than I really wanted.

blueberry567 - so you're in Tempe I'm in Tucson....nice to see someone fairly close. I thought I recognized that name from your other post, now I know why.

Re: C25K Week 4 (Running on Water)
Hi all~

Well, I completed W5D3, yep, the 20 minutes. It wasn't bad. I think it is worse thinking about it than it actually was doing it. For those who have it coming up, I just suggest you focus on starting slow. Starting slow almost felt too slow, but it helped me pace myself for completion, and you know, it felt slow but I finished the usual route so it is still 1.9 miles in 20 minutes I am accomplishing.

Have a great weekend all!

Re: C25K Week 4 (Running on Water)
Yes, Blueberry! Keep going! You can do it!

RDSammons, I know what you mean about getting up early. I teach high school and I usually get up between 5 and 5:30 myself. What's OHR?

Lisa, wow, you're an inspiration. 20 minutes? Congratulations!

I'm pretty awful at this, but I realized today that I'm getting less awful, so that's gotta count for something, right? I did w3d2 again today, and I will confess that usually I leave off that last 1 1/2 minutes of running because in my mind, doing the two 3 minute sessions has to be the most important part, right? Today I gave myself the option to do it, and part of me wanted to do it, so the rest of me caved. I did it and got through it.

I'm seeing progress. It's slow progress, but Rome wasn't built in a day, right? (I'm SUCH a type A. Not mastering this right away is killing me! LOL) I have to remind myself that in the beginning, running a solid minute was hard, and now I do that without a problem.

Re: C25K Week 4 (Running on Water)
ChrissyMarie~
Slow and steady wins the race~ ;-)

I am finding it does get easier. I never would have believed that especially being 60lbs overweight and doing this in the summer! ;-) Trust me, it does get easier, this program works!

Today, I decided to challenge myself. I mapped a 3 mile route and timed myself. These were my results:

20 minute jog
3 min walk
13 minute jog
2 minutes walk

Yep, 38 minutes~so again, if I can do it, nice and slow--so can you! ;-)
