I recently became ill and had to be hospitalized for 2weeks bedrest due to illness, and am now able to walk around again although I am not allowed to do any running. By the time I can begin again, I will have been off training for close to 5, possibly 6 weeks. In the past, i would average around 45km/week running, and would cross train on day in between. Has anyone got any advice or tips on how i should approach retraining when the time comes, how long i can expect to regain my fitness (and how much ability i will have lost) and if anyone has any similar experiences? Any answers welcomed and greatly appreciated.
It would be difficult for anyone to say for sure without knowing what your illness was, but you don't have to be specific about your health records in a public forum. Just use the "rule of thumb" for doubling your down time to guesstimate your full recovery time.
