Team Butterfly Effect- Still out there?

Hello!
Been awhile, I know... My DW and I started back to college this past week. That, and work, and training and family time hasn't left me much time lately for my online family. I hope everyone is doing well. I have a new running partner! Her name is Gracie and she is a German Shepherd/Husky mix. We got her about a year old from the pound. Other than a bad habit of bolting out the door she is a very good dog. She loves to run, so I take her with me just to burn off some of her energy. Once again, hope you all are doing well..

Ed.

Re: Team Butterfly Effect- Still out there?
Hi FatManRunning! Jable here... I've been pretty busy here too, the kids started school this week... yadda yadda yadda. I'm still only running every other day. I seem to be comfortable with that for now. Someone told me to try and do 1 minute running as fast as you can, and walking for 1 minute, for a total of 20 minutes. ( they recommend this for fat burning) Have you ever heard of such a thing? I tried it the other day. It's pretty easy since your recovery time is long. Anyways, take care and nice to hear from you!!! How's everyone else doing?

Re: Team Butterfly Effect- Still out there?
Hi guys! Happy Labor Day weekend. I cannot believe summer is almost over! No fair.

Congrats on your new running partner, Ed! We've got a Gracie, aka Pound Mutt, upstairs. Sounds like yours is better behaved. Just looked at your SW and your CW on your profile. You are kicking butt!

Jable, I've never heard of that plan! I don't think I'll try it though. Slow running is my gig. Still looking for a race to try. Anyone want to join me? I was thinking it'd be fun to all get together and run.

That said, I have not run for two weeks! So it's back at it today, and I'm dreading the return. Serious slippage here. I went to NYC with a friend and then to the beach. Fabulous time, lots of walking, but really no running to speak of.

Good luck everyone! Let us know how you're doing out there.

Re: Team Butterfly Effect- Still out there?
I'm still running, still slow though. The OHR scared me, so I kept with the 30 minutes, but some days running feels so good that I'm finding that once a week or so, I'm running for 60 minutes.

Heat and humidity are killers for outside running, so when it's cool (like today) I run on neighborhood roads.

Last Saturday I backed out of a 5K that I had signed up for. It had rained for a couple of days, and the course was through fields and woods. The dirt parts were muddy and slippery, and I just didn't want to get my shoes muddy. I told my husband, I'll run on neighborhood roads and had my own 5K here.

I'm still slow though, but faster than on the couch. Many of you read my post about a gym trainer saying I'm too old to run - I'm not paying attention to him nor did I join that gym. : )

Re: Team Butterfly Effect- Still out there?
Lswife, you are running for 60 minutes?!!!! That is excellent!

I did not read the post about that evil gym trainer. Ohhhhh, let me at him! Congratulations on hanging in there and not giving in. I'm happy you're doing so well.

I just put in 3 miles, but I had to stop and take a couple of walk breaks. Looked at my mileage for the last three weeks: 5 and 4 and 6. Pretty bad. Oh well, I can't beat myself up for it. A friend of mine is doing a half marathon, and that kind of jolted me out of my slump. Your story is very inspiring too. I need to keep checking back in here!

Re: Team Butterfly Effect- Still out there?
Hey, I'm still around. I just finished up the C25K this morning. Woo hoo!!! It made me feel great to finish. I'm registered for my first 5K in 5 weeks, but I'm not actually running 5K yet, so I'm jumping into Week 4 of Hal Higdon's Novice 5K program on Monday. That will carry me through to my race and get me up to the full 5K distance. After that, who knows, but I want to keep building. I will probably do another HH program because I want to be running at least 4 days a week and the OHR program is only 3 days a week.

Momat40 - Great that you just finished C25K! A big hurrah and applause! For my 5K, I ran and walked, ran and walked, ran and walked. Do you want to run all the way? If so, I am even more impressed.

ThursdayNext - Yep, a young trainer at a new local gym told me to stop running now. If you want to read my story and the encouraging and humorous replies, go to Boomers and Beyond, about August 23.

Re: Team Butterfly Effect- Still out there?
Congratulations of finishing C25K, Momat40. Great job! I still haven't done my first 5k. Am looking online right now for some races.

Lswife, I read the thread. The gym guy is a knucklehead! But in his defense, he's probably young and naive. I seriously doubt most of those guys have any formal training to base their "expert" opinions on anyway. Pfff.

Happy running everybody. Where are Christy Mau and bluelake and the others??

Re: Team Butterfly Effect- Still out there?
Hi all.

I'm still here ... every once in a while. I'm at the gym 5 days per week doing all sorts of cardio/weight lifting. But, I've decided to hold off on the running for a while. Occasionally, I'll run a mile or two, but no 5K's for a little.

I just started taking the alli pill this morning. I know a few people who have had much success with it. We'll see how it goes after a month. Anybody heard anything about it?

Re: Team Butterfly Effect- Still out there?
Hi all! I'm still here. I've been to the site several times, but just now spotted the thread. I'm still doing my own thing, mostly LHR running @ about 20-25MPW.

Christy, let us know how the alli goes. I broke down and tried a green tea/hoodia pill for a couple of weeks. It seemed to take the edge off my appetite, but I started having trouble sleeping. Then about 4 days ago I started feeling dizzy. My BP is ok, not sure if there is a connection with the diet pills, but I quit taking them.

Did I tell yall my news? I'm going to be a grandmother!!! WooHoo!!! My daughter is expecting our first in April. We're still cautious because she had a miscarriage in Jan. Keep her in your prayers.

Good to hear from you guys. Keep posting!!!

Hi all.

I'm vacationing in California but thought I'd check in. No running this week but some great hiking. The Redwood trees are fantastic!! So pretty here. All these hills and twisted trees. Reminds me of the Mediterranean.

Heading back to reality next week. Will check back in then.
