Re: Runnnig Moms and Dads - Sat 9/1
I just posted this on kickrunners, but posted it here too in case kickrunners goes down again
Hey guys!! I've been home for awhile but was taking an ice bath and resting.
So, the race was GREAT!!! I met a girl from Virginia in the early part of the race and we ran the whole thing together. I didn't even listen to my Ipod, just chatted with her the whole time.
Race started at 7:30, the weather was perfect for running.. cloudy, not humid at all and about 60 degrees. I was a little worried about my leg, but I think all the adrenaline I had running through me helped...lol. The first 3 miles were pretty easy. Mile 4 starts up the hills. The first hill is even named. Because we live in the capital city, they named the hill Capital Punishment. At the bottom off the hill there is a sign that says Capital Punishment begins here...lol. I thought running up this hill would be extremely difficult, but I felt great and passed quite a few people. After that big hill the race goes through quite a few more hills. From mile 4to about mile 7 are pretty much all uphill. There were tons of water stations, and the crowd was awesome. There were a lot of people yelling, and cheering, and several people were blaring the Theme from Rocky from their homes and cars. When we got to mile 8, I couldn't believe we had already ran 8 miles, it was going by so fast. Then we ran through the capitol grounds which is so pretty and they had sprinklers set up to spray everyone. Mile 10-11 were pretty dead crowdwise, but I was still feeling great. When I came into the stadium that we finish at I couldn't believe it was already over. As you come in they announce over the loudspeaker your name and hometown. It felt so good hearing them say my name. As I came around the last turn, I heard Go MOmmy! I looked over( I knew my kids and brother were going to be there), but there was my kids, my brother, 2 aunts, and one of my uncles. I gave them the big thumbs up and a huge smile, and crossed the finish line at 2:23:00. It was sooooo much fun!! I'll definitely be doing that race again. My uncle who was there, used to run it every year, but hasn't for a few years because of some knee problems, and afterwards he told me that in 2 years when he turns 60 he plans on running it again, and he wants me to be running with him!
THANK YOU ALL for all of your well wishes and support, I thought about you guys quite a few times while I was running!!!
