Re: The Long Haul - WEEK 9!!!!!!!!!!!
What a crappy finish to C25K! My last day and it was my worst run. I've tried to analyze the whole picture, lol. I haven't run since Monday and I think that's a big part of the problem. I just couldn't loosen up. I ran after the sun was up and it was 17 degrees hotter than it normally is when I run. I was so hot, my head hurt, I was nauseated any my HR was 180 (my max is 179). I've been running 3 miles without stopping for the last several weeks. It's taken me as long as 45 minutes but I was able to run for 45 minutes without too much difficulty.
Today I had to walk for a minute on 3 separate occasions and then had to walk the last 0.3 mile. Finally finished at a pitiful 50:38. So, I'm sitting here naked, with the fan blowing on me, drinking a glass of chocolate soy milk and a bottle of water and feeling like ****.
Gotta love this running

Re: The Long Haul - WEEK 9!!!!!!!!!!!
Hello everybody!

Completed W8 D3 today. I actually kept running past the 28 minutes. I ran 3 1/4 miles. I did have to take 2, one minute walk breaks. I feel very good about how I did today.

To celebrate W9 and graduation next week. I have signed up for a 5K. Next Saturday morning I will actually be running in a 5K! I can't believe I signed up for it! Lord help me, lol

Re: The Long Haul - WEEK 9!!!!!!!!!!!
Woohoo! Week 9, day 3 is done! I'm dripping wet, as it's hot and humid here. I ran for 35 minutes, only about 2.2 miles for me since I'm slow. I will start OHR and work on distance during those 3 weeks of 30 minute runs.

I like the idea of staying together as Long Haulers, with each person doing their own thing, whether it be finishing C25K, OHR or ?HHT (or something like that I've read about here)!

I too signed up for a 5K on Sept 30. Lord help me!

Vanessa

Re: The Long Haul - WEEK 9!!!!!!!!!!!
I finished C25K yesterday morning with a good 3.15 mile run. Took just about 35:28, which is within three seconds of what I ran it in two days before. At least I'm consistent!

Everything went great, except I developed a stitch in my left side that wouldn't go away for very long. I breathed it away on a few occasions, but it kept coming back. I didn't let it stop me, though -- I ran the entire way!

I'm signed up for my first 5K on Sept. 30 too. I'm looking forward to sharing race reports!

I haven't figured out what I'm going to do post-C25K yet. For now, I figure I'll just add on distance in small bits each week until I'm somewhere in the 5 mile range. After that, who knows?

I'm looking forward to keeping up with the rest of you as you complete and transcend C25K!

Re: The Long Haul - WEEK 9!!!!!!!!!!!
I like the idea of sticking together, too. No matter what we go on to, we all know that we started out together. (Darn near brings a tear to the eye...)

W7D3 was a great run this morning. The warm air came back to New Brunswick, in Canada, just to tease us! Didn't check the weather forecast last night - just got out of bed at 6am & got dressed. Capri pants, t shirt and jacket were a little much! Shorts and t shirt would have done the trick. Oh well - I just think of the excess liquid I lost in sweat!!!

Congratulations, graduates! I will be there in 2 weeks.

Week 8 is done. I'm ready for Week 9. I subscribed to Runner's World today. Does that mean I'm officially a runner now?

I like the sound of that, too!

Hey everyone... I've been missing for a few weeks... I stopped running for a little while (stopped EVERYTHING, really) but now I'm back on track. I just repeated W6D1 and it was hard for me, but I'll keep on keepin' on! I think I restarted at the right spot. My last run was W6D2 a few weeks ago. I figured I'd play the W6 podcast and see where I needed a rest. Turned out even the day 1 was a push! But don't worry! I'll keep pushing!

***Note: I DID miss running while I was "off"... (I never thought I'd say that!) I really missed this group and how supportive you all are! I just couldn't get myself together to do anything.

Re: The Long Haul - WEEK 9!!!!!!!!!!!
Hope everyone's weekend is going good. I like the idea of keeping the group together, I know it will help keep me motivated. It feels good to know we have all come so far, but we can do more. So don't let this be the end, but just the starting point for better things for each of us. I think I will make up my training sked from the OHR and HH Novice Program. I will have one day a week that I will do my long run on, I'm going to increase about 10% each week.

I ran my 2nd 5K this morning and all went well. The first race I didn't take any water, but this time I did and felt better the 2nd half of the race. My time improved over Monday's race and I felt good at the end for a better finish. I was shocked when they called my name for 2nd in my age group (55-60 Male). This is the first time I have ever won a trophy.
I enjoyed visiting with some of the familes that I had met in the frist race and saw several friends there that I didn't know raced. The fellowship was great after the race, so don't leave as soon as you finish running. It was fun to watch the kids do the one mile fun run, the 9-10 YO's ran a mile just over 6mins.

Everyone needs to sign up for a race soon, you can do it!!!! Just slow down and you can finish.

Good luck to each of you.

Happy Running,

Frank N Mississippi

Re: The Long Haul - WEEK 9!!!!!!!!!!!
Frank that's awesome you completed your 2nd race! Congrats on 2nd place- that is really great! I ran W8D3 today - 2.75 miles in 26:19. I am really enjoying running outside (this is the first week I have done that). I didn't feel like I had a lot of energy this morning - I find it easier to run at night. For those of you that run in the morning - what do you eat before? I have to be really careful to not really eat much before I run because otherwise I get terrible side stitches. Any advice on something that will give me enough energy?

Re: The Long Haul - WEEK 9!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't eat before my AM run. I usually only have a sip of water if I need it and brush my teeth before I go! (I like the minty breath when I'm panting!)

Re: The Long Haul - WEEK 9!!!!!!!!!!!
Congrats on the 5K's everybody!!

I wish I could be running along with you. I went out on Thursday night to go for a 20 minute jog in the woods. It didn't quite go the way I planned. I ended up jogging for about 1 mile, broken up into 5 and then 2 minutes sections. My ankle just wouldn't cooperate. It's still a bit swollen and I've lost a lot of flexibility over the last few weeks. I was really hoping to pick up where I left off. I guess not.

My first 5K was supposed to be Columbus Day weekend, but I don't think that's going to happen any more. I'm still going to try for it though. We'll see how far I'm running by then.

Cheers!
Sarah

Hi Frank N Mississippi

I'm on the coast in Mississippi- are you close by? You're the first M'sippian I've seen on C25K.
