Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of September 9th
Well, haven't run since my small knee injury on Sunday...knee feels fine now, however I pulled a muscle in my lower back and have been flat since Tuesday...so CTmama is there something in the water here in CT or what? I am itching like crazy to get out for a run, but don't want to prolong my pain...will give it a go on Sunday.
Got some great info from my post on the best way to run downhill. That is what I really appreciate about this site, very knowledgeable people that are more than willing to share tips.
Boy you Texans are getting some crazy weather the past month. Hope you are all doing well and keeping dry.
Happy runs to all!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of September 9th
Third day in a row of running for me. Did 4 easy miles tonight. That brings me up to 13 for the week (my week starts on Monday with a rest day), Just wish doing a half marathon was as easy as three short runs in three days. But my legs felt pretty strong tonight which is an improvement. I run 3 days then one off then 2 days then one off. Generally, the last day of the 3 day stretch is really a stretch to call what I am doing running. It is more like a crawl preformed in an almost upright position. lol But tonight it felt pretty decent. Plus the weather was great, sunny & mid-70's.

Tomorrow is a rest day for me. Good runs to all.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of September 9th
Checking in with only have of my 7 mile tempo done...my GI track had other plans...so needless to say I ran home quickly. Got too dark for the porta potties...{wink}

Sheila - in your settings you have to make sure the box is checked for doing multisport automatically. If not you'll have to change the sport each time you switch. HTH

Great job everyone, hopefully I'll have better luck with my 9 miler on Sunday.

Looking forward to DH getting home on Saturday evening...we tried to run together on Monday but we weren't at the same pace...maybe one day!

Good night all!

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of September 9th
Good moring halfers! Love hearing about the cooler weather everyone seems to be having.

Fit45, stargazing on a run is fun! There was the prettiest scene last Sat. As the sun was just starting to come up, there was the crescent moon, a large star/planet next to it, all over a bridge leading to the park trail by the creek. Beautiful!

Gale, good luck in your races. Hopefully that fall and the soreness will fade quickly. Congrats on being a survivor and enjoy the races! They have special categories for survivor race winners, right? Maybe....

Joe, your story was funny! Glad you had your cell phone with you. How's it going with ditching the MAF?

Ctmama and Alexb, hope you and everyone else who is injured are on the mend! Back pain can be so debilitating and hard to "fix".

It's been a pretty good week of running for me. Just one bad day out of four so far. 2.5 miles (TM) on Mon, 6.2 miles (mock 10K) on Tue, 4 miles (14 hill repeats + 1 mile warmup and 1 mile cooldown) on Wed, 3 miles (tempo) on Thurs. Plus lots of walking, both after the runs and with dogs. Today is a "rest day", no running, but heading over to mow my father-in-law's yard. Tomorrow, one training group is doing 9 miles and another one 10 miles. I'm seriously considering going for the 10 just because it seems like such a milestone. If I do it, it will boost my confidence that I really CAN do this 1/2 marathon thing. We'll see how I feel in the morning.

Happy weekend halfers, and yes...inquiring minds want to know...who is racing this weekend besides Gale?

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of September 9th
Good Morning
I made it out the door at 5:30am for a windy 5(almost) mile run. It was very slow going. My legs don't do so well when I run 4 days in a row. I need to work on that. I almost made it the entire 5 but had to cut it short to make it to the potty in time. I'm so tired of that happening. Thank goodness there are port-a-potties on the 1/2 route.

Tonight we are having people over after the HS home FB game for beverages and they probably won't leave until 2:00am. Then I'm up early to go to a craft fair all day to do some Christmas shopping. Sunday I have 8 on the schedule and the week taper officially starts. WHEW HEW!!

Good Luck to all those that are racing! Happy running everyone.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of September 9th
Good Morning Halfers, I have been MIA for a couple of days. My DW has had a major project due for school so she has had the computer occupied. I am at work during a break so the shout outs will be minimal. However, I would have to label myself as the shout-out slacker of this bunch.

My training for this week: Tuesday- 12 x 400, Wed- 5.02, Thurs- 5.05, Friday- off, Sat- 8.

I agree with everyone that the weather is certainly more inviting for running these days.

Welcome caitex and blueberry, I see that you all fit in nicely with this group.

Joe- better start working on a second ?get out-of-jail free? card. Good story!

Gale- good luck this weekend. Along with any other racers. My 5k is not until the end of the month. I envy all of the racers.

Carol40- sounds like your training is improving. Keep up the hard work.

Corrina- hope you are feeling better these days.

Shiela- I also have a hybrid bike. I occasionally I ride it for distance but mostly to work and back (6 mile round trip)

Gale- injuries at night have been one of my biggest worries. I am really surprised that I have not turned an ankle on a pine-cone yet. Feel better!

Chuck43- I understand the reasoning behind the ?no headphone? rule. But I would rather not use the MP3 anyway. I would much rather have someone to talk with. If I must run alone I usually listen to the steverunner podcasts.

I need to get back to work.
Good running and racing this weekend!

I don't know if I mentioned that before. Maybe, because I haven't had it that long. I think I got it in early-mid August.

How many others are using Garmin 305?

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of September 9th
Hi Everyone!!

I'm back online and mostly settled in the new house. I will never, ever, ever move again - I'm in the new house until the ceiling starts to fall and the foundation crumbles beneath my feet, and even then I might not budge.

Didn't get in as much running as I would have liked too during the move but on Saturday after too long of a break, I got out and did 11.3km (longest run to date) and then last night, my girlfriend and I ran and lost track of time while we chatted. I think we did just over 8km. Gearing up for a 13-14km run on Sunday - there's a trail near our house that loops around a reservation/marsh area, it's 5km out and 5km back, so that plus a loop through the neighborhood will get me my targeted distance. I'm absolutely loving the cooler weather for these long runs.

How is everyone doing? Anything new and exciting happening? I obviously can't get caught up - there's too much going on here, but I did read Joe's story about getting locked in the park, LOL!

It's really, really nice to be back .

Hey Halfers! (Sounds like I am calling everyone a Heffer) - LOL

Been MIA for the past two days. Since I couldn't get my fanny out of bed to run I waiting till evening each night only to find it storming.
I do plan on going for a run each morning on the weekend.

I did some research on the Garmin 305 and YIKES - you need to know my darling hubby to see his that his butt cheeks squeek when he walks he is so cheap. hahaha I looked on ebay but still on the high end. Any other options or do I save up for the Garmin??

I have the Garmen Forerunner 205, It's around fourty dollars cheaper but it doesn't have the heart moniter with it. I think thats the only difference but not sure. If you get one you'll love it, maybe more than the hubby, LOL.

Re: 1/2 Marathon Trainers, Week of September 9th
Hi everyone!

I'm a new runner and I am training for a HM the first week in Dec. I started training a week and a half ago, and I have run 5 times since at 4 miles each run. I am using the Galloway program, but I am going to have to shorten it a few weeks. I chopped off the first week, and I will have to loose another week in the middle somewhere.

I am mixing in about 15% walking with my run, but I am averaging 10.5 min/mile.

My goal is to finish in under 2:30. Is this doable or half baked?

Cheers!
