Re: Run For Your Life - Week 8 (9/10-9/16)
W6D2 is finished, and it was great! D1 was really hard and it was only 8 minute blocks, so I was worried about 10, but I felt great. There were 2 women on TM's beside me walking, and they kept looking at me. 2 months ago I would have been self-conscience and left, but yesterday I was proud of myself, and figured that they were wishing they could run! 2 nights ago my dh was admiring my legs. He was kind of shaking my thigh, and said, wow, nothing moves! And you know what?! He is right! I measured last night and I have lost .75 inches off of each thigh, .5 off of each calf, .5 off my hips and .5 off my waist. Not a ton, but considering I haven't changed my eating at all I am thrilled!! I am also down 4 pounds, so I couldn't be happier! Thanks to everyone here for your motivation.

Re: Run For Your Life - Week 8 (9/10-9/16)
I did W7D1 last night. I have a hard time starting out too. It seems like after I get passed the half-way point, then I'm fine.

I was thinking about signing up for a 5k too. I mentioned it to my dad and the surprise in his voice was priceless! There's one near my house at one of my favorite parks. I'm going to try to go there on Sunday and see if I can run around it and see how long it takes me. I'll just count that as W8D1 for me. The 5k isn't until Nov. 11th so I'd have 2 months to get ready. I'm just not sure how I'd do, it's pretty scarey. But at the same time I really really want to try it.

What am I supposed to wear for that? I do not wear shorts and unless I magically lose all of my weight there is no way i'd wear some kind of spandexy workout top. Am I allowed to wear pants and a regular t-shirt? It'll probably be really cold by then so I'd imagine other people would be. I'm cracking up right now because I just realized I'm not scared to run the 5k, I'm scared that I don't know what to wear! hahaha...Oh another thing is that they give special awards for different groups and one I would fall into is Clydesdale which is 160 lbs+. I don't know if I'd be embarrassed if I won that or just happy. I don't know any women who want to be classified as a Clydesdale so I don't know why they called it that???

I was getting frustrated about the scale not moving very much so I had my husband measure me last night. The last time we measured was 4 weeks ago and I have lost 2 inches off my tummy, 1/4 off each upper arm, 1/2 off each calf. I've also gained 1/4 on each forearm, I don't know what that was from! That made me feel much better.

Re: Run For Your Life - Week 8 (9/10-9/16)
We'll let me start this by saying that this had to be the worst run of the training program for me. The first couple of minutes felt really good. I really have to break it down into 5 minutes intervals as well. I ended up running about a mile in about 8 minutes so my pace was way out of line of what I had been doing. So when I slowed the pace it just about killed me. I noticed leg aches and cramps and had to walk the majority. I do think that I may have pulled up lame somewhere during the run. I actually ended up doing 2.25 miles and that was walking the last 10 minutes of the run and my 5 minute cool down. I think I am going back to Robert's week 6 so that I have the intervals to help with the run so much more. Hope that everyone is doing good and I will probably just go ahead and start the 30 minute run on the next run and just keep it up for a couple of weeks before starting any other running program. By the way I have been doing weight lifting and wondering if anyone has incorporated this into the run as well. I really think that it is starting to play a role in my distance running. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Re: Run For Your Life - Week 8 (9/10-9/16)
Hi all,

Day two down and I went really far! It must have been the cool weather but I finished my 1.5 route shortly after robert said I was half way through! Then, I ran to my 1.7 mark and around the soccer fields so I can't measure how much that would be. Overall, I am pretty sure it was over 2.25 miles which would be my farthest yet. School is kicking my butt this year - aside from teaching, i am interning as an administrator AND taking classes AND raising twins....AND fitting in running! The two last ones are the best tasks.....

Enjoy everyone!

Re: Run For Your Life - Week 8 (9/10-9/16)
Hey everyone!

I ran W7D1 today on the TM. It is always tough for me to get going in the beginning...and it's mostly mental for me. I did make my own music mix to listen to, which has helped tremendously, but i do miss Robert telling me how well I'm doing!

Christy- I think you asked about the TM. I do have a TM at home, but I actually use the one at the gym. I like mine at home SO much better (we bought a really nice EPIC TM from Costco a couple of years ago) but right now I don't have anywhere in my new house to put it, so it's sitting in my garage - where it's not air conditioned....so I can't use it now in the 90 degree Florida heat! I run on a Stairmaster TM at the gym.

NewMama - LOL! Your post is hilarious! You can wear whatever you want to race in...but whatever you do, you should train in the clothes you are going to wear before the actual race....some races give you t-shirts they want you to wear during the race...but not all of them. You can wear pants, shorts, or capris! How funny that THAT is what you are worried about!!!! That means your confident in your running abilities - and you SHOULD be!! you'll do great!

Congratulations to all of you who have lost weight and inches! I'm very impressed, and a little jealous! I actually have gained 3 pounds in the last few weeks....but I have not been watching like I should be, so I have nobody but myself to blame. You all should be proud!

I have been thinking about what to do next, and I think that I am going to finish C25k on the TM, and then once the weather cools off a little bit here in S. Florida, I am going to try to build up to 30 minute runs outside. I know that when I finish the program on the TM, I will not be able to just run outside at the same pace or fo the same length of time...so, that will be my initial next goal - to be able to run a 5K outside, and then I think I might try the OHR program.

Rachel - I've missed you! Hope you had a GREAT vacation, and can't wait to hear all about it!

Have a great week everybody!

Re: Run For Your Life - Week 8 (9/10-9/16)
My run today was very eventful! An evil little dog almost bit dd on the warm up walk. About halfway through our run a HUGE monster dog materialized out of nowhere- didn't try to attack, but scared the sh**t out of us, then on the way back home a THIRD dog attacked us. Being a well prepared runner I had a can of pepper spray and had to spray the dog to get him to leave us alone. It didn't seem to bother the dog much, but it got up our noses and down our throats so we RAN home with snot running down our faces from the pepper spray. To top off all of that it started POURING during our run. It was kind of nice to keep us cool, but it was raining so hard that we could barely see, I slipped in some mud banged into a tree. I don't know if I can say we ran the whole 28 min as we did freeze in fear when the big dog jumped out, and we had to pause to pepper spray the third dog, but we did manage a good all out sprint on the way home. I am seriously starting to consider a treadmill. It seems much safer!

Christy, That's terrible? Are you both OK?

Nathan, I would like to add strength training to my regimen and will do so after it's cold and I'm at the YMCA. I've done it before and it increased my stamina. I got lazy and stopped.

Rachel, we did miss you. Welcome back.

Eviey, Thanks for posting those programs I'll check it out. I'm unsure what to do next.

Stacey: re your post about biting off more than you can chew? The old riddle... How do you eat an elephant? One bite at a time.

Jennifer, welcome back good to hear from you. Say hey to Avery for us.

More later, Need to get ready for work. Peace, Di

Re: Run For Your Life - Week 8 (9/10-9/16)
Well I finally ran W8D1 last night and I have to admit it felt really good. I had to remap my run because I am getting back to my house too soon. Currently my warm up walk & run is 2.54miles. My new running route is 3.12 miles total. It?ll be interesting to see how it goes, I?m going to run it for the first time tomorrow. A downside is I will no longer be running by the horse stables which I love seeing them on my run! I?ve been reading the posts and I have to admit, I haven?t lost a single pound and it?s starting to get aggravating! I haven?t measured myself in a while so maybe I?ll do that but the scale stays where it?s been since I?ve started running! Maybe I should add in strength training but then I would have to join a gym and I?m cheap!

Re: Run For Your Life - Week 8 (9/10-9/16)
I haven't lost an ounce either however I really haven't changed my eating to eat less or better. I can see a difference in my body and while I am not a supermodel, my clothes fit better and I am inching towards my smaller/pre-pregnancy clothes. I am willing to give this all the time it takes. Whether the scale complies or not, i feel better and that is what is most important. So, push through the frustration and enjoy what you are doing for your physical and mental well being.

Oh my gosh you guys!! I did it! I ran for 25 minutes WITHOUT STOPPING!! And what's even more amazing is that I felt really good and didn't have to talk my self into finishing. I was so proud of myself it was riduculous. My only problem was that I got bored. Not tired or winded but bored! I am still amazed. Week 7, here I come!

Re: Run For Your Life - Week 8 (9/10-9/16)
Congratulations Stacy!!! It's such a great feeling getting through that 25 minute run, I bragged for two days straight to anyone who would listen! Well done!

I am also on the "not losing weight" bandwagon, I'm not too bummed about it though because I definitely feel a difference in the way my clothes feel and I haven't gained! That's good enough for me! My friend did C25K and she said she didn't even start dropping weight until the tenth week of running, meaning the week after the program was officially done. She continued on her thirty minute runs and increased three minutes every week until she was up to an hour of running. At week ten she said the weight started melting off. Maybe our bodies are just trying to get used to the increased intensity and building muscle?

I'm actually starting tomorrow on logging my food intake and tracking my calories. Whenever I track how much food I'm eating I instantly lose weight. I was going to start yesterday but the past two days have been some of the toughest recently. My daughter is finishing up on her teething and we've been in and out of bed with her every hour at night and my mom called me yesterday and told me she wasn't able to get out of her bed because something popped in her leg and she couldn't move. I drove to her home and was able to get her out of bed with the help of a family friend and took her to the hospital (while toting my baby along!) I know it had to be so embarrassing for my mom, not being able to get out of her bed. Her ciatic nerve has crapped out on her and she is now staying at my house so I can be here for her and then she's going to have to go to physical therapy. To top it all off, my husband had to go to San Diego for work and has missed all this! I'm exhausted! And no, I haven't run. I'm hoping to get a run in tomorrow during Avery's nap time, if anything it will help to relieve the stress! Wow, how lucky are you all to get to read all of that? Sorry, it's been a rough two days.

I hope you are all well and enjoying your runs, keep us updated. I love hearing about everyone's successes and even the hinderances, because those are what we usually learn the most from. Take Care.

Re: Run For Your Life - Week 8 (9/10-9/16)
I don't know who sent the wimp my way, but I want all of you to know I kicked his assets and sent him packing!!

Along with the wimp, I politely got rid of Robert Ullrey this week. His timed podcasts were fabulous for the first 7 weeks, but now that I am into week 8, it's just a bore.

I was scheduled to run my W8D1 yesterday. I put on my running shoes, dropped my son off at football practice and headed to the track to try that out. The track has that cool softer material to run on, thought it might be a nice break for my legs/hips. After 15 minutes I was breathing hard and my chest began to hurt. As much as I didn't want to stop, I am not trying to give myself a heart attack So the wimp won, and I stopped and started to stretch and then pulled a muscle in my leg stretching. That's when I got mad and kicked that wimps behind!!

Normally I don't run 2 days in a row, but I didn't count yesterday. (uh, how cool is it that I think a 15 minute run doesn't count!!)

Anyway, I got up this morning at 6, headed over to the gym, got on the treadmill, did my 5 minute walk, 28 minute run, and 5 minute cool down to my own music, 'thankyouverymuch'!!

I'm still going to follow the C25K, just with some better tunes

Sunday I will run the W8D2 ~ hope everyone is doing well and keeping it up.

The wimp shouldn't be messing with any of you this week, I sent him off to another group!

Keep putting one foot forward ~

Sandra

Man I'm up against the wall this week. I'm bored, frustrated, and absolutely unmotivated. I've done the runs, but it has been difficult, both physically and mentally. I hope this is just a hump that I need to get over.

Hey Rach, did you like our record settting rain while you were in TX? You could have changed from running to swimming while you were here

Everybody keep it up. Next wek is graduation week!

Re: Run For Your Life - Week 8 (9/10-9/16)
Stacy, Congrats to you on your 25 min run!!!

Jennifer, I'm sorry about the ER trip. These are the things that show us what we are really made of. Good job takin' care of business. I used to tell myself that sleep is overrated anyway.

Aaron, I can relate to being unmotivated. On Tuesday I shut my alarm off. It was the first day of scheduled training I had missed. It's dark here in the am and starting to be colder, too. (Hard to tell the skunks from the rocks in the dark!) I ran after work on Wendsday and that worked out so well I ran on Thursday too. I added another hill to make the full 3.1mi and although I didn't finish running the whole way in the 38 min 5+28+5 I did keep going make the distance. I felt much better. I think for me, I was overtired and needed some TLC. Maybe changing the time was helpful in getting over the hump because for the first time there was some resistance in me.
Tomorrow my dd has an invitational x country meet with 70 schools and over 1000 students. I will be working at it so that should be fun to be around all those runners.

We gotta hang tough guys. Life will happen; kids, work, injuries and illness. We are still light years ahead of where we were just 6-8 weeks ago.

Oh, BTW, the scale hasn't moved for me either although I haven't changed my intake much. I only want to loose about 6 pounds but I have noticed my ankles are looking less "peasant like". (I'm from sturdy stock!) Peace, Di
