Re: Sprint/Oly Trainers wk of 4/9
Good morning everyone! 45 minute spin class today. I'm bound and determined to get back into a regular workout schedule. Of course DH comes home with a bad cold yesterday so I'm keeping my distance from him. Still darn cold in Chicago-chance of snow tonight
Have a good day all!

Re: Sprint/Oly Trainers wk of 4/9
Stardog- I, too, need to work on core. That's my biggest problem. My legs are also weak. That's my problem on the bike. Needless to say, I haven't done anything but run 4 miles since last Wednesday! EEK! I'll get back on track starting tomorrow, though. I feel like I can run forever at a certain point too. My legs used to be the problem, but they have definitely gotten stronger over time.

Julie- I'm excited about the Danskin as well. I've heard it is awesome! I'm just worried about all the hills I hear about.
I know a cotton sports bra would NOT work in the water. What Champion bra do you have? Do you know the name or style number? I have one that is not cotton (I think it is nylon/spandex), but it isn't my favorite. I got it because I wanted to see if I liked the wicking fabric better. I prefer the cotton for the support, but not for swimming! LOL I also don't think the tri suits are all that flattering. I like that DeSoto. It is pricey, but I may splurge. I prefer two pieces for the bathroom issue too! So, the ?built in support suspended from the shoulders? is not enough? I assumed not. Is it just a shelf bra? Is it comfortable to wear your sports bra under it? I assume so or you wouldn't do it! LOL Do you have those shorts or different ones?

Hobey- Glad you had a great vacation. Never had a concrete before, huh? Don't think I'd survive without those! We have a place just a block from our house where we can get them! Mmmmm!

Kymber- You are doing a lot! You can do it, though. Don't worry about trying to be supermom, though. Sounds like we have similar lives. I have 3 children under the age of 6, but I stay home. I am working today, though. I sub in the kids room at the gym, so I'm there 9-1. The thing that stinks is I'll be at the gym, but I can't workout!

Runxc- Love your picture!! I'm going to look around and see what I want to wear. Y'all have really helped! I didn't make you feel lazy, I hope!

O.K. No bike yesterday. Our evenings are just so crazy with the kids stuff. Tomorrow I'll bike on the stationary at the gym, do some weights, then swim in the evening. I'll get back in the swing of things.

Re: Sprint/Oly Trainers wk of 4/9
Happy Tuesday, everyone.

I had a 90 min trainer session, pushing some big gears for part of it, which irritated my ITB a bit...(argh). I also had some lovely PT, including more lovely painful Graston. Hatin' it. I'm scheduled for 2 more weeks of PT, then she wants me to start getting deep-tissue massage regularly to keep my muscles more loose. (Hooray- more money!) I guess it's all for the greater good!

Re: Sprint/Oly Trainers wk of 4/9
I got in the pool today for the first time in over a year and a half! I did 600yd freestyle (10x20y, 10x40y) resting for 4 breaths between each 20 and 8 breath between each 40 (my pool has no pace clock). I didn't have a nose clip so it was rough getting all that water up my nose. Friday I will remember to bring it and see if I can string together some 60s and 80s. I will also be making some appointments from some swim lessons. My technique is awful.

Good workouts everyone.

Re: Sprint/Oly Trainers wk of 4/9
Julie- Thanks! I'll get me one of those. I almost got that one when I got my other one. I'm a 32D (which is really more like a C cup, but I'm small around) Now I just have to decide how much to spend on the tri outfit. Can't decide whether to splurge or not.

Stardog- When you are swimming, you should be breathing in (to the side of course), then you breathe out underwater as you are swimming (blow bubbles). If you do that, you will not get water in your nose. If you do flip turns, you'll have to do the same on the turn. Breathe just like you do when running or doing anything else. Practice it on the side of the pool with your strokes and you'll feel it before you get in the pool. My breathing is how I keep my rhythm. I'm sure you are out of practice after a year and a half, but you did great. How did you swim a 20y? Is that how long the pool is? Weird. I've only swam in 25 or 50 pools.

I ordered my HRM today from Polar. I got the F4. I think it will be enough for now. Chris, how do you like your Garmin? I read about it. It sounds cool, but it looks awfully big for a female. Amazon had a good price on it, though ($200?) I want to use mine swimming, so I went with the Polar. Maybe someday I'll upgrade to an all-in-one. For now, I'll wear two devices (my Polar F4 and my Garmin 101)! I won't have to wear the Garmin when I'm running on my regular track because I know the distance, but when I go off somewhere else (which I like to do), I'll need it.

I also got me some over the ear earbuds for my ipod because my earbuds always fall out!! I can't wait for the UPS man to show up next week!!

Re: Sprint/Oly Trainers wk of 4/9
Good morning! So far, a good week for me. Ran my last pre-marathon long run on Monday morning - 20 miles, and the first time I've run that distance without pain/crying/etc. Felt really good and eek! I can't believe Big Sur is only 19 days away.

This morning was my first session of Intro to Masters swim coaching - I decided I needed the extra help to get my swimming together and signed up through our tri club. So far, so good. I got a serious workout, did drills I haven't done before, swam further and for a longer period of time than I've done before, and got my butt kicked. Yay! Looking forward to the remaining 7 sessions of the class. Maybe I'll have to sign up for the next one too!

The rest of the week looks reasonably light for me, as I head off at 4:30 am Thursday morning to a 4-day competition with my dog, where I'll be spending 10 hours a day running between competition rings and doing agility with him. That should be about all the running I can handle anyway this weekend!

And speaking of nose clips, are those legal to wear in races? I have not trained without one as I have a funny nose and it doesn't keep water out properly

Re: Sprint/Oly Trainers wk of 4/9
Alicia- You might be faster at the university pool because it might be a faster pool. It could also be the time of day. I know our university has one of the fastest pools in the world (The University of Texas). I had my college class there, and it is so cool because the water runs over the top edge into a drain thing, so there are no waves. It is also a 50m pool. Is your community pool a 25 yd and the university a 50m? That can make a difference too. Maybe you just "feel" faster so you go faster! LOL

Re: Sprint/Oly Trainers wk of 4/9
Anything different about the Desoto 2006 and 2007 series? Did they make any improvements? I can get the 2006 tri top for $35, instead of $52. I can get the 2006 shorts for $33 instead of $48. I don't care about the colors (I'm going to get blue on top and black on bottom, though), but I do care about the performance. If nothing has changed, I might as well get last year's while I still can, huh? Saves me $32.

Re: Sprint/Oly Trainers wk of 4/9
I really commend you for being able to do hours on the treadmill or trainer... For many years (actually, even 3 years ago), I refused to do any kind of workouts because I was not gonna run like stupid on that conveyor band or spin like a hamster inside a wheel (and of course, outside was either too hot, or too cold, or too humid, and people would make fun of me). Now I'm past that phase, but I still can't do much indoor. Longest I've run outside is over 4 hours and a half... but on the treadmill, never more than 45 minutes. Same with the bike. The only thing I still do better indoors is the swimming. I know I have to try open waters before my Tri but... I might be running in single-digits temps or bike in the upper 20's, but there's no way I'm swimming if the water isn't at least 65.

Speaking of cold, today I did my longest ride ever, 21 miles, and it was one of the hilliest courses I can find nearby. But it wasn't the hills that killed me, it was the cold and the 20mph wind.

So there are many others here who work from home? I workout so much now that I don't see how I could be doing it if I were still working full-time. Although I trained for my first Marathon while FT, last spring... with long runs starting at 8 or 9 pm... at least it was warmer last year, this year it's hard to run even at high noon.

3 more days and I go on vacation!!! Hope it won't be hard to be away from exercise.

Chris

Re: Sprint/Oly Trainers wk of 4/9
Hi all! Great workouts all around!

I envy those of you who work at home. I work full-time and have a 3 yr old so time is precious. The things I have going for me is a 10 minute commute so I'm not wasting a lot of time on the road and I have some flexibility with the job and am able to get in an hour or so during lunch or at some other time during the day if it starts getting crazy. Still, sleep seems to be the thing that I tend to give up the most and I have to say TIVO is my best friend for those shows I can't miss.

Just got back from a 15M spin in the country. Planning on hitting the pool for 1000 m after work. Meeting the family at the gym since DH is planning on treadmill intervals with DS in the Kid Fit room.
