I recently took about a year off running and am starting to get back into it again. I noticed after a short two miler that my post-run sweat has a distinct chemical like smell to it. I am guessing this probably due to the body flushing toxins out through my my sweat glands. It is more prominent after a few days of not running, which gives a bit of validity to my toxin theory.
Anybody else experience anything similiar?
Depends on what you're smelling. The only one I know for sure is ammonia. "Ammonia is actually a by-product of protein metabolism. When you run hard and long and your body lacks adequate carbohydrates, your body burns protein for fuel. When this is burned, the distinctive ammonia smell presents itself afterward."
