Some of my heart rate data I promised to post

Preface: The highest heart rate I've ever registered on the bike is 205 BPM. I've hit it twice but only for maybe 5 seconds or so each time. (That's 17 beats in 5 seconds)

In this thread ( http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/Forum2/HTML/012772.shtml[/URL" target="_blank"> ), some LT stuff was discussed and I promised to post some of my own HR data. I have no idea what my LT HR is but I think it's rather weird that I can hold my HR a near max for semi-extended periods of time.

Anybody want to comment on why this is?

Here's some data from the past.

04/05/07 - 19 min. @ 190 BPM avg. / max 201 BPM
08/30/2006 13 min. @ 195 BPM avg. / max 204 BPM
10/31/2006 13 min. @ 192 BPM avg. / max 201 BPM
11/7/2006 12 min. @ 190 BPM avg, / max 194 BPM
12/5/2006 9 min @ 198 BPM avg. / max 201 BPM - for this same workout, I held 192 BPM for the full 20 min.
12/26/2006 5 min. @ 199 BPM avg / max 201 BPM - actually quit this workout because it was early in the interval and I was ascared for blowing up my heart.

Tithers has much admiration for PH and his high HR. She thinks he should coach her on the bike.

You're highly trained, which means you've pushed your LT much closer to max than most. On those same lines, since you HAVE been training yourself to be at such a high rate, I bet your body buffers that lactates really fast, allowing you to STAY there longer until you finally exceed it.

I'd just say you're a freak. How's that?

how old are you? I've never heard of sustained values in the high 190's like that, are you sure you are not part hummingbird? Do you crave sweet necters and gravitate toward a warm climate like Atla... wait a minute.

PS--you measure power, did you see an increase in your output when it was supposed to go up, e.g. July? I only measure power on the trainer, but found that I was weak as a kitten by the end of cyclocross season in December, exactly when I was supposed to be strong, indicating some real errors in my training or something.

Hmm, that's pretty old. Do you feel a need to veer off the road when you see a red hanging feeder full of sweet liquids? I'm concerned. Do you winter in Brazil?

On a serious note, those are really interesting heartrates, what do you see as your max? Were those high 190's a sustained hr or the highest numbers before failure?

One thing to keep in mind. This is all relative to your resting HR.

I can't get my max HR past 160. But my resting HR when I am in peak shape is 32.

Also of importance is recovery. One test to do, is to reach your max HR -stop and count for 2 mins. What did it recover to?

A very high Max HR can mean 2 things -your are in fantastic shape, or you are not in shape at all.

Re: Some of my heart rate data I promised to post
where do you start to produce lactate? you have 196-205 for your anaerobic zone, which seems to suggest you are highly trained to do work at lactate threshold or maybe above--when you do these 9 minute intervals, do you fail or does the time just end? I'd love to see the power output at the same time.

Have you been training for years and years? That seems like a very well developed cardio vascular system. How do the values compare when you do a running workout?

Years ago I was vo2 tested on a bike trainer and treadmill within the same week and found the vo2 max #'s and heartrate at failure were higher on the run, but I was also in decent running shape at the time.

I'd also like to see the HR curves, with power on them if possible.

jroden - PH has been around a couple of years and likes to punish himself, so I expect that yes he has a highly developed cardio. He currently sinks like a brick in water, so manages to spend his days running and biking only.

PH - did you ever get your VO2Max tested? I could send you the link to CoachTony who I used down there in Atlanta. Sharpie also has his info, she is who hooked me up with him. Was reasonably priced and seemed very knowledgable. We did the test AND counseling and he answered from followup questions. I plan on getting back down to Atlanta closer to Steelhead so I can see the changes.

Tithers thinks PH should see her color-coded schedule. She still thinks PH should give her bike lessons!

PS-My max HR is supposed to be 213...what's your LT?

You should come to my spin class with me next month when we redo the LT test...should I let you know?

You'll have to pay 10 bucks to get in, but the class itself is free...my "famous" coach runs it.

My bike LT is 167.
