Training with overuse injuries?

In training for my first half marathon, I've been diagnosed with not only runner's knee but also a stress reaction in my hip, both on the same side. I'm trying to maintain my fitness during recovery and have been searching for exercises that would do the job, but it's been difficult finding ones that accomodate both injuries. Recovery also seems to be quite a pain and I was wondering what others have done for relief? I've been told to "take it easy" but living on a huge college campus where I'm CONSTANTLY walking around all day isn't helping much. I've never dealt with anything like this before and it's really frustrating, especially being that it happened before my first race, so if any of you have been in the same boat and/or have any advice/ideas, that would be awesome and much appreaciated!
