hi guys! completely new and looking for the advice of other runners.
i run distance. my days average around 8 miles with a long run once a week of about 13.
been running for years and recently took up eating paleo.
i have found that i LOVE everything about the diet EXCEPT: my runs. hahah, ironic.
anyone else eating paleo and training around the same milage?
I AM LOOKING FOR FUEL SUGGESTIONS BEFORE MY RUNS. something to help me sustain.
my energy levels are great throughout the rest of the day, just my runs are suffering.
i would love to hear any ideas on ENERGY FOODS that would be paleo friendly!
I would say dates might be your best bet.
Blogging about motivation, injury prevention and training lessons I've learned at TeachtoRun.com and working on "The Ultimate 5k Plan" at HowtoRun5k.com.
I recommend the book Paleo Diet for Athletes by Cordain and Friel. They basically explain how to plan your nutrition prior to endurance runs. Foods like fruit (bananas, peaches, melons, berries) with eggs. Stay away from high fiber foods.
Potatoes, yams, sweet potatoes are good options that will not upset your stomach but provide needed carbs for long runs. Eat 2 hours before your run.
