Fitness Habits to Develop while Young

While many see the entrance into their twenties as time toexplore possibilities and learn new things, it’s also an important time tobegin practicing healthy habits that will last a lifetime and prevent diseaselater on.

Strength training is one of the most important health habitsa person can adapt.  Whether itsbodyweight circuit training or lifting weights, this practice is essential foroverall muscle function, improved cardiovascular stamina, and staving off diseasesand body aches as we age.

Another habit to develop is drinking enough water eachday.  Water not only assists the body instaying healthy, but it benefits the mind by improving focus and cognition,which can help those who are currently students in their early or mid-twenties.

Another fitness focus that can be developed during this timeis proper form and execution of different exercises.  Training the muscles to recognize when thebody is in alignment and when it is not will assist a person in any physicalactivity they engage in throughout their life. It will also help keep the body safe from injury and improve fitnesslevels through proper training focus.

Learning how to fuel up and refuel after a workout isanother habit to develop.  Nutritionalhabits are something that should never change – adapting a low-fat, highprotein diet with plenty of complex carbohydrates will keep a person physicallyactive and nutritionally sound during any activities they choose to pursue.

Although this is a good time to develop lifelong habits, itis also a good time to experiment with different types of physical activity toexplore what one personally likes. Cross-training activities, or traveling to distant places for hikingtreks or fitness challenges are opportunities that often don’t presentthemselves later on; we need to take advantage when we can.
