I think carb loading is super important. I noticed in my training runs that I had way better results if I carb loaded for a long run. I had way mor sustained energy for a longer period of time. Also electrolites are very important during a long run. If I did not drink NUUN electrolyte drink during a really long run I would feel weak and delerious towards the end of the run and after the run I would feel sick and have a headache. I think after running the 26.2 I reallized how important salt intake is and will look into that for my next one. When I finished the race I noticed when I looked in a mirror that I had salt crusted all over my face and white salt stains on the shoulders of my shirt.
One last think I learned is to realize that the farther corral back you start the longer you will wait before you run...soo, on a chilly morning if you have a 30 minute wait before you take off you might need to pee. And I ended up running into the woods about 4 or 5 miles into the run. I saw that other runners used trash bags as ponchos and then threw them away before they started running. I think I might give that a try next time as well if its a chilly morning.
