You might also want to take a look at the Desoto 400 mile bike shorts or the Desoto Forza Tri Shorts. Excellent products backed up by an amazing company. I actually prefer tri shorts to bike shorts. I don't know why - I'm just more comfortable in them even for long rides. The fabric on the Forza Tri shorts is amazing.

Everyone talks about the benefit of expensive bike shorts but I only have two pair and they were $19 each. You can buy a cheap pair, espeically if you are going only 10 miles or so and save the more expensive pair for longer rides. My $19 shorts have been fine for me on 2 1/2 hour rides. Would the more expensive ones be more comfortable, sure, but the $19 are fine by me!

How long is a long time? I've been riding year round on Nikes and Louis Garneaus, and after 2+ years the chamois seems to be getting thin and flimsy... Is 2 years about right for that kind of thing to happen?

I guess, if you have a lot of road grime and junk sitting between the saddle and the shorts, they do have a tough life. Couple years of year round riding seems like about right, I wouldn't want to have to live like a pair of bike shorts.

That said, I have not bought my own shorts for a long time, I was suprised at how expensive they are, 100 bucks at minimum for decent bibs, stuff adds up. Running sure is cheaper.
