Re: Friday, April 27 - Rogers Hornsby
Very much a blah day here in New England. Started with rain, continued to rain, and, guess what, it's still raining. Blah.
LRR: Was Rogers related to Bruce, the singer? And wasn't Bruce the guy who was blind? Nice to have company on this rainy morning!
x, Sparty: Good luck this w/e!
Me...
7-8 mile puddle jumper early this AM with a few knuckleheads. Chilly, kind of like the morning of the Boston Marathon minus the wind. Fun to have company when the rain is coming down steady.
Swim after work. I hope!
Rock it to the weekend, Tri-spokers!
Bonus: Speaking of knuckleheads... Yesterday after work I met two other brave soliders for the first open water swim of the season. Water temp was 53 at a depth of about 4 feet. We suited up with all the garb and then tiptoed inch by inch until we submersed. A lot of shrinkage. A lot of shivers. And even more screams. It wasn't too too too too bad until we tried to swim. The water was so cold not one of us could get our breath. So we decided to just splash around, maybe get used to the water a bit. And we did. Until we tried swimming again. Again, no breath, and again, our faces FrOzE. We logged a grand total of, maybe, 10 minutes splashing in the cold water. Think I swam for a total of 30 seconds, maybe 45 on a good day. The good thing was that I remained calm. Couldn't breath. But remained calm. Feeling better about an upcoming open water swim where the water temp is supposedly in the upper 60's. Just hope I can breath.
