NEW INFO: Illinois Vipers 14U/16U Tryouts

The Illinois Vipers are expanding their program for the 2014-15 season, fielding both a 14U and a 16U team.  With core players returning to both teams, we are taking the next step toward building a highly competitive “A” program.  All positions are open to dedicated players wanting a competitive experience.

In its first year, the Vipers 14U played in ASA, NSA, PGF and USSSA "A" tournaments with 2 first place wins, a 2nd place finish at the NSA “A” State Championship and other 3rd, 4th and top 8 finishes. Rich Morford will return to manage the 14U Vipers. Assistant coaches will be announced at a later date. Our corporate sponsor has again graciously agreed to donate to the Viper teams. Neither Coach Morford, assistant coaches nor our sponsor have relatives on the team.

On a regular basis throughout the year, Samantha Baugh, former assistant coach at UIC and Central Michigan University, will instruct catchers and outfield, run specific full team practices, be available for private lessons and consult on college recruiting. Alvie Shepard, a first round draft pick with the Baltimore Orioles out of the University of Nebraska, will be available for private hitting instruction. Defensive specialist Howard Kobata will be here in November for clinics with the teams. Fields in the Alsip/Midlothian IL area for fall/spring/summer use and indoor facilities for winter practice and are in place, including practice time at the Rosemont Dome.

A full schedule of ASA, PGF, NSA and USSSA tournaments are planned for the year: 3 - 4 outdoor tournaments in fall, indoor tournaments December thru February, and each weekend of the summer season, ending with attending a National tournament we have legitimately qualified for. Team fee will be $1200. If parents choose to do any fund raising, all amounts collected will be credited to the families participating. All funds collected by a team will be spent on that team during the year and yes, you will receive periodic financial reports.
