Annoying lap swim last night

What exactally is the proper way to act in a lap swim? Way overcrowded swim last night. I had to share a lane with 8 people, mostly highschool kids. Doesn't the highschool swim team have their own workouts? I know they were on the team cause they were wearing the caps. Anyways, I was in the "medium speed" lane. These two girls were doing sprints while I was doing at least 200 yards at a time. They would come right up on my feet, then pass me right before the wall, cutting me off. Then they would stop at the wall and I would have to move around them. This was happening all night. Then a "couple" (since they were making out in the pool!) took up the corner of the lane almost the whole hour. I overhead the girl saying she could only manage 500 yards so the rest of the hour she hung out in the corner of the lane while her boyfriend would come and go and with 8 people in the lane and the two of them hanging out there most of the time, there was no more space for anyone to take a rest. And to top off my swim, I keep my lap pass in the plastic bag with my workout under my bouy. Someone swiped it. I still had 4 swims left on my pass (at $5.25 a shot I was ******). Mad mojo swim last night!!!

Oh, no- that sux! Is it always crazy like that, or was this abnormal? B/c if it's typical...I'd definately be having a talk with the pool manager, or switching pools (if that's an option.)

What a drag! I went on a Sunday a few weeks ago not even thinking....it was family swim in lanes 1-3 and lanes 4-6 were lessons, so I had to try to do laps with the kiddies and the basketballs and the noodles............UGH

That really does suc. I have only had a swim or two like that and it messes up my entire workout. Normally I just get out of the pool and bag it because I can't follow my planned workout routine anyways.

Hope better swimming for you....

Sorry about the pass. Tell the director or whoever runs the pool and maybe they can help you out.

Wow. I would have bolted after the first 5 minutes, screw the $5.25. I can't tolerate that kind of ****. I would definitely ask the pool director if that was just a fluke or if the local high school will be invading the pool on a regular basis (and why?!).

Kristine: I have had to share the pool with the HS teams as well. Fortunately the coach does a really nice job and puts the team in lanes 1-3 and gives everyone else lanes 4-6. I would definitely talk to the pool director.

Sorry to hear about that. What a drag! Not to hijack, but you might enjoy this story about a similar situation:

I had to use the high school track for some 1/2 mile intervals a few weeks ago. During my workout, the high school boys and girls teams came out for some laps making it really crowded. Then, the middle school girls and boys joined in! After checking with the coaches who said I could continue, I started my second to last one. As I was trying to cut to the outside to go around a group of middle school boys, the last one I had to pass on the outside stopped dead in his tracks and bent over to tie his shoe right where he was. Needless to say, I wasn't able to avoid him and outweighing him by a good 50 lbs, I stayed up and he didn't. Neither one of us were hurt, but it was probably a good lesson in track ettiquette for him. Maybe you should try that next time people get in your way at the pool!

Re: Annoying lap swim last night
Should the lifeguard intervene? If not the swim coach definately should have. And the couple with the one not swimming should not have been in the lap lane at all.

Good news is that the water outside should be warm enough soon to start open water swims. Then you dont have to worry about crowds at all. Which is why I am never at the gym pool in summer. Plus I like the outdoors too much to be inside.
