For those worried about their "non-tri" bikes in a race

I grabbed this pic from xflbk's pic thread and marked it up a little.

Notice the abundance of non-tri bikes.

You missed the black one in the lower left corner. I suppose it could be a road bike since we can't see the front, but the platform pedals and kickstand suggest otherwise.

Too funny. I love the suitcase.

That reminds me, I have no saddle bag... eek!

And I'm guessing that the black one is a Schwinn?

So, for you diehard tri guys, what do y'all think of people who show up with a non-tri bike?

And pray to God you finish ahead of that person...how embarrassing it would be to lose to someone on a trashy old bike (it's happened to me!)

Re: For those worried about their "non-tri" bikes in a race
purple--come on!!! I'm working on replacing her!

Pacer--Tequila isn't as pretty as she used to be, but she's still a respectable looking bike! My son and I are doing TOSRV in a little over a week and I am not ashamed to be seen riding her!

Funniest thing that's ever happened to me... Right before a bike tour I cracked the rear rim on my Terry and I wasn't able to get a replacement. The kids were all trained and ready to go, so my old option was to pull out my Univega. On the tour his guy was hanging with my kids, going on and on about this guy with a sh!t hot bike, how he wanted to get one, etc, etc, etc. At one point I just looked at him and said "It ain't the bike, ya still gotta do the training." So we get to the next rest stop and the guy sees The Bike. Where's the owner of the sh!t hot bike? Oh, he got sagged in. I just looked at the guy and said "It AIN'T the bike!"

The du I did several weeks ago had a kid (probably about 17 years old or so) raced in his BMX. No wonder I placed!!!

I did an off-road tri a few years back and saw a girl riding a bike resembling this, complete with a cage over the back tire like you would deliver newspapers from. By the end of the race, the left side of the cage was smashed in and rubbing on the tire.

I don't think PH would have anything to worry about there.

Re: For those worried about their "non-tri" bikes in a race
1. Thank you for posting the picture. That is a BIG help for me. I have a decrepid MTB that I got at a garage sale for $30 (still, it is a Trek 800) that I've thought wasn't good enough to try a tri on. I've been running for years, I've got my swimming coming along, but just didn't have a bike. I took my MTB to the LBS today and am getting a full tune up. I may even get the skinny road tires. Gimme a month and I'll do my first sprint tri.

Edited to add: Oh, and seeing that someone brings a Schwinn with a kick-stand makes me feel even better.

2. That was a great video.

I've got http://interwovendesign.com/kick/userdisplay.php3?username=txdave1340[/URL" target="_blank"> worth of puddin'. The instructions say "Cook and chill." That's what I do every night, I cook...then I chill. Awwww yeah.
