Friday, May 4 - Four Dead in Ohio

On May 4, 1970, Ohio National Guardsmen opened fire on anti-war protesters at Kent State University, killing four students and wounding nine others.

Sick kid the last couple of nights has meant for some short sleeps and a day home from work. Poor sprout. Hope he's better today.

Out for an easy run with the tapering twosome - The Diesel and Iron Boy. 5.5m @ 8:30 pace on a nice, sunny morning. The Diesel runs the local club's inaugural 5k tomorrow while Iron Boy is off tuning up up. Good get 'em guys!

Stand your ground tri-folk!

Re: Friday, May 4 - Four Dead in Ohio
Thanks for all of your kind replies to my RR and pics! I think this training plan I'm on is the best decision I've made since taking up tris. The thing that makes me say that is, not only are my times improving, but when I think about how I felt during the race. For the first time, I can honestly say that I really enjoyed the run. It still hurt, but it was a different kind of pain than before. The plan makes all the difference.

2500yd swim this morning:
350 warmup,
1800 straight,
350 cooldown.

50 run this afternoon.

Happy Friday and great workouts to all!!

Re: Friday, May 4 - Four Dead in Ohio
Much on the mind today, Tri-poppers, please bare with me...

House Update: House is gone. We are the back up offer. So we move on. Sad. But it's okay. Thanks everyone for your kind words.

DareToStopYou: Better house around the corner Only way I was able to make the offer on that one house -- yes, being behind The Diesel's house -- was becasue I did it while she was out of town.

x: Totally hear you about feeling better and better and enjoying more and more in the late stages of a race when your base is ever improving. Keep up the amazing work!

Otts: Way cute!

RonBo & Jules: Awesome workouts!

Funny Story:
Those of you who know me know I like to come up with fun nicknames for people. I also get hooked on general, if not funny, names and, if the situation is right and the relationship is frothy, use it then. Such is the case with a new name I came across: Tight Buns. As in, when you walk in the room and your very nice friend is there, you might greet them by saying, "What's up, Tight Buns." Multisporter 'georgewalk' knows this well. So does LRR. And now so too does my real estate agent. The agent, a starting-to-show-age woman in her 50's, is friendly and frisky and likes to joke and smile -- that's at least our relationship. In one day I walked to a house we were seeing when I greeted her with, "What's up, Tight Buns!" The agent beamed a goofy grin and couldn't stop smiling the entire time. Fast forward a week, when I was checking out yet another house, and in I come to greet the missus Tight Buns. Before I got a chance to say anything, she came bounding up to me with a desperate smile on her face and said, "What did you call me last week... Sticky something... was it Sticky Buns" I tried not to laugh and said, "What's up Sticky Buns." Off she went, beaming a sugary smile. Sticky Buns. Quite a visual. And she takes it with pride!

New Googles: Swam with new googles this morning. WOW! After going through 3 pairs, each of which leaked so I never used, I finally found a pair. I had been using the same pair since, umm, well... since I had first taught myself to swim back in late 2005. This new pair... WOW. I can see. I can see everything. This scares me a bit because, well, when I hit open water... I don't really want to see. I still have this notion that there are no turtles and big fish in the holes where I swim, and I like it that way!

Me...

4-5 mile run early this AM with LRR and The Diesel. Followed immediately by...

40 lap swim
o WU - bunch o' laps
o 5 x 200 yards w/2 laps active recovery
Hit avg of :51 secs per 50 during the Intervals. 2 second faster than last time, though the last few times I did 7 x 200. Still good.

Rock it toward the weekend, Sticky Tri-Buns!

Re: Friday, May 4 - Four Dead in Ohio
Good workouts guys

Sort of rest day for me today

Im not sure if a Marathon cooking session counts as multisports but as we had a power cut a couple of weeks ago (For 24 hrs) we had to empty the freezer . SO the kids are complaining that they have to eat store bought food .

SO tonight the freezer will be filled

Warm Up -- Ratitouille

Followed by Chicken Curry with a Lamb Curry Brick session

Then a Chilli

and a Cool down (Warm down more like)of
Spicy Mexican Chicken

I find it great in the current climate of store bought pre packed meals that my boys prefer the stuff that I cook myself- I know exactly what is going into the meals and all the meat comes from a local butcher who has his own farms so it is all sourced locally

Have a good Friday guys

Neil

Re: Friday, May 4 - Four Dead in Ohio
Tried to get my first open water swim. Walked into the lake up to my knees, of course it was COLD but I wanted to see if I would adapt. Well, after 60 slow seconds swishing the water around with my legs still hurt a bit and it still felt cold. So, bagged that.

Headed to the local Y praying the schedule would work out (they have a goofy schedule for "lap time") and I got lucky.

300 w/up
5x100 @ t+5 (ended up t-3 oops)
4x100 @ t pace (1:39's)
3x100 @ t -10 (1:29's)
2x50 @ sprint (:39 and :36)
100 c/d

Re: Friday, May 4 - Four Dead in Ohio
Thor, sorry about the house, but congrats on the goggles! I had an easier time finding a house than goggles I like.

LRR, if you think that is a large enough buffer...

Me - Bike commute, then a 4 mile jaunt after getting home. Big weekend planned training-wise, hope the rain stays away. But if it comes, I hope it washes some of this darn pollen away, I am tired of the sneezing.

Speedo Hydroseal. Here's the funny thing: After spending $25 on the exact same pair as my beloved very first pair of googles (Nike something-or-other) and having them leak, spending another $25 on the exact same pair in the event the others I bought were a flub and having them leak, and another $25 on a Tyr mask thingy that covers more of your face but also leaked like a sniffly nose, I went to Marshalls and picked up a long forgotten pair of Speedo Hydroseals for all of $4.99. I'm going back early next week to pick up a stock pile.

It's really weird... having not been able to see much while swimming and, well, getting so used to it that it was ingrained that when you swim you aren't supposed to see -- since after all I'm still new to the whole swimming thing -- I am blown away by being able to make out the clock, the person in the lane next to me, the pattern in the concrete on the bottom of the pool, the fact that the black line down the middle isn't painted but individual tiny black tiles. Yeah, I can see!

OhMyBannon
Hang strong, man. Cinco de Mayo is right around the corner. In fact, last night I kick started it for you. Now, I'm no Corona drinker... it's too watered down... kind of like water with a splash a malt and some underarm sweat, of course with a squeeze of lime if you'd like. But last night, out for dinner, the bartender tells us it's a special Corona night. Couldn't turn down free beer. Warmed 'em up for ya. Kick butt on that 5K!

Re: Friday, May 4 - Four Dead in Ohio
After a week of inconsistancy due to a cold and having "aunt duty", I've managed three solid days of getting my workouts done. Had a nice ride Wednesday which proved to me how weak I am on the bike. A good run yesterday, and today I had a good swim.

Planning a nice weekend of long run and long ride.

So Thor, did you choose Corona because it was on special? I must say I prefer a Negra Modelo or Pacifico if I'm drinking Mexican. Although, when I lived in Miami, after a long day of working in my yard, DH would bring me an ice cold Corona with a lime, and you didn't hear a complaint out of me!

Special?! It was so special it was FREE! Imagine that. So my approach was one of yours:

Great job on the getting back after aunt duty

Re: Friday, May 4 - Four Dead in Ohio
Mmmm....Negro Modelo. Yum!

Me: Well, I had an almost 65 hour workweek this week. Got to go home 2 hours early, but I am too exhausted to run. Nap now. Pizza ....and perhaps Negro Modelo in a couple of hours. Early to bed, then early to rise to go to work again tomorrow. But it's only 4 hours. I'm thinking I may bike to work, but for sure I will run before work. I missed out on 3 or runs this week because of the insane hours. I almost want to run now, more than nap, but only almost.

Neil has the BEST workout report! Yum!

I love my TYR googles b/c they don't leak or fog! All my friends SWEAR by their barracudas, but I never liked them. Ever since I bought the TYR, I swam faster. It's all in the googles.

Otay...BAD SINUS INFECTION....GREAT SWIM!

2100 straight...42:42. About 30 seconds SLOWER than my wetsuit time trial! YAY! That means that swim is going well for me! YAY!
