Sunday, May 6 - Four Minute Mile

On this day in 1954 Roger Bannister became the first athlete to run a mile in less than four minutes, finishing in 3 minutes 59.4 seconds during a track meet in Oxford, England. {nytimes.com}

Though significantly slower, I met the Diesel and Yuell-log and jumped in for 16 of their 22 at 9 minute pace. A nice, though breezy morning, we enjoyed the run and sent positive thoughts toward Iron Boy in New jersey! Go Dog!

Run like the wind tri-folk!

Okay, here we go. Finally made it to race day, and fully rested for once! A little raisin bran to fuel up, then it's go time.

DS (3) slept all night last night for the first time in a week. That has to be a good omen.

100 mile ride for me today. Did the first 85 solo, then linked up with the GF for the last 15. Not as much steady climbing today, but still had 4 climbs that went over 2 miles. Also had two short steep climbs. The first was 15% (as advertised on the warning sign) and climbed up out a small village called coincedentally 'Valley-home' or Talheim in german. There was no sitting for the 1/2 mile or so. It was all I could do to keep going. Then second seemed to be similar.

Felt pretty strong considering the tired legs from the long run yesterday.

Enjoy all, go fast racers!

Good luck Matt!

Jim - very nice ride. Makes me miss the mountains.

Me - Great Western HM. Ran a 1:20:25, which is a PR by 4:30. I also got my first AG win in while. Race report here[/URL" target="_blank">.

Later - 1 hr bike ride, spin out the legs.

Find your speed everyone!

Very windy, but beautiful 17 mile ride for me this morning. It was supposed to be a ride with friends, but they bailed with the wind and cooler temps, so it was solo. Saw a HUGE groundhog and a fox while out on the trail.

Great workouts all you tri-peeps!

Mike, great race!! What a huge PR! It tells A LOT about your training leading up to Boston. Congratulations.

2.5hour ride for me. Still slow as turtle, but getting better! No hip tightness itself is worth a big celebration for me!

Back from the race, finished in 21:02, a 30 second PR for me. Now I'm ready to hop on the bike for an hour or so. All this endurance training has me feeling like anything under an hour is just a warmup!

edit - Jim, Mike, Yoshiko - Great job!!!

Awesome workouts and races today everyone! I feel like a loser posting mine today!lol 7.25 miles in um 40 minutes...on the bike But there was a head wind I swear! It was my first time riding my bike on the roads by myself, so I'm taking baby steps. It's all good.

Also did a couple of hours of yard work. Planted 21 new perennials in my garden, it's going to look purty

First solo road ride is a HUGE step!! That will do more for your training than any amount of stationary biking you could have done today. Don't shortchange yourself, you're on the brink of major improvements now. Congrats and keep us posted!!

22mile ride, z1/2 spinning out the legs. 80-90 min. Through traffic (I was in center of Indianapolis so lots of stop signs/lights until I got into suburbia).
