Re: Monday, May 28 - Memorial Day
Ran all of 1km, then turned around and walked home. I have hurt my knee. (I knew this before I went out, but taped it and ran anyway.) Think it's time to make the trek to the running store that has a podiatrist watch you run and fit you properly. I've been blaming all the niggles on being overweight and out of shape, but I've been that way before and I've never had a running injury until I got these shoes.

Ella - Bummer on the knee, but I'm glad you're determined to figure out the source of the issue and fix it. Niggles? Isn't that the Aussie guy band that specializes in kid shows? (j/k)

JenOtter! Good to hear you're back at it! I bet Bailey the Wonder Dog is ecstatic!

Mike - Great news that it's not strep. Hopefully, getting rid of the insulation will solve the problem. What a bummer that a dedicated trainer ride backfired like this.

Sparty's in for the group IM miles!

Thor, thanks for offering to keep track of the collective miles, but I think the first "collection" will be for you and JKaiser, on June 24th, right? We just have to figure out the plan for when we have two competitors in different IM's on the same day. Do we go for 140.6, or do the double?

OW swim for me followed by a 2 1/2 mile trot. Followed up with some brief ab and hip work doing a quick "happy dance" for the OW swim. (Only my 2nd OW swim, and first in water this cold.) Distance was probably only 800 to 1200 yards, and not nearly as "continuous" as it should be, but I definitely made a nice baby-step or two forward. I'm very psyched to find this little protected beach to start ocean swimming in. I think I should be ready to move up to a real ocean break after a few more times out. Water was cold (probably around 55), but very workable. Even managed to swim through a (very) little bit of seaweed without missing a beat. Still need to do lots of work on sighting, but this will be easier as I get used to some of the landmarks at that beach.

That would be the Wiggles . I have not been running in a brightly coloured skivvy!

Got my new shoes today. The girl had me run on the treadmill in bare feet - they have a video set up so you can see the back of your legs on the tv. Then she got out some shoes for me to try and I ran on the treadmill in each pair. You could see that some of them corrected, some under corrected, some over corrected. My Asics 2110s don't have enough support. (Only have 70kms on them, so that's $200 down the drain ) I've now got Brooks Addiction 7s. Took them for a short run outside to see how they felt and they seem pretty comfy. The best part is that if after a couple of weeks I'm still not happy I can take them back and try something else. Fingers crossed they solve my problems.
