Re: My season and more is over.
Sheldon, if there is any one thing I could impress upon you more it is that everything in life is an opportunity for more. Where one door shuts, another five open. Where someone might see dark and dour colors dropped on canvas, another sees magnificent art so moody and telling of a deeper story. Be open to it, and if you do, you'll see whatever it is your heart desires.

And look... clear evidence of what his heart desires--->

On a separate note, isn't the minimum qualification for "gore" an open wound? Gaping, even?

Seriously, though, that's crazy tough to dislocate your shoulder mid-swim, AND put it back in mid-swim. Mel's character in Lethal Weapon would dream of one day being that tough. (Though, come to think of it, he did dislocate his shoulder underwater in one of the movies... seems like he surfaced before putting it back in though. Probably lost him several seconds transition time in his chase after the bad guys.)

Are you sure this isn't all just a coach-ly ploy to scare us all into doing one-armed drills?

You're going to amaze your docs with your quick recovery... and I'm betting you'll come out on the other side of this closer to your living your real dreams.

Re: My season and more is over.
Sheldon, I've been following and enjoying your racing, training and straight-up advice on this board since I started here a couple of years ago. It's obvious by this thread that a lot of people have great respect and caring for you. You're one of the good guys and it stinks that this has happened to you. I sincerely hope that the surgery, recovery and everything that is swirling around it goes well for you. Try to pick your battles and control what is controllable about this situation. I think your attitude about turning lemons into lemonade in your latest post is going to be the single biggest thing that helps you in all of this. I wish you only the best and hope that despite all that is going on you'll still post and keep us up to date. Even though this is cyberspace folks can still help or even just listen -- sometimes the best help of all.

Re: My season and more is over.
all I can say is get well quick, as everyone else has said always look on the bright side of life in 5 years you will look back and say thanks for dislocating your shoulder.

What is your job that cant be done single handed, I had a senior lecturer at uni who had severe rheumatoid arthritis, her hands were so deformed it was scary but had the best scalpel work I have ever seen

Re: My season and more is over.
Wow, I just read this. I'm sorry to hear about your shoulder Sheldon and I hope you have a speedy recovery and everything works out okay.

Hey, if you want to start coaching full time maybe this is the best thing that could have happened to you (I know that sounds strange).

Re: My season and more is over.
more well wishes & condolences here. Also watch out that the pain doesn't creep in and make you feel negative. I know I don't notice the pain but my attitude gets negative its easier to think if it doesn't hurt so I wish you pain free days!

**** Sheldon. Just got back from a few days vaca and read this. I'm so sorry to hear this. But as others have said, it is what you make of it and if it opens the door to your true calling, many more can benefit. Sending positive thoughts and healing vibes your way.

Re: My season and more is over.
Just saw this today, and I'm sorry to hear of it!

I know that the "can do" attitude and "one door closes another opens" are good things to take with you into the healing process. At the same time, the human feelings can't be shoved away--they too are part of the healing process, and show that you are not a machine but a person... and strong people have strong feelings. I've found during low periods that a journal really is my friend. I write through the angry/scared/depressed stuff. If it's something I don't want others to read, I'll rip up the pages and throw them out. Hey, it's my journal and I can choose what I want to keep. If journal keeping isn't your thing, make sure you have a trusted confidante (could be a friend, minister, counselor, ppl on forums, whoever you feel comfortable with) who will help you vent and then move past the vent.

Praying for you... Hang in!

p.s. I like the coaching idea! You already have helped a lot of ppl complete IMs and such!

Re: My season and more is over.
Sheldon,
I too only just saw this awful news. I haven't been around much in the last 6-9 months, and now to come back to this! I feel awful for you and wish you all the best in your recovery.

I can only reinforce what others have been saying about going for it in coaching. I was never much of a believer in that God closes one door in order to steer you toward another until I lost my job one day out of the blue. I ended up completely changing careers and my life is much better for it. And then there was difficulty having children which steered us to adoption. I wouldn't change any of it - except to have made those decisions sooner.
Give full time coaching a try. Don't waste time. What have you got to lose? Plus we don't want to see what god does to you next if you don't take the cue this time.
All my best
-Joe
