When applying sunscreen...

...don't forget your lower back if you plan to ride aero with a shirt that doesn't cover well. 4hrs later and I have the worst 9" x 1" slice of sunburn I've ever had. Eeeeee-ouch that was a painful lesson.

Ouch! I feel your pain. I was wearing shorts and a top that just met in the middle standing up. When bent over rigging a canoe they miss by a couple of inches! And rigging is a slow process when only one person knows what they're doing. I still have the bizarre tan line left over from that one!

Being a big fan of Tri-tops for training and racing, I am a poster boy for the "half moon" tan, as I call it. I should take a picture with my shirt off and post here. You'd all have a good laugh, as do most of my Tri training buds. Long way to say, stick around in this sport long enough and wear the gear and you too will have a perma half moon. Mine is a remnant from last year. Add on this year and it is a perma-tan half moon. Looks funny. Since it doesn't matter what others think, I say 'whatever', because I can't see it.

Yup. Went out for my epic ride last Sunday and remembered to slather that stuff on thickly. I was just fine. Went out for a much, much shorter 40 mile ride Saturday morning, and even though I was up and out early, the time on the bike plus the run was enough to give me a sports-bra burn line on my back. I started at 6:00 and I stupidly thought it wouldn't really be a factor. It was. I have learned my lesson!
