Nirv-
Hey, same run as me this morning. But my race on Saturday isn't a goal race, just one I decided to jump into earlier this week.
Good luck with your half Sunday. What kind of time are you going for?

8 easy this am 4 on roads - 4 on trail

Can I play "Predict Nirvana's finishing time" Its a little confusing between his 5k and 10k prs - but with a serious taper - I'm thinking 1:24:xx.

Rest day for me as I run my 5k tomorrow. It is one of my goal races for the year as it is basically run in my backyard. Great job on the running so early this morning. Good luck on the races this weekend.

Re: Friday 6/8/07
Got back out there and it didn't suck too much for my first run in 6 days. 25 mph headwinds for the first half, second I was roasting with the wind at my back. 2 little 50m striders because I felt like sludge. Was going easy though...right quad/ITB was a little sore at the end.

4.4 at 7:44 pace. I tried to run on the shoulder when I could so maybe I ran a mile off of the pavement.

It feels great to be back!

Good luck Nirvy. You too Mr. Mailman.

No TM today Mikey? It must be nice and cool there like it is here. Unlike yesterday's major stickiness.

Have fun with Barry Megs. Last night I rocked out on Guitar Hero for about 4 hours...I'm getting good.

Have a great day.

Re: Friday 6/8/07
Easy day, possibly off day for me today. I had planned on a swim at lunchtime but a 1pm meeting may complicate that plan. In any case I had soccer last night and have a 10k race tomorrow in Georgetown, so I'm looking to largely stay off my feet today.

As for tomorrow's race, goals, etc. this is not a goal race. It's more of a benchmark race before I start really getting into serious training next month. Having said that, this will be the first 10k race I have run since returning to competitive running 2.5 years ago, and I certainly don't want to have to post a crappy PR time to my profile.

I don't really know what to expect. On one hand, I just put a great 5k time in my back pocket -- in training no less. That performance dropped my McMillan calculator's 10k projection from 41:30 to 39:03. However, I don't see any way I can run 39 minutes right now. I haven't done enough long runs and I don't think I have the necessary endurance yet. Bottom line, 41-42 minutes sounds about right. I'd be quite pleased with that result.

Also, it looks like thunderstorms are headed our way tomorrow. I'll make the best of it, I just hope the race organizers don't do something lame, like cancel the race and make it a "fun run."

Good runs out there today. Sounds like a lot of people like me, are recharging batteries for tomorrow's races. Good luck!

Re: Friday 6/8/07
Kfuller, good luck and don't put too much pressure on yourself. (I always seem to do that in the hometown races)

Enjoy the rest days everyone and solid comback worjout Alex especially with that wind.

One thing that I forgot about that I'm kind of looking forward to tonight. It's my Mom's birthday Sunday, and to surprise her, my older brother's coming into town from Seattle. It'll be the first time he's been back since January so that'll be cool and we'll probably get out to play a round of golf tomorrow after the race too.

The only downside to it, is that we're taking mom to the Outback and one of the foods on my self-imposed restricted list is steak. I'll have to do the thing that I always give Kelli a hard time about- order chicken at a steak house. That's just wrong... but you can bet I'll be about ready to take on a 96er come October 22nd.

Re: Friday 6/8/07
Hey everyone!

I still feel like I am not quite ready to run yet after the marathon on Sunday. My right foot, in the joint below the ankle is still a bit sore. I don't want to turn it into an injury! So, I am enjoying a few extra days off! I did go to taekwondo last night and felt good during that workout! I am planning on running a few easy miles this weekend and then easing back into my normal running schedule next week!

Good luck to everyone racing this weekend!

Have a great day everyone!

Re: Friday 6/8/07
I joined Nirvana and Mailbox today in running an easy four before my weekend race which is tomorrow. It's my first half marathon race and even though I didn't train for it or set it as a goal race, I'm still really excited. Over 3,000 runners - so that will be fun. I'm aiming for a 8:30-9:00 pace, although Nirvana thinks I should be able to run a 8:20 or faster! Nothing like a little pressure!!!

It's a sounds pretty hilly - here's a description:

All the infamous hills in the first half of the run, and the second half is all flat, down, and pretty fast...
- The first 2 miles are flat and slightly downhill
- Miles 2-5 are pretty challenging and a steady climb-
- Next 2 miles are series of ups and downs
- Last four miles are flat and fast running.
- There is one gradual quarter mile incline before mile 12

I'll try and get some pictures for my race report...look for the Helvetia Half Marathon report sometime tomorrow night!

Re: Friday 6/8/07
Good luck to our weekend racers!!!

Looks like some good running going on today!

As for me... I am dead tired about right now. I didn't sleep well last night. Couldn't fall asleep, then woke up with my leg really hurting. Did discover that in the middle of the night, a frozen juice box works quite well for icing an injury...

Due to the weather, I decided to go for my swim in the late morning. Lake is still cold, so I opted to wear tights and long sleeve UA shirt. I'm certain it gave the life guards a good laugh, but considering there was basically noone else there, at least it gave them something to do! 45min open water swim. Still pretty windy, giving me a good workout. Yesterday I had to cap the swim at 20min due to the cold, today I was able to double that, so the goofy get up did work!

Still more laundry to do.........

Nice workout all.

Mom - 45 min is open water, that is pretty good. Nice workout.

Addy & Melissa - Still waiting for those race reports from the RNR last weekend.

Happy running all.
