Thursday July 5th

Dang I feel so lonely once again...back to an empty house. Lots of great food leftovers though...

Will be heading out for my run after a few more hours of sleep. Stayed up until 4 this morn' talking with Jack about life....I miss him already and he left like 7 minutes ago. Now it's time to get in a groove and get some good endurance training for August 11th.

Have a great day and don't work too hard...

Good morning all.

I got a run in yesterday afternoon of 6 miles and this morning we did a 6 mile trail run. It was cool to get on a trail and run. I have been able to run trail since I moved to AL.

Happy running all.

Not sure if I will run today. So for now it is a rest day unless I feel the need to go out later tonight.

Alex--have fun with the endurance training.

Dave--Nice run this morning.

Have a great day everyone.

Re: Thursday July 5th
Last 5k of the Locker Challenge this year for me yesterday. I didn't go quite as fast as I wanted to, but it was my best time for this year. I decided not to use my GPS, and that probably hurt me. I came in the first mile in 5:40 because I was trying to stay with the main pack through that first mile. I held it together ok from there and ended up with an 18:51, but I bet I would've been closer to 18:40 with a smarter 1st mile. I got a little lucky with the age group awards. I kind of knew two other runners there who beat me that I remembered as being my age in high school, so I figured I was out of the running there. Turns out they both turned 25 last month, so I ended up second AG, about 15th overall I think out of 240.
Dad ran his best time by about 40 seconds and Kreg ran about what he has been running.
The age group points put me back in the lead for now, but Dad has one more race left. If he runs 30 seconds faster next race, or places in his age group, I'll end up 2nd overall for the second straight year.

Tonight, six on the schedule, but I might go a little more since I'm feeling pretty good and finishing early will just mean I get to spend more time shovelling dirt.

Nice runs today everyone.

Good morning everyone!

Rest day for me today...hope you all enjoyed the extra day off yesterday

tonya921 try adding "Paul Oakenfold" to the mix, that and Junkie XL have been pushing me along recently. There is some Digweed & some Sasha that work for me too, but Oakenfold & Junkie XL push me the best.

I might run tomorrow, haven't decided yet. My Mom will be here in 2.5 hours!!! She's already requested I take her to the lakefront for a walk on Saturday while I run, she's the best.

Have a great day gang.

Re: Thursday July 5th
Morning all,

Back to work after the midweek holiday. I like it so much better when the 4th falls around a weekend. Oh well.

I'm hoping to get in a 7 miler today, but the weather may have something to say about that. Skies look very threatening right now with severe thunderstorms in the forecast for some point today. Rain doesn't stop me but lightning does. Anyway, I may need to come up with a Plan B workout just in case.

Tonya - "Galvanize" from Chemical Brothers is one of my power songs. Always gets me going.

Have a great Thursday. Weekend will be here before you know it...which means so will my first Saturday Long Run.

Happy Post 4th reality check!

Alex - Sorry about you're friend leaving.

Dave - Nice going afternoon and a.m. I've never run a trail before. I'll have to try one.

fuller - enjoy the rest.

Mailbox - Great running for you and your dad.

Flobear - enjoy the rest. Adding more bands I don't know to the mix! More for me to check out.

7 easy miles for me today. Legs are still a little heavy. Still, in the scheme of things, it's nice to be able to crank out 7-8 when I'm tired.

3 recovery miles for me over lunch. Doing some hard intervals tonight. Uh oh.

And for those looking for some obscure running music, check out the local Chicago band, Lucky Boys Confusion

Wanted to incorporate hills into my longer run today, but I only did 2 repeats because I knew I still had like 6 miles to go once I was done with them and I ddin't have water with me. I really loaded up before I went and actually had a stomachache from my binge-drinking. About 24oz of water and a little Gatorade before I left. 2 x 0.25 hill repeates without stopping in 1:55, jog dwon, and then 1:39 and on with the rest of the run. I wanted to make this a progressive run towards the end and threw in little surges...sort of like striders except slower and I stayed at that pace then. The last 2 miles into 10-15mph headwinds and I was definitely running my hardest here. I was definitely hungry before I left and I ate so much pain there. I worked on getting my quad lift a bit higher for longer stride and could definitely feel the burn there. Everytime I felt like tuning it down a bit I thought of the race...that will definitely be a good motivator.

8.5 in 1:04:02 for 7:32 pace with the first 3 or 4 miles in high 7s and the last 3 quite a bit faster. I'm guessing my exertion level against the wind would have easily been in the high 6s.

Sorry for the length folks.

Have a nice day.
<HR>

I see you running a lot of fast runs these days. Be careful with overworking yourself. Throw a recovery run or two in there every once in a while

Re: Thursday July 5th
Hello all

Catching up on the reports....

Alex, RFF that was the best!!! Almost felt like someone was going to yell ""LLLLLLeeetts get ready to rumble!!!!" Great race.

4boys - sorry to hear about the coach. I think sometimes we forget how fragile life is and how easy things can change. How's the mom?

Vash- Yea maybe I will go for best out of 3,however I need to do some handicapping before I place my bet.

Tonya - never thought to use coldplay for the long run. Good choice.

For me today... (feels like a Monday) I have a scheduled 3.5 run and strength. Didn't get butt out of bed in time, so I will be squeezing it on way home from work. Daughter's travel soccer starts this week, so I will be on the road a lot in evenings.

Everyone else enjoy and stay healthy!!

Re: Thursday July 5th
Long (and slow) run for me today. I think it was 11 miles, but I was checking out a new trail and managed to get lost, (yes... I am perennially getting lost) which added a mile and a half or so. It's an urban trail that goes through a trendy new neighborhood and I missed the turn off on the way back and ended up on this nice, new asphalt trail... that sure didn't look like where I'd been coming from. When it dead-ended, I figured I should go back and thankfully, it didn't take me too long to find the trail again.

Drizzled for the first 4-5 miles, then got HOT. Still, did the whole in 2:21, and it felt pretty good.

I did a 5k yesterday, and it's slowly becoming apparent that I am much more suited for long, slow runs. (I did knock 4 min off my PR with a 29:09, but it wasn't as much fun)

And I think I need a mango-pineapple smoothie now.

I could not sleep this morning, so when I looked at the clock and saw 3:45am I decided to get up and go for my run this morning.

Legs were dead after the VO2max effort yesterday, and the personal course record on Tuesday on the river trail.

Glad I did it this morning though. It is 25 degrees warmer now and much more humid.
