Sunday July 22

So, How is it that it only pours (rain) on my long days? Got up a little later than I typically do for my long and an slowly drinking my coffee and slowly getting ready to get out there. Crazy night's sleep with multiple weird dreams.

I'll check in later after the run.

Re: Sunday July 22
Well Dan...you and I know perfectly well why it rains on your long runs...because if you're outside long enough in the beautiful Pacific Northwest - you'll likely get wet!

Ironically, I ran 10 miles today with just overcast skies at a 9:25 pace today.

Schedule for next week:
Monday: Pool and Weights
Tuesday: 1 mi warm-up, 2x1200 (2:00 ri), 4x800 (2:00 ri), 1 mi cool-down
Wednesday: Pool and Weights
Thursday: 5 miles at Marathon Pace (9:00)
Friday: Rest
Saturday: 15 miles @ 9:45
Sunday: Rest

Hey Brian --

I read your profile, and I gotta say, your weight loss is truly inspiring. I'll bet your life has changed in ways you'd never imagined. Congratulations!

I see we're "sorta" near each other -- I live in Boise. And looks like we'll be hitting the marathon trail about the same time on October 7th. I see you're running Portland. I'm running Chicago with my neighbor. Best of luck with your goal. I've only done one marathon, ten years ago in L.A. Made my sub-4-hour goal by a grand total of 39 seconds.

Run this morning got started too late. By 8:45 a.m. it was already 76 degrees. 8 miles later, it was over 80. Yuck. Finished in 1:00:50, a pace of about 7:36. I gotta be happy with that, given the heat. 16 miles tomorrow, 8:00 to 8:15 pace.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend, all.

Re: Sunday July 22
vashondan, I'd give anything to be where you are right now.
I LOVE rain. Basically I love any forecast other than a sunny
one. Don't ask me why; I think I just like the abnormal.

Well, I'm FINALLY up and around after my long day
yesterday. I only had a couple beers, but I was up until 3:30 last
night, making my day yesterday about a 22 hour day, and that
was after getting only 4 hours sleep the night before. I'm ready
to run today, though, and I'm about to head that way here in a
bit.

I'm in my hometown, Amarillo, Texas, until Wednesday so
I'll be running outside. The terrain is 98% flat, and today the
weather is cloudy, breezy, and 85 with 50% humidity. Should
be kind of nice compared to the 90+ degree humid air we've been
having in Omaha.

I'm scheduled for 12 miles, but I'm feeling better than that,
so more on the results later...

Re: Sunday July 22
I love running in the rain!!! However, rain for about 24m of my last marathon was my downfall. I got the worst blisters and sand in my sock rubbed my achilles raw.

Could not get it in gear this morning. Got up early and went grocery shopping then made the mistake of sitting down... Finally got out for a ride. I'm so sick of my usual route I decided to just hit the bike path. Good thing that I waited because I had forgotten there was a tri this morning! This was just a basic fun ride. Getting out there and riding because, well, it was a beautiful sunny Sunday and I didn't know what else to do...

25m, 1:41, 14.7mph

Got home, grabbed a quick bite, changed and headed to the beach. Sunday's are NOT a good day for a swim. Boats had the water all stirred up. For the life of me, I couldn't swim straight. Almost bagged the swim at 10mins. Then the stubborn part of me figured I'd fight it out and finish it. 30min.

I'm thinking I'm about ready for a nap!

Re: Sunday July 22
No running for me today. Not sure what type of run I will get in tomorrow. Going to take my brother to a 10k race on Tuesday that starts at 6 a.m. I guess I am going to be his cheering section for the race. Then we can wait around to see the finish of the Marathon. On the 10k they are having a high school competition, which will be Utah athletes vs. USA High School runners. Should be interesting as there are some fas runners signed up. Looking forward to my next race in September and hoping to be ready to run fast. It is a down hill course, so it should be fast fun. Have a great day and keep up the great running.

Re: Sunday July 22
Well, I guess I felt a bit like overachieving today
or something because I didn't run my scheduled 12 miles,
no. I ran 20. With a 1 minute pause after 12.6 miles, to get
a drink, stretch my hamstrings a little, and redo my ponytail,
I headed off again for another 17.4 miles. I finished in just
under 2:40, and boy am I feeling it now. My legs are sore!

So I guess it went pretty well vashondan, thanks for your support!

Mom Your sense of energy sounds about like mine!
It's go go go all the time! I just can't imagine how you do it
with four boys on top of your daily schedule...Way to go!

Re: Sunday July 22
Dan--actually, no I didn't get my nap... I had just layed down when my mom called. Update on Grandpa--broke his hip on Friday and they were able to do surgery today. Because of his heart issues (needs pacemaker but isn't strong enough for surgery) noone really expected him to survive hip surgery, but he did. Update on mom--no good news on the cancer. So, by the time I got off the phone I wasn't able to nap...

I am training for a tri. Not sure which one. Had planned on waiting until next June (either Wendy's or Flag City multi-sport). However, there's one in September that I'm considering.

Re: Sunday July 22
Hello all, just resurfacing after a hectic vacation week. And now as my reward I get to go back to work tomorrow -- early, no less, for an all day meeting which precludes any chance for a midday run.

As Apple predicted I didn't get a whole lot of miles logged, basically a short run last Monday, indoor soccer Tuesday and that was it until my big soccer tournament over the weekend. In between it was a painting project which grew into some additional electrical work. Now the week is gone and we're still not done, which means we'll just have to peck away at it on weeknights when we can. We'll get there eventually.

We did get away for one night, up to Philly for the Police concert. Definitely worth the trip even at $65 a ticket.

As for the soccer tournament, I entered my main team, Capitol Crew in the Columbia Classic (www.columbiasoccer.com) and we ended up doing pretty well. We finished second in our group and moved on to the quarterfinals before being eliminated. Obvously we would love to have gone further but that's the best result we've had since we started going there, and something to build on as we head into fall league play -- should be a real confidence builder. The three off days I ended up having during the week actually seemed to help a bit, almost like a little taper, on Saturday as I had lots of energy and speed to burn. But in today's matches it caught up to me a bit and I was pretty tired.

Anyway, it's now back to normal life, or at least a normal running schedule, I think. Easy run tomorrow, probably about 8 or so.

Hope everyone's had a good week. I'll have to catch up on everyone's stories later. Right now, I'm exhausted.

I'm sure it was awesome. The Police are great, much better than Sting
alone, in my opinion. Do you listen to 80's rock?

Re: Sunday July 22
Some good activity out there today. I'll add my five miles pushing the baby at noon by the beach to the mix. Average pace around 9:30.

Tomorrow is 12 weeks to Baystate. If I hadn't broken my foot in Feburary, I'd already be four weeks into training for the full, but instead I'll be training for the half. 's ok. It gives me a chance to get faster.
