Monday July 30th

Good morning everyone.

Hot humid sticky run this morning. I would have much rather have it raining, 75 degrees and 91% humidity. I put in 9 miles with 10 X 100m striders in 1:09:48; which averaged out to a 7:45 pace.

I am starting to have slight pain on the inside of the upper shin. Hopefully it was just from my loss of form on Saturdays run and nothing to serious.

Happy running all.

Re: Monday July 30th
Be careful Dave! You don't want that turning into PF (that's how mine always starts, with my shins hurting).

First day of the running club....and already ran 5.3 this morning. I'm hoping the 11:30 run has a better turnout than the 5:30 run did, but man was it beautiful out there! 65, low humidity (wow, it's actually 76% humidity, didn't feel like it!)

I really need to make it a habit to run early, so much nicer out there.

I'll report back this afternoon. Have a great day!

Re: Monday July 30th
Nice run Dave. I had something similar last week in my shin, but almost all the way up to my knee. I just iced it 2 days and it went away completely- hopefully the same will fgo for you.

Decent weekend for me. My 14 on Friday was pretty bad from the start jsut because I had to get out there at 1:00Pm so it was nice and humid, but I ended ok, around 7:55 pace or so.
Saturday was an easy run with my Dad.

For Sunday's run, I didn't wake up nearly as early as I wanted to so it got a bit warm by the end, but that didn't really bug me. Got 21 in about the pace I wanted to 8:22.
Another easy run today and tomorrow. I made the mistake of looking at today and tomorrow on the schedule and thinking that Pfitz was taking it easy on me this week. Not quite....

Have good runs today everyone.

Re: Monday July 30th
Dave--be careful!!! That's how this blasted claf strain started...

I was feeling pretty beat up this morning. I was so hoping my coach didn't have my schedule posted so I'd have a legitimate reason to go back to bed. I wasn't so lucky... 30-40min easy run. Figured I'd get out there and see what I could do. Actually, once I got out there and got moving, I felt pretty good! Did my 'short 4' route, and hit the lap button, but never really looked at the data.

3.8m, 35:40, 9:01pace
8:42 (.9m), 9:07, 9:22, 8:27(.9m)

Not bad. Not bad at all!!!

I did email my doctor, but haven't heard back from him. I suspect I'll be in to see him this week. This light headedness thing is pretty scary. This morning as long as I was in z2 I was fine. As soon as I inched towards z3, I would start to get light headed.

Re: Monday July 30th
Dave- what they all said. Just be aware

flobear- looking forward to how it goes. I tried to meet with a running group this past weekend and it, well, failed (no one else was there!) Running with a group is lots of fun

Mailbox- some awesome runs lately!

4boysmom- you be careful too!!!

No running for me today (since it's my crosstraining day) but I did get msyefl to finally run yesterday evening after being let down that no one else was there for the group run. Did the majority of the 1/2 marathon loop that I've raced the last 2 years. The run almost completely takes place on the coast, with some awesome views

have good ones all!

Re: Monday July 30th
I hate to post on here because when you miss a day posting its like you missed a church service.

In my quest for a sub 20 5k (My best was 20:17 on 33 miles per week average since January) I decided to get serious and aim for 50 miles for 4 straight weeks.

Well week one is over and I hit 50 miles although it is very difficult to run all those dagblanged miles in one week. Yesterday I was feeling under the weather (same thing happened in my previous 50 mile week - this is the 2nd in my life)...seems too many miles takes its toll on your body.

Anyway I fit 5 miles on the treadmill last night so I knew I would have to wake up early and hit the streets this morning to get miles in. 50 may be too much this week but I set the alarm for 5:30 anyhow.

Well I woke at 4:30 and decided to try to run. Sore throat but I am serious about sub 20 so out I went. I ran 7 miles in about 58 minutes. I didnt want to go too fast so I imagined I was running a marathon. Miles averaged about 8:15 towards the middle of my run. I felt very strong around mile 4. I am at 150 miles for the month and should break my monthly record of 152 tomorrow if not this afternoon.

Dave watch the pace. Under 8 minutes is fast unless you are a fast runner. Sorry I don't know your race speeds.

Flo good job...doubles will increase your miles and fitness quickly.

mailbox...I was starting to tire after 7 today and thought 10 miles would be hard. Its all relative I guess....ho hum 21-22 mile run for you...Good running.

4boysmom...health is more important than anything. Good pace. I hope you feel better soon and they help cure what ails you.

Re: Monday July 30th
Well last week was family vacation - great fun
3 days camping
2 days at WI Dells
1 day at Milwaukee Zoo
1 wedding - Lake Geneva

Training disaster - Dehydration - Bad Eating - Booze - I missed my 1st day of running in 150 days. Ran 50% of pervious weeks mileage and 60% of scheduled - Missed 2 qiality workouts and gained 8 pounds. It will take 2 weeks to recover - so 3 weeks total lost.

Ok I have complained enough about the past - now lets starting working on the future

10 easy miles this am

Good running to all -

Re: Monday July 30th
Thursday and Friday of last week I considered myself "injured," and took off. I felt horrible - tired, sick, sore, on the brink of serious injury, you name it, I felt it. Truly the lowest point in all of my time training. Ever. But I think overall, I was feeling "OVERTRAINED." Last year at this time I was running 40-50 mpw, so I think trying 60-70 mpw this year is sort of a bad idea. So I'm cutting back.

I DID run 16.5 miles in 90% humidity on Saturday, but my "17 w/13 @ MP" quickly changed to "LSD."

Sunday was 6 easy.

Today will just be 4 easy.

I don't want to put my BQ attempt in jeopardy, but I think it's more important to stay healthy and uninjured. There will still be hard weeks of training ahead, but if I start to feel even remotely like I did last week, I'll shut it down - for the season if I have to.

Re: Monday July 30th
Sounds like some typical up and downs for a Monday morning.

I'm in a bit of a down mode myself. I'm still in a bad mood about yesterday's soccer game. Simply put we got our ***** kicked. Worse, I got beaten by a speedy forward on a footrace to a ball, the kind I always win. Well, he blew right by me and went straight to goal and scored. That never happens to me. I'm not taking it well.

Most likely I will take out my frustration on some hills this evening. Then I can put this behind me and focus on my 5k race Thursday night.

Hopefully I'll be in a better mood tomorrow.

Re: Monday July 30th
Hey y'all,

A nice, hot, 4 mile run today. I ran on a part of the cross county trail that I hadn't run on before, so that was fun. At one point a doe ran out from the bushes and across the trail in front of me and then off to the right into another green area.

Another busy day for me, as I'm between jobs right now. Gotta head to job number 2 in about 40 minutes. Time for lunch!

Hope y'all have a good day and good workouts!

Re: Monday July 30th
So, I ran the Lifeline 1/2 in Columbus on Saturday. All I can say is......PATHETIC. I'm not really sure what happened. I was trying for 1:30 which I thought I was in shape for. Ended up w/ 1:37:28. It was warm and very humid, there were a few hills that I didn't expect, or maybe I was a little bit tired because I didn't taper at all. Who knows.

I am a little discouraged about what this says for my 3:10 BQ attempt in October, but there is really no time for that. I'm just going to put it behind me and trust the training schedule.

Oh, today was 5 recovery miles at 8:20 pace.

Re: Monday July 30th
Hi everyone. I'm posting from work...

It's ok though. I'm pretty sure my boss is ok with
us working on the internet, especially since everyone
in the office plays games when we're in downtime.

I plan to do an hour on the elliptical machine tonight,
and then go out for about an 8 mile run. If you read back
on this last week, my activity was pretty abundant, and
I think (like Nirvana) that I'm overtraining.

My big toe on my left foot is killing me. It is extremely sore,
particularly on the outer portion of my foot, and especially
hurts when I walk without shoes. I don't know what that
could be. I have never had anything like that before.

Well, great runs to you all. Sounds like everyone is having
a typical Monday out there...
