Wednesday 10.03.07

My race report is on yesterday's 2nd page in case you wanted to read that.

Tonight's practice is just gonna be easy jogging around, recovering from our race. Hopefully the weather is decent for once...

Re: Wednesday 10.03.07
I am going to try to get some cross training in today. Enjoy the running and such everyone.

Apple--I have to root for the Rockies, but it is going to be a great series.

Re: Wednesday 10.03.07
Alex--Great race!!! Sorry to hear about your friend! Was she wearing a helmet?

Just a swim for me this morning. 45min endurance swim. Meaning I swam back and forth, back and forth, back and forth for 45mins. If there is anything more boring than 45mins on a dreadmill, then it has to be 45mins swimming back and forth, back and forth, back and forth in the fish bowl...

And I didn't even get to run afterwards. Kinda weird leaving the gym so early! We should actually be able to start school at 9am this morning! But, I would have much rather gone for a run...

OMG Alex...I'm sorry!

Ellen, LOVE the picture...if I ever get married I want a beach wedding!

Apple, I second that, let's go Phillies! (I love Aaron Rowand & Tadihito Iguchi....is Freddie Garcia going to play or was he sent down?) Can you tell I'm a White Sox fan?

Anyway...bike commute this morning, was a little chilly (58 degrees while I was just in a t-shirt) but a good ride. I'm thinking of just biking today, I've been so over worked at work and not getting any REM sleep so I'm wicked tired...we'll see though.

Re: Wednesday 10.03.07
Hey everyone,

Two posts in two days...it's a legit comeback!

Alex Real sorry
Apple enjoy the game - what a story that is! Go Phillies!
Ellen great pic! I'm in the middle of figuring out what to do for my 10 year anniversary coming up in 6 months...Alaskan cruise maybe?

Got back from the gym...light weights workout and an easy three miles on the treadmill. Tomorrow 7 miles, and my last 20 miler before the marathon on Saturday.

Have good runs out there!

Re: Wednesday 10.03.07
Alex- I am so so sorry. What a horrible accident to have happened.

Ellen- Congratulations Great photo!

Well, I've been doing a very paltry amount of miles lately, letting my calf feel normal from the long training run the weekend before last. I did 6 miles monday, and might do a few or crosstrain today. Tomorrow will be 11 (my boyfriend wants to try his hand at double digits for the first time!) and that'll be my last longish run until October 13th when I do that whole 50 mile thing. I'm starting to freak out, but hopefully it'll all go well...

Have good ones!

Re: Wednesday 10.03.07
I have been busy with work and haven't had a chance to run in 2 days. Oh well. I've been on my feet for 8+ hours each day in a warehouse, so I'm counting that for my training......

Back in the office today, and I hope to leverage my 2 extra long days into an extended lunch this afternoon

It's still going to be a busy week. Stressful too. This can be good for the marathon because it takes my mind off it (and the projected high temperature of 83 FREAKING DEGREES), but also bad. The last thing I need during taper week is to get all stressed out over work!

Re: Wednesday 10.03.07
Alex - Loved your race report, but I'm so sorry about the girls. I hope
Laura is doing okay.

Apple - You remind me of my mom with your dedication to your
baseball. My mom was an OUTRAGEOUS Texas Rangers fan.
She scored the games every night on TV.

mom - Man oh man do I know that feeling. I hate leaving the
gym unless I have my entire workout done. It just doesn't
FEEL right. Oh well, it's just a day, right?

Ellen - AWESOME picture. That's so cute!! Where is that
picture taken?

Flobear - You aren't getting any sleep and you're still that
lively? haha!

Brian - Are you excited about Portland? And is this your first
marathon? (I'm trying to remember--I don't think it is)

Addygrl - Good to hear from you! Glad you're keeping up the
running!

Me - Yesterday I was able to get to the gym and do my usual
workout--the elliptical and a run. It felt great. I also talked to
2 very good friends while I was there, so it was a nice visit
to the gym.

Report for yesterday:
elliptical - 66 minutes, 13.12 miles
running - 65 minutes, 8.23 miles, 7:53 pace

We'll see what happens today. My dad has a full schedule
for us, so I may not get to run until much later today.

Everyone have good ones!

(Nirvana-how are you doing?)

Re: Wednesday 10.03.07
Alex -- How awful. I'm so very sorry.

Everyone -- I could use some input. The forecast for Chicago is for a record high of 86. If that holds, it probably means high 60's at the gun, mid-70's at the finish. I've little doubt that will affect my performance substantially. When I first registered for Chicago, those many months ago, it was all about the experience. Now, as my training has progressed, I'm more focused on performance. I'm a serious type-A, and a bad time would unquestionably ruin the trip.

I've got a chance -- an outside one, mind you -- at a BQ, something I never thought I could possibly do. There's a marathon -- the "City of Trees Marathon" -- practically outside my front door this Sunday, the same day as Chicago. It's a small-town one, about 800 participants, and it's USATF sanctioned. Weather is supposed to be ideal. I'm seriously thinking about running that one instead. I'd lose my Chicago registration fee and prepaid hotel, but that doesn't bother me much. Plus, I wouldn't have to travel.

What would YOU do? Appreciate the comments.

Re: Wednesday 10.03.07
Gosh high school is a weird time. Highs and lows, all together. Very sorry about your friends, Alex.

Ellen - All my best on your anniversary!

Addy - If I don't get a chance, let me say it now: Good luck on your 50 miler!

Chances - I would go to Chicago. Follow through has never been my best thing. I have to practice it. But that's just me. I'd hate to lose the airfaire and hotel that's already paid. Given all that, I might bag Chicago for a local race if I thought I had a good chance at BQ and I had to have the good weather. For an outside chance, I'm headed for Chicago, to enjoy myself in a big race and if I BQ in the relative heat, so much the better.

Cheers,
Billy

edit Oh yeah. I ran today too. I did 9 miles in the "hills." I think I went out too fast but I got it done. I was thinking of 4boysmom's quote as I got up. But, like any self-respecting suburbanite, I hit the snooze button and then got a few minute later, wishing I had set the original alarm for 20 minutes earlier.
