Friday 10/5

Hey, I haven't been first for a while.

Seven miles on the treadmill at a 9:02 pace. Kids are sleeping in this morning - I'm pulling him from school for a field trip to the ag fair.

Have good ones, all.

Re: Friday 10/5
Good morning, everyone. And congratulations, Ellen, on pole position this a.m.

No run, no nothing for me today -- except a pile of work at the office. Supposed to be carb loading and resting, but we'll see. My son's been ill the last few days, and I -- who never gets sick -- can feel the beginnings of a sore throat coming on.

No, no, no.

No.

Stay safe chances, I'd start medicating for it now if you can. Either that or work on being as sanitary as you can from now until the race.

Nice run ellen.

Doing our relay today from a town about 25-30 miles away by having each person do a half mile leg with the football before handing it off to the next person. I'm guessing with our team numbers that we won't get to go too much more than 2 times. More of a social outing than anything, but I'm always excited for it.

Re: Friday 10/5
good morning all -

kfuller - no I haven't been sulking in a corner, but am bummed about the phils. I do have to say it has been a fun year and if this is it, we had a lot of fun. Jamie is pitching Sat., so who knows!!

Nirvy - looks like EQNX syndrome is focused on you... hope you feel better and sometimes when we think it will be worst race, you BQ. looking forward to hearing how you make out.

Still running at night and probably will hit the road about 8 pm. plan on running 4, however I feel like I could do more. we'll see.

Chances... oooohhhhh my.... taper mode is so hard. seems like everyone is catching something. My hubby has a cold and I refuse to go near him.

Alex - enjoy the relay.

ellen - glad to hear you got some extra "me" time with kids sleeping in.

Re: Friday 10/5
Sickness is not worse today, although my nose is completely congested and I've become a dreaded mouth breather for the day.

Taking it easy today, hopefully. If I have to adjust my time goals and focus on the 50 mile attempt instead, I may do that.

Re: Friday 10/5
Easy 8 last night. Looking forward to tomorrow. My old high school is holding a CC meet in the morning, and Dad asked me to help out in the finishers shoot. Not quite the same as racing again, but I love the atmosphere of just being there.
(Can you tell I'm a little jealous of Alex?)
Chances- I'm not sure about starting to take medicine right now. MY thought has always been that the syptoms of a cold that we notice like a running nose are usually the body's natural response in fighting the cold off, and most medications don't try to heal you by attacking the source of the cold, but by stopping the syptoms. This would lengthen the duration of the sickness if anything because it's preventing the body from fighting the cold. Of course if the syptoms are keeping you from getting a good night's sleep, my response might be different.
To be honest- my opinions on this aren't grounded in any kind of research or scientific knowledge, just my own warped logic. FWIW I can only remember being sick once in the last 15 years or so, so either my immune system is pretty good, or I'm on to something.

Hope everyone can get over what they've got before their target races. I know I'm going to avoid sniffling kids like the plague for the next 2 weeks.

Re: Friday 10/5
Good morning everyone. No running for me today. Looks like I will be running in the rain/snow tomorrow morning though.

Apple--I would agree that it has been a fun year. If the Rockies were the ones down I would be satisfied with their effort in Mondays game against the padres. Everyone that lost yesterday got beat pretty good. Must have been something in the air at the ball parks. Have a great day.

Alex--Enjoy the relay.

Have a great day everyone.

Re: Friday 10/5
Morning all!

Ellen--have a great field trip! He'll get more out of it than he would sitting in a class room all day.

Chances--ORANGE JUICE!!! Drink it by the gallon!

Alex--sounds like a lot of fun.

As for me, another swim this morning. I hate the pool. I hate it that when I sweat, I smell like the pool. But, alas, if I want to come out kickin' for spring tris, I gotta put in time in the fish bowl... This morning was a steady 55min. Back and forth, back and forth, back and forth...

Afterwards, I was rewarded with a RUN! Just a steady run, but quite enjoyable. It rained while I was swimming, so it was quite humid. Pretty unremarkable run. Except, in my last half mile, I looked up and there was the most beautiful rainbow. I don't know where it came from, since conditions weren't right. Maybe God was trying to tell me that things are going to workout afterall?

5m, 45:05, 8:56pace. Splits of 22:31and 22:33, so quite the steady run if I don't say so myself!

Good morning! Bike commute this morning, after a good nights sleep, it was great. I was totally in the zone this morning, love it!

I think that most people are getting sick right now...it's this crazy weather...85+ degrees in Chicago today, really? In October? At least I'll have a nice ride down to the start line on Sunday...I'll be as helpful as possible to all of you running the marathon...be on the lookout!

Enjoy your resting today, or your runs

Re: Friday 10/5
Hmm...do I need to need to put a mask on or something before posting here?

I've stayed healthy so far (knocking on wood as I type).

Taking it all the way down now, in anticipation of Sunday's big race. Last night I ended up doing a very easy 5.25 and today it will be about 3 with some some strides. Then tomorrow, nothing more than a light walk and some stretching just to keep things loose.

Dave - Meeting you would definitely be cool. So would running together, that is, if I can keep up with you. I'm shooting to break 70, would be ecstatic if I broke 68. Anyway, my bib number is 1955 and I'll be wearing all red (as I always do for big races) with a red UA headband and Nike flats. Check my profile photo. I'm planning to ride Metro to the race since I live right near the Vienna Orange line stop. Pentagon metro exits right by the bag drop. I like to get there early enough so I'm not rushed but not with so much time I have to wait around and stew...I'm thinking maybe 7:15? We're supposed to start lining up in the start corrals at 7:45.

This is another one of those big race weekends here at R&RR. Good luck to all the Chicago marathoners. Ironically my wife (only a casual runner) will be out there this weekend visiting with my sister in law. They may check the race out just for the pure spectacle of it all. I'm sure you guys will all rock.

And Chances good luck to you too in your hometown race.

Apple - bummer about the Phils. They have just run into a buzzsaw with Colorado. But if anyone can turn it around, our old buddy Jamie can!

And of course, happy Friday to all!

Re: Friday 10/5
rest day for me today, tomorrow I will do 21-22 miles.

Mailbox- ever consider suggesting to the coach an alumni/open meet. Perhaps 5 HS runners score, plus two alumni scores and do an invitational with 5-10 other schools?

Nirvana, you will do fine on Sunday, I just hope when you blow snot out of you nose for 3 hours that you miss you your neighbors :-)

Chances- Vit C, OJ, wash your hands frequently, same goes for the family.

David, CMJ- enjoy the 10 miler or at least hanging out together.

Flo- thanks for volunteering, do you get cool gear for helping out?

I believe I get a cool windbreaker....but it's more about helping out and giving back. Since I decided not to run it this year, I was trying to find anyway possible to be a part of it...of course, getting there at 4:45 wasn't my plan initially, I'm happy to help
