11.3.07

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE!

Ok, ok, I know, too early to talk so loud. So, Alex, I'm no math wizard; is today the day or tomorrow?

Up at 4am wide awake so here I am. Probably won't run for a couple of hours cause of darkness and I'm not quite ready to start using the headlamp especially since we'll be changing time tonight. Don't forget to change your clocks! Especially you racers!

Good luck to Tonya and other racers this morning.

Re: 11.3.07
GOOD MORNING DAN!!!

No run for me this morning. Going for a mountain bike ride later this afternoon.

I am trying to get the video stream of the men's marathon olympic trial. Not getting through on the web site . Getting an error.

Oh well. Hopefully will get it fixed soon.

Have a great day all.

Re: 11.3.07
Good luck kfuller and brown!

Just about to go to my Turkey Trot 5k at 10:00 am. It's in a local
suburb, so just about 15 minutes away. Should be nice and cold,
brrrrrrr--only 30 degrees out. So see my report later.

Hey Dan - Thanks for the compliments, and the well wishes for my 5k
today. I don't know how I'll do--I'm a mite bit sore from all the running I've
done this week. My own fault, of course.

Thus far I'm looking at 52.8 miles, and my 5k today will make it 55.9.
That, on top of 38.1 miles on the elliptical, and you realize why I'm sore...
I'm such an idiot about my working out schedule sometimes...lol....

Oh--BTW, I'm a Mac person too. So no Olympic Trials for me.

Dave - Have a great time on your bike ride later. Phillip was able to get
the Olympic Trials on his PC. One of the guys that was in the top 3 had
to drop out because of injury. The top guy right now is averaging 4:34
miles. NOT ME. Wow. Amazing.

Re: 11.3.07
Wow!!!! Ryan Hall smoked the competition in the Marathon Trials. He looked awesome.

Anyway I am going to leave here in maybe 35-40 minutes for my race. I am not sure what the temperature is and I know from the last few mornings it could be in the high 30's or low 40's. I just hope for a fast race. Good luck to all the racers today. Have a great day and I will report later.

Re: 11.3.07
Cool!! Ryan Hall is who I was routing for. Wish I could have watch it. At least the last lap or so. I couldn't get it in.

Thanks for the update.

Tonya - Have a good run. Bring home another OA Womens. Maybe in a OA.

Kfuller - Good luck and knock em dead.

Hey everyone,

Off to the beautiful Oregon Coast for a day trip with friends...one of the many benefits to living in Portland OR! Running picks back up on Monday - it's been a very nice week long break, but now I'm ready to roll!

Re: 11.3.07
Everyone it's time...see ya later.

By the way...it took me a while but I finally went on Explorer instead of Firefox and I got it to work so I saw the whole thing from mile 2 and on. Amazing race and glad to see that Brian Sell worked his butt of to close an enormous gap to make third and head to Beijing. Hall look so smooth and Tonya he didn't average 4:30s...but he did pop off 2 4:3X miles at 18 and 20. Broke the Trials record by 1:18 on a very tough course. That guy is gonna be amazing...

Re: 11.3.07
I have decided to take the entire weekend off from running. My legs feel perfectly fine while walking, but whenever I start running all my "hot spots" start flaring up a mile or so in. Rest!

Re: 11.3.07
Quick post. Good luck to all racers today.

I'm sure we've all heard of the tragedy at the U.S. Olympic Trials today. Keep Mr. Shay's family in your thoughts.

Probably about eight for me later today.

Re: 11.3.07
I'm sick about the news on Ryan Shay....that's so sad. Amazing how someone can train like he obviously did for so long and then actually DIE running the race....

i was pulling for Ryan hall and Sell and glad they both made it....hall is something else.....

well, my 5k today didn't go too well, but i finished in ok shape at 25:28....this thing turned out to be one hill after another, including 2 very substantial hills....i went out too fast, for me, not expecting a long hill in the first mile, in a cemetery of all places, and was already sucking wind at the first split, time 7:36 (slow and easy for many of you)....the second death hill went on forever on the heels of 2 other smaller hills....i knew i was "toast" when i saw it looming up ahead.....second mile was down to 8:25 and third was 8:35....last tenth was :47 i think it was...a pathetic kick to the line was all i could muster, or really wanted to muster i guess....yep, not my day....

But like all of these races i do, i really enjoy them....it was cold this morning, around 40, but clear and beautiful....made it easier to see the headstones in the graveyard!

I was somewhat amused after it was over to see that my time would've won my old AG of one month ago, 35-39, by 3 MINUTES! As it is, i managed only seventh in the 40-44 AG...just my luck to end up with the speedsters after my 40th birthday! 39th OA out of several hundred....

Well, it's a sad day for runners....i always say a prayer that i'll be okay on these runs, much moreso for my kids and wife than anything....i don't know what you say to Shay's wife or family....nothing really you can say other than the usual canned stuff, much of which just sounds insensitive (never want to hear "he's in a better place" - alltime worst?)

Guys, you're inspiring on many levels....i appreciate you all and wish you all nothing but the very best as time goes on....thank you, be smart with your running and God bless....

Phil

Re: 11.3.07
Hello everyone. It is sad to hear about the death at the trials today. Never good to hear that kind of stuff.

Today I beat my brother, but it was his fault I beat him. My time was 21:26 and not what I was look for, but I will take it. The first mile was 6:02 which is fast for me. Considering it was mostly downhill. Then my brother who was in front of me followed someone who went the wrong direction. So the second mile killed me as it is 75% uphill. Not good and I suppose the first mile being so fast was not good either. Mile 3 I felt o.k. and the guy that my brother followed to get off course beats me at the finish. I had nothing left to give. I think I was 8th OA and 2nd age group. Age group winner was like 16:56 or so. He got 2nd overall. It is a fun small race and I will be more prepared for it next year.

Have a great day everyone.

Re: 11.3.07
Well had my first run for the start of track training..maybe a bit too hard though. 5.66 at 7:42 pace...didn't feel hard or easy, but I suppose for the next week or 2 I should be at the easy end of easy. Strides and some form drills afterwards and I think I'll hold off from those untill I get back to normal running. Good to be back out there though.

See not too exciting of a thing to wait for but now that's it has started I'm looking forward. Amazing race by Hall today...he looked so comfortbale the whole race. That's so sad about Rya Shay too...running tragedies seem to be happening a lot more now than they used to.

Re: 11.3.07
Wow... who would have expected a death at the Olympic trials... Certainly puts a downer on things...

And Tonya does it again. Am I suprised???

Decent run for me this afternoon. Although, I'm still not certain what my coach is thinking. He works all week to wear down my legs, then I go into my longs tired... This is NOT building confidence...

15m, 2:10:59, 8:43pace.

For the first time in a long time, I had a positive split. 2mins, which is pretty significant. How the he!! am I gonna do 11m more in just one month?!
