Re: Turkey Day 11/22
Glad soem people had some good runs...mine was trash today. EQ, I'm having garbage runs this week as well so hopefully this will pass soon. 10.1 miles for a PR for the slowest I've ever run it. 8:56 pace...I don't understand why I'm not even close to where I was this summer...took my two weeks rest and have benn doing all easy mileage, and the wind wasn't all that bad today. Only like 13 mph. I really hope I don't bomb my race next week.

Megs, Brian, Asics, Tonya, Birthday Boy, Hawk and Pokey-Nice job racing today!!!

Happy Birthday, Phillip!

Happy Thanksgiving and I hope everyone is feeling well and a speedy recovery to those who are injured.

I ran an easy 7 miles today. It was wonderful to spend the morning with the family and then go out for my run and it wasn't even dark outside.

Have a nice day everyone!

Re: Turkey Day 11/22
Happy Thanksgiving.

I did the Great Gobbler 5K Trail Run in Nashua, N.H. Placed 214th out of 394 runners in 26:26 (8:31.6). This is almost two minutes worse than last year but I am not surprised, given how training has been going. Thus, it is also not a super disappointment. It is a fun cross-country course. I thought I worked the second half very well; the first half was too crowded to stretch the legs any.

Funny sidenote. Coupla doofuses brought their dogs on leashes to the race (allowed, apparently). Anyway, the dogs find each other within the first half mile. They lunge for each other, and in the next moment there's a pile of dogs and people sprawled on the trail.

It was good to get off the roads and run hard.

kfuller, we're measuring workouts (4.043) to the thousandth of a mile now?

Good runs, all

Re: Turkey Day 11/22
Today I ran my second 5 Mile race ever?first one was May 28, 2007, therefore an obvious PR at 33:43. The other day I looked at the McMillan calculator to kind of give me an idea on what my goal should be for this race. According to my last 5k time, 18:52, I should have been able to run a 31:06 today. So I just set my goal as something near or around that.

Well, I?ll spare you all the details, mainly because it?s not very interesting, but when Phillip and I lined up at the race start, I noticed that there were a handful of the Team Nebraska people there. There were a few guys from the Team, and one girl. I had seen her at a few other races, but I have always beaten her. I thought I might have a chance, just maybe.

Inside the YMCA, where the race started from, I had also noticed some other girls from some of the races I?ve raced in lately. All these girls were pretty fast so I knew that, if anything, the cold weather would be the one factor to keep me behind the game. Being from Nebraska, all those girls would be accustomed to this type of weather.

The weather was, in fact, COLD. The temperature when we started was 22 with light flurries, slight wind. I stayed inside until we started lining up, mainly to keep my legs warm. The race would be an out and back, sort of a ?C? shape, from the map on the Garmin.

When the gun sounded, I started off with the goal in mind to run past every girl I encountered, as is always my goal first and foremost. I
looked down at the Garmin .25 mile out and realized I was running way too fast, faster than I wanted to, that?s for sure?5:48 minute mile?and I knew it. I was freezing! Whoa! Slow down. Slowed down to about a 6:07 pace or so, and tried to keep that pace for the remainder of the race, as much as it hurt to run in the cold.

After the turnaround, 2.5 miles, I quickly realized I was the second girl overall. I had seen the Team Nebraska girl pass me by?she had at least a minute on me, meaning I could either step it up?not likely with the way I was feeling in the cold?or keep going at current pace, which was varying between 6:15 and 6:30. I decided if I caught her, good for me, and if not, at least I would PR.

Oh, to **** with it. I?ll just give you my time and my splits and be done with it.

1 ? 6:08
2 ? 6:27
3 ? 6:23
4 ? 6:15
5 ? 6:31 (that?s with 10 seconds extra, since I forgot to turn off my Garmin until 10 seconds after I stopped).

I don't know how many runners there were, or how many were in my age group (19-29), but I do know I was 2nd OA, and I won 1st in my age group.

Unofficial time ? 31:01 (When I saw 30:55 on the clock, I gave it my all to step it up and meet 31:00. But I just didn?t make it). So, there it is. 1 second off my predicted goal time, I guess.

A BETTER photo than that one Phillip posted, which made us look weird!

Baba-- That is just what the watch measured, so that is what I put. How about 4.04 miles.

Tonya---Nice job on the race today. I like the picture.

Yes, coach, "we" did.

I forgot to mention--that Team Nebraska woman's time
was 30:00. So she only beat me by a minute.

In warmer weather, I would have smoked her. I have
proof--I have done it before (re: the Go Girl Run 5k
from Labor Day 2007).

Hey Tonya, you still had a great race. 1) you beat me by :54 and 2) unless Mailbox bullseyed his predicted time today, you won the predicted time challenge (Phill and I blew it by blowing our goal times out of the water. Oh well.)

Not necessarily....you could be a bit faster than her at shorter distances. Or she could ahve improved because a kid I absolutely smoked in track this spring was right with me this XC season. Great race though, if you would have went out a bit more controlled I think you would've had more in the tank at the end....the exact thing happened to me in my 5 miler this summer.

Happy birthday Phill...it's almost over. Hope it was great.

Hope everyone ate loads more than they should've so there's lots of fuel in the tanks for the rest of the week's runs.
