A little over 42 for me (but I am still in my five week recovery period from my last marathon).

Mon- Off
Tue- 6 miles easy
Wed- 9 mile Moderate
Thu- Off
Fri- 8 miles Moderate
Sat- 6 miles easy
Sun- 13.27 -- ran with a new running club which pushed me a bit faster than I would have liked. Ended up a bit faster than a general aerobic run. However, some of those miles were DEFINITELY faster than marathon pace. Oh well, nice run...

ZZenko - Congrats on the mile PR. Looking at your training, it looks like you knock that down a fair amount further on a good day.

Nothing special for me this week. No hard runs but just starting to establish a bit of a base. I'm happy to see that my easy pace is coming down.

Mon - AM 5 ez (7:16), PM 5 ez (6:58) achilles sore
Tues - AM 5 ez (6:59), PM 5 ez
Wed - AM 5 ez (6:58), PM 2 ez, 5K easy, aerobic tempo (17:40, 5:42 pace), 2 ez
Thurs - AM 5 ez (7:00), PM 5 ez
Fri - AM 5 ez (7:05), PM 5 ez, a little tired
Sat - 12.7 ez (6:50)
Sun - 9.5 pretty slow

M: 3wu, 4x(1/2mi.@2:30, 1/2mi. rec.@3:00), 3cd.
Tu: 5 easy, (~34min.)
W: 5 slow, (~38min.)

F: 7 easy, (~44 min), 20 min snowshoe - hard
Sa: 5 slow, (~39 min)
Su: 5wu; 5 mi. thus: 5:18, 6:19, 5:18, 6:22, 5:15; 5cd.

about 60 miles. Felling rested, the faster sessions were short and sweet.

On thursday I was a little peaved the TT came out at that time, so as I finished my cooldown, I figured still felt OK and added a mile at pace, to make up for a poor last mile in the TT. Not a smart thing to do, nor a planned thing.

About as ready to race as I can be.

Re: Weekly training summaries 01/02-01/08
Thinks continue to be a little rocky for me. I was aiming for 100 mi this week, thought the sciatic pain I'd had since running over a week on SHARPLY crowned roads over Christmas was on the decline. However, during my recovery between tempo intervals on Thursday my hip locked up and I had to limp 6 miles home in severe pain.
After 2 days off I ran an easy but very, very painful 6 on Sunday. Turned out to be a good idea as it loosened my periformis muscle up and relieved some of the pain. I guess I just have to run through this one as it actually does better when I'm running than taking time off.
I have my first indoor race of the year Saturday (3000m) and am not looking forward to it. I haven't been this out of shape in years, and have only done 1 track workout (8X800 this week, 2:32 avg ).

Re: Weekly training summaries 01/02-01/08
A pretty consistent week. The only mistake I made was not eating before my long run, which meant that I couldn't hit 2 hours like I wanted.

Monday - off, recovering from a race Sunday, and there was no time anyway
Tuesday - progression run, 35 minutes
Wednesday - 62 minutes easy
Thursday - fartlek, 35 minutes
Friday - 38 minutes easy
Saturday - 99 minutes easy
Sunday - 50 minutes easy

As for the bigger picture, I've been consistently hitting 80-85 km for a month now with 2 or 3 strength workouts. I'm pretty happy with the way things are going and, as always, just want to stay consistent. I've never really had a chance to do a lot of volume over a long period of time, something always intervenes.

My legs feel tired after this week. More of the same planned for this week with an easy day on Sat. in prep. for a local 1/2 marathon this Sunday, my first race since last May!

Sun- 3.3 easy to ring in the New Year
Mon- rest
Tues- 1/2 mile warm up/cool down; 10 mile paced run on treadmill in 1:11 (83% HR ave)
Wed- 9.3 miles including 3 x 2k at 87-92% HR
Thurs- 18.1 easy miles am; 6.9 miles pm including 2 x 200m, 2 x 1k at 90-95% HR
Fri- rest
Sat- 11 easy miles including 7 x 300m steep hill bounding

60 total

Good luck to those racing in Houston and elsewhere!

Re: Weekly training summaries 01/02-01/08
Tough week, as I was aiming for 90, and as a result of illness was unable to reach my goal mileage for the first time in 2 months. Skipped the Sunday 20-miler.

M - 12 miles on a very hilly loop, averaging 6:38s, finishing strong.
p.m. - 4 miles easy recovery

T - 11.6 on the treadmill in 80:00. Easy 6:52 avg.

W - 30:00 on the stairmaster
p.m. - 10.5 miles on the treadmill in 70:00, averaging 6:38. Slow and hilly first 7m, followed by a flat 5k in 17:58. Felt okay, despite a cold coming on.

Th - 12.3m recovery run, starting out very slowly, and got a little faster toward the end. Finished feeling strong.

F - 12 w/ 8 hill repeats in the middle. Felt strong despite very sore throat. Followed w 20:00 on stationary bike.

Sa - 8.2 miles slow, and feeling less energetic as my cold takes its toll.

Su - Feeling wiped out and taking a rare day off. Never even left the house.

Total: 70.8 miles, and another 50 min. cross-training.

Hopefully the cold will go away in the next couple days, so I can take a shot at the planned 100 this week. Good luck training everyone.

Re: Weekly training summaries 01/02-01/08
Well I've been battling a pulled back, sinues, and full blown flu over the last 2+ weeks. So this isn't much of a start...but at least I'm out there.

M- 30mins
T- 30mins
W- 30mins
R- 36mins
F- 40mins
S- dnr
S- 50mins + push ups

That's roughly 32miles. I was planning for a spring marathon. Now I'm just trying to get up to 50 mpw and see where I can go from there.

Hey Andy,
I am sorry to hear things still aren't going well for you. Have you every thought of taking some time off? It sounds like you might benefit from just getting away from running for awhile. I'm not talking a few days - I'm talking a few months. It just sounds like you are not getting anything positive out of it from your weekly summarys. I certainly would not race this weekend if I were you. What benifit are you going to get from it if you aren't looking forward to it at all? If I were you, I would not run a step until I was absolutely "chomping at the bit" to run again. Anyway, good luck on your injury.
