Training Summaries: 2/20-2/26

Another decent week for me:
M - AM, 8 easy 6:55 avg. PM, 6 easy sub-7 pace.
T - 10 miles. 2 warmup 6:55 pace, then 10minON/5OFF/8ON/4OFF/6ON/
3OFF/4ON/2OFF/2ON. Avg ON pace ~5:25, avg OFF pace ~6:10.
Total time for whole 10 miles 59:17.
Slower than I wanted, but legs tired going into this workout.
W - 12.5 miles easy 6:45 avg. Took it very easy.
R - AM, 8 easy 6:52 avg. PM, 3 warmup, then 4 mile tempo 21:13 (5:18
pace). Slightly wind-aided. 2.25 cooldown for 9.25 total.
F - AM, 8 very easy 6:56 avg. PM, 10 mostly easy 6:40 avg. Did 10X
(~100m acceleration/100m jog) in last 2 miles (6:09-6:06).
Sa - ~17 miles VERY hilly, about 7:30 pace (moderate effort).
Su - AM, 6 very easy 7:02 avg. PM, 10.25 easy 6:38 avg.
Total for week: 105 miles

--1st half of week I was still recovering from last week's 115. Tuesday's workout was slow but I got through it well enough to get the benefit. Thursday's tempo was a little wind-aided, but I was VERY happy with it as conditions were almost identical to the 21:10 race I did a few weeks back and this run was very much under control.

Another ~100 next week before cutting it back for a possible race.

Re: Training Summaries: 2/20-2/26
Another week come and gone. Moved to the "country" on Friday and my son was sick on Monday....so mileage less than normal...which isn't saying much lately.

M- DNR
T- 4m (24.21) w/ 5x1min on/1min off
W- 4m (24.37)
R- 3m (16.54) w/ a hard 1/4 and 1/2 thrown in
F- DNR
S- 30min elliptical machine ~ 7.2miles with 1 hard minute each 5mins
S- 3m trial in 16.16

I think the elliptical machine has helped my ab/groin strain quite a bit over the last couple of weeks.

Re: Training Summaries: 2/20-2/26
I have had two poor weeks in a row. I won't even tell you how lazy I got last week, but this week I did do 66 miles.

I have just not had the motivation lately, but I better get it soon because I have a marathon planned for April 2nd. The next two weeks I will be aiming for 80-85 miles, so hopefully that will carry me through... only time will tell.

Re: Training Summaries: 2/20-2/26
A decent week. 64.5 miles.

Mon: 7 mile aerobic run

Tue: 7 mile aerobic run

Wed: 2.5 mile warm up, 15k time trial, 1 mile cool down
Planned on running at (projected) marathon pace but fell off after first 5k. Very discouraging.

Thu: 2 miles easy with the wife

Fri: 8 mile aerobic run

Sat: 7.5 mile aerobic run

Sun: 20 miles hard, averaging 10% slower than (projected) marathon pace
Planned on doing an easy 4.5 miles warming up for a 25k race, and doing the race as a progressive-pace run. Instead, I warmed up with a couple of guys considerably faster than me and ran most of the 25k at too hard a pace. It didn't help that this was a real "old-school" race: the $5 entry fee got you a sweatshirt, 4 water stops, and not much else (no awards, no traffic control, NO MILE MARKERS!).

92 mpw with long runs of 15 and 23. Pushed the back 10 of the 23'er hard. All other was base stuff.
