Well it seemed mildly ridiculous that everyone was repeating their sex for each marathon...glad someone noticed.

Re: Marathon Survey
DHornbeck--

Funny story about this coming Sunday. Two weeks ago my wife confidently predicted the weather would be sunny with a high of 65 on race day. At first, the forecast called for 40 degrees with wind and a snow/rain mix, then high 40's with cloudy skies, and now they say high 50's and sunny. This whole week she's been telling me there is absolutely no reason to worry about the weather, and sooner or later the forecasters would get it right and agree with her. Stunning.

Anyway, I'll see you at the start, the turnaround, and the finish. Good luck.

Re: Marathon Survey
I've run 12 marathons, this years Boston will be my 13th.

My last marathon was the Cape Cod Marathon, in October of 05:

Age: 43
Sex: M
Time: 4:49:35
"What stopped me running faster at the end was......."

Dehydration and glycogen depletion, also the rolling hills after mile 16.

Re: Marathon Survey
I just want to take a minute and soak in this post from Megapronator:

- Age 32
- 5:25
- Out way to hard and hit the wall at 18. 80 minute 19th mile, and then walked to the end. Splits 1:22/4:03.

That is one impressive bonk! Not saying this to be flip, but I've never seen 2 splits in the marathon like that. Sounds like there's a story there with the 80 minute 19th mile...did you lay down? Get an IV? I had a friend who lay down for ~20 minutes and fell asleep then went on to finish (and still BQ'ed - I hate him!)

I want the details - this makes me feel infinitely better about some of my less-than-stellar 2nd half performances! Tell us some of the story!

Hi All

I'm conducting a simple survey of runners who've completed a full marathon. What I'm looking for is;

Age (on race day)
Sex
Time
"What stopped me running faster at the end was......."
<HR>

25
Male
2:35:49 (at altitude)
- not much, I closed with 5:40s/50s in spite of having to stop twice (15 and 18 miles) to stretch out cramping quads

25
2:34:24 (at altitude)
- maybe pushed a little too hard between 13 and 19. Hit the wall at 23. Getting giardia and a relapse during the 6 weeks before the race didn't help!

41
2:44:24
- again maybe pushed a little too hard between 13 and 19.

47
3:00:01
- just ran out of gas at 19. Had missed some key workouts due to injury, illness, and extreme weather. Nutrition could have been better.

Well Here is my Boston Review. I've also run plenty of other marathons, but this is good for comparison.

28 3:05:08 Died on hills

31 2:46:13 My PR but walked on hills
32 2:52:55 Died on hills
33 3:02:32 Died on hills
34 3:20:17 Didn't train
35 2:49:32 Died on hills
36 2:56:32 Died on hills
37 2:55:54 Died on hills
38 3:36:36 Didn't train
39 3:17:10 Didn't train
40 3:14:08 Died on hills
41 3:05:29 Died on hills
42 3:07:01 Died on hills
43 3:02:44 Died on hills

46 3:38:25 The heat got to me

Well that's 20 years of boston. This year I'll be 47 and I've trained and the Hills will still kill me. Hopefully the weather will be 50. 80+ degrees is way to hot.

Re: Marathon Survey
Runscottygrun - Nice string of Bostons - I started running 3 years ago and am 6/6 on BQs - but I keep avoiding actually going to run. Your post truly points out why I have no desire to run Boston - "It is not the easiest course in the world"

But I will go in 2007 - Because when I am done with this running thing I would look back at not doing Boston as a regret.

Enjoy - Hope you get you sub 3:00
