Re: Maine Runners
Hi everyone, glad to hear that everyone's been able to keep up the running (indoors or out) through the harsh winter.

I've sign up for VCM and my training schedule started last week. Its also the 3rd week after our 2nd child's born and I have to say that things haven't been too bad. However, if anymore of these 2-4 or 3-5 in the morning thing keeps up, I may have to take up drinking coffee or anything caffinated!!! Anyhow, its 1 week down and 17 more to go. Training could always be better, but given the circumstance, I can't complain.

Although I haven't sign up for the race, I'm sure I'll be there for the 10-miler in Cape Elizabeth. I've got a couple of friends that'll be running VCM with me, so we're going to use that as our LSD for the week.

BTW, thanks Boothy for volunteering. It's people like you that makes races possible :-)

I too will be running B2B. My wife sign up and started training for it last year (before she found out that she was pregnant), so I'm sure she'll be hitting the pavement with the rest of us for that race as well.

Stay healthy and run well everyone!

Re: Maine Runners
Well it sounds good for the weekend at Cape...

I've only worked one race since i started running and i had a good time seeing everyone. I would rather be running this one but you know how it goes when you have an injury.

Bob it good to here from you and i was worried that you were down because you did not reach your goal in the marathon. I think it is great that you are out there trying and working at getting better.
Are you going to try and run corporate track this year?

I have not seen any post from Curly has anyone seen her around?

Ellufa it is hard with a newborn but it can be done. If anyone reads RW they will find a good story about extremes in the article about Dean Karnazes good reading. It makes the things we do seem small.

This page is for all runners new and old lets get people involved and if there's questions or good places to run join in.
Maybe you have a story about something that happen while running or a joke!

Any good running clubs out there?

Hope to hear from everyone soon and keep up the running.

Re: Maine Runners
Hi all. Anyone here from York? Also, other than the B2B race in August, what are THE races not to miss in southern Maine/coastal New Hampshire?

Re: Maine Runners
Hi RunRguy,

I'm not in the York area.
But there are a couple of good races in Southern Maine. But the one thing is what distance are you looking for.
I like the Eliot 5k around the last week of September and if you want distance there is ES20 which runs through 3 states ME, NH and Mass.
You should check coolrunning.com for other events.

I hope this helps and good running

Re: Maine Runners
Well folks we are almost a month an a half into the new year and what are your running resolutions for the coming year?

I'm still coming off an injury so i've just started putting a couple of days in a week together for the first time since August. I will have to use last year resolutions again for this year.

I would like to run the half marathon this year because i missed it last year and that's what i'll try to gear for and i hope to do the marathon next year.

Has anyone done the Eastern states 20 in the past and how is it as a race?

Keep on running althought tomorrow and Friday may not be good days...

Re: Maine Runners
Thanks for the response, Boothy, as well as for the link. I'm looking for any distance, really. I have a few 5k's already scheduled for this spring and am looking for something longer, perhaps a half-marathon, sometime in late spring. I have signed up for the NYC Marathon in the fall, and depending on wether or not I get in through the lottery, I may do the marathon in Portland instead. I'm also just now coming back from an ankle sprain and building up my mileage again otherwise the ES20 would be tempting. Where else can you run a race that hits 3 states? I keep looking at it but I think it's too much too soon.

Anyway, thanks again.

Re: Maine Runners
I agree with you about ES20 i'm in the same boat with the injury and i've really have never run that far. But it looks inviting it's the type of run i would like along the ocean.

Good luck and keep running.

Re: Maine Runners
I lived in York for 25+ years until I built a house on the Saco River in Biddeford almost three years ago now.

There is a great half marathon being run on March 13th in Boston called "Boston's Run to Remember" they have combined a couple of older runs and this is the first year for this one. I can't wait, anyway there is also a 5 mile run on the same day there as well that you might be interested in doing.

Some other really good runs I've done are the Portland Boys & Girls Club 5 miler run on Patriots Day, Doc Tigers 3 Miler run in Biddeford in June, York Days 5K run in August, the Portlad Sea Dogs 5K run on Mothers Day, and in July the LL Bean 10K.

Try some of those I have run them all and found them to be really good runs. The Sea Dogs race is really cool, you start out in front of the Portland Expo and finish up by running inside Fitzpatrick Stadium.

Re: Maine Runners
Hi there Bob,
How are things going with you?

I like the Seadog and the LLBean i have run both myself.

I would like to do the ES20 along the ocean that sounds interesting to me and i real like runs by the ocean.
Do you do any fishing in the ocean i haven't for quite some time and keep talk about it?

But to me if you like 5K that are flat and fast and have great food you really need to try the Eliot race and it has a large number of people almost 1200.

I want to develop a run for runners who are not afraid of hills some time and hope to work on it soon.

I try to keep running!

Re: Maine Runners
Hi Bob, and thanks for the reply. I've only been in York for the past 3 years. So far I really like the community.

I had wanted to run Boston's Run To Remember but unfortunately I have a scheduling conflict. I'm bummed I'm going to miss it, that looks like a really good race and exactly what I was looking for at the right time of the year. Now I am trying to find another half to run sometime in the March-May timeframe.

The Sea Dogs race sounds pretty cool. I haven't done the York Days race yet but did run the Four on the 4th here in York last July 4th, which turned out to be a pretty good event. At least half of the 4 mile course runs along the ocean at Long Sands Beach (that might interest you, Boothy) and it was pretty flat.

I'd also like to try a sprint or olympic triathlon sometime this year, it's another one of my goals for the year.

Thanks again, I appreciate the input. Good luck with your running this year.

Re: Maine Runners
Hey Boothy I don't fish on the ocean, just never had an interest in it. Since I now live on the Saco River I bought a 17 1/2 foot Bow Rider and have a dock so I plan on doing a little fishing on the river along with the other obvious recreational things like swimming, tubing and water skiing. The wife and I love to just take the boat out for a nice pic nic, nothing like it! But even better is coming back from a nice run and walking down to the river for a quick dip in a great clean river. How refreshing!

I reall would like to run the Eastern States 20 miler I am just not sure how it would be after flying home from Las Vegas on Friday night. The race is on a Saturday this year instead of Sunday because of Easter which bums me out a little. I am still thinking of running it though. It would be another great tune up for Boston as my three week taper begins on March 28th.

RunRGuy I have run York's 4 on the 4th but chose the LL Bean race this past year. I really liked that race a bit better, more for the spouse to do while they are waiting etc.

I would be gald to chat with yo sometime about running etc. If you ever need a running partner give me a shout. As I said earlier I work in York and will do a fair amount of running during my lunch hour once the weather turns warmer and the streets are cleaned up.

Re: Maine Runners
Howdy everyone, being busy with the new baby and at work, so didn't get a chance to check the site till now.

I did end up running the 10-mile race last week in Cape. Me and a couple of friends have signed up for the VCM, so we took advantage of the flagged route and the water stops, and ran the 10-miler as our training run. I end up pushing it a bit harder than a training run and finished in 1:18:01. All in all, it was a good, controlled run and we had great weather, so I was happy with it.

The only race that I want to add to the list of races is the Yarmouth 5-miler. I've found that race to be a good tune-up for the Beach to Beacon.

My friends that ran the Cape 10-miler are also eyeing (one has actually sign up already) the Boston Run to Remember Half Marathon. I too may end up running that race (as a race) if my work schedule don't come into conflict with that event. As for the ES20, I have an 18-miler scheduled for that weekend, so I may end up running the 20 as my training run and call it good. However, I'll need to get permission from my wife before committing to any of these races because having her being at home with a 2 y.o. and a new born, while I'm out running and having fun, doesn't sound too fair.

Boothy, when you ask about ocean fishing are you asking about surf/jetty fishing or are you asking about going out on a boat? What specifically are you trying to find out? I do quite a bit of fishing (fresh and saltwater), so ask away and I may be able to help you out.

Thanks for the offer, that would be great, definitely. I am an early morning runner but wouldn't mind a change of pace once in a while, and I work out of my home so have a flexible schedule. I am now starting to get wary of this winter and all the snow as of late and looking forward to some warmer weather, even though I continue to run outdoors, mainly because I really can't stand the treadmill. Although, I'm leaving this week for 10 days in the sunny Caribbean, so life could be worse!
