Have any of you ran on Green Mountain? I just ran it for the first time yesterday, and had a great time. But heres a warning, beware the long trail. On the west side it goes almost straight up. Its for a solid mile, and I think you gain anywhere from 500-800 ft. in elevation. I definitely wasn't ready for that, but now I know.

I've run the trail on the west side, it just keeps going and going.

Have you run Dakota Ridge and Matthews Winter Park off of the Golden exit? The climb by red rocks just keeps going and the drop offs are pretty steep.

Re: Denver/Boulder/Colorado Runners
Some of my goals this year have been to explore the trails in that area. I think you can get into BCLP without paying as long as you're not driving in, right? So far, all my trail running has been in Stonehouse Park off of Yale and Estes. Pretty decent, lots of narrow pathes through the trees. About 1.5 miles from the parking lot to Wads. and back.

I think next time I take the long trail, I'll just stick to the lower route. If I want to get to the top, I'll just take Hayden(?) Trail.

Re: Denver/Boulder/Colorado Runners
Stonehouse Park huh? I think I?ll have to give it a shot some time, as for BCLP no you don?t have to pay if you run or bike in and you can park on the west side of 4-70 just across from the breakplace (gas station) but there is a smaller lot just across the street to the south of the breakplace leads right into the path for BCLP so you don?t have to cross that rather busy street. I bought an annual pass, I feel more secure about my truck being parked in one of the parks lots as the park rangers patrol quite regularly that way I don?t have worry about theft or break-ins .

Re: Denver/Boulder/Colorado Runners
Hey, have any of you folks hiked Lookout Mountain in Golden?

We are doing the Climb for Cure in August and it says it is 3.2 miles up and back, for 6.4 total.

Is it steep? I have a whole crew of ladies who are doing it with me, but very few of them are terribly active. I was wondering how the trail/terrain/incline is...

Thanks!

Re: Denver/Boulder/Colorado Runners
-DS, the trails at Stonehouse are pretty flat, but if you're lucky, you'll find a few steep sections that ecen the horses won't dare touch.

-wyrillco, are you guys going up a trail or trying to share the road? Golden High's track team used to run up that hill for their workouts, and I always heard about how difficult it was. You should be able to find out what the elevation gain is either way. You might try one of the map sites to see what you can find. You might even steal a glance at the map machine at Galyan's!

When I was in high school we ran up the road once a year. But the road and the trail are very different. I think the road is approximately that distance, but it took anywhere from 40 minutes to an hour. It isn't terribly strenuous to walk but it will be difficult.

Have a good time!

Re: Denver/Boulder/Colorado Runners
Thanks guys! I guess I would assume it is the road since it is supposed to be this big event. That would easier to organize and direct than a trail, right?

The Climb is all on the paved road on the side coming up from the School of Mines. It's steep at parts, but not as challenging as the trails there. It's always been well organized and usually has some pretty good sponsors and food. To me, it's always been a fun event.

Are you doing it this year? I'll be with this crazy group of women, probably dressed in pink, as all of us are directly affected by breast cancer (mom, aunt, sister, etc) and are going to be showing our support for that cause, specifically. All cancer causes are good, that's just ours.

Yes, I'm doing it this year, and I'm doing the Relay For Life in Littleton on July 23rd and 24th. We have a team comprised of family members that do it every year.

I was in the Beauty and the Beast wave. I did 6:55. I've never raced such a short distance before. It was hard!
I wouldn't have thought to do it, but the half-marathon training group I'm with was doing it as speedwork.
We saw people we knew running with their kids. It seems like a fun way to get them started running.
