Re: Columbus OH runners
Where is Baltimore Ohio? I live east of Columbus, but I'm not familiar with Baltimore.

Re: Columbus OH runners
Baltimore Ohio is in north central Fairfield County. From east Columbus you would take 70 east past Pickerington and Pataskala to the Rt. 158 exit (Kirkersville/Baltimore Rd.) and go south about 8-10 miles. Rt. 158 goes right into Baltimore- The intersection of Rt. 158 and Rt. 256 is the manin intersection in Baltimore. The school district there is Liberty Union-Thurston. It's their cross country team that organizes the 5K every year. Last year I bought my first pair of running shoes from Frontrunner and told the salesman I was running the Baltimore Festival 5K- he told me he had run it several years before, expecting to finish in the top few with the times he was running. But to his surprise it was much more competetive!

Hey All,

So, who's running the Columbus Marathon in Oct? I had to stop training all July and most of August, so I'm doing 10 miles in the relay. These cooler days have been sooo nice! And 7 whole days without rain!

I'm not ready to run a full marathon yet, just did my first half marathon. But I am considering volunteering for the Columbus Marathon.

Re: Columbus OH runners
Hi everyone!

I'm just wondering what kind of races will there be in Columbus around Christmas time. It looks like we might be up there for Christmas.

If you could provide a link to a website that lists events, that would be great!

Re: Columbus OH runners
25 weeks, 5 days... I just started another marathon program. For me this season is over, and I feel pretty good. I finished the Detroit Marathon last weekend, and although it was not a PR or a BQ it was my 20th Marathon finish. I was also told last spring that due to a sports related injury I would have to bag the fall season. I took care of myself and trained hard. I also listened to my body. (that is hard for me to do...) I did not set any goals higher than what I was able to accomplish. For a few months I was just glad I was even running again. Once I decided that I was running Detroit I did have a goal other than just finishing though. I was not going to walk, and I was going to break a 10 minute per mile pace. I ran a 4:19:03. That is a 9:53 per mile pace. I am very proud of that. I could not even walk without serious pain a few months ago. I also did not hurt my IT band or my heel. (PF) I ran without any pain Wednesday and Thursday as well as this weekend. This is the best time of year to run trails around Central Ohio. I wish it could last. Hocking Hills is awesome. I have 25 weeks, 5 days until my next Marathon! I am back, and I really want Boston 2005!!!

Re: Columbus OH runners
OK- I remember that some of you posting here ran the Athens Ohio marathon or half before. I'm considering the half in April- it's on the 4th. Either that or the Indy mini marathon on May 8th. I see the Athens race is on the bike path with an out and back course- doesn't it get crowded? Opinions of the race overall???

Thanks!

Re: Columbus OH runners
I have run in Athens 4 years in a row now. Last year I could only run the 1/2 marathon due to knee problems, but NOTHING was going to keep me away. It's an out and back course that starts on the OU College Green and runs downhill out of town and onto the Hockhocking Adena Bikeway just yards from the river. It's very rural and scenic. The marathon only had 135 finishers last year, and just over 300 1/2 marathoners. It's without a doubt the smallest marathon you will find, but it is a very good one. The finish is in the Ohio University Track & Field Stadium. It is well organized and supported. The race is USATF certified, and it is a fast course. The Marathon finishers medal is nice, and the mock turtle neck shirt is the most heavy weight I have ever seen at any race. In 165 days I will be standing at the starting line in Athens. You can count on that. I have run the Indy Mini as well, and that is a very cool lap around the Brick Yard. It is a HUGE race (25,000 runners), and much of it is not in the best parts of town... It was a great experience, but once was enough. The Rock and Roll Half in Virginia Beach is also something you may want to think about next fall. That is a very COOL course. You get the Sun, the Beach, and Rock 'n' Roll. Oh yea, I almost forgot. Cheerleaders every mile...
