In theory I'm going. I've submitted my vacation request but they haven't approved it quite yet. As usual, our company decides to schedule a release for the end of July, right when everyone wants to take vacation. I'm sure this is some stupid theory they have about people showing their 'dedication' or some sort of **** like that. They've done this every year I've been here. In the past people have had to postpone vacations sometimes till late fall (not good if you have kids). The irony is that year end is in October and they ask that all employees take their accrued vacation time before then...or lose it.

Re: BC Runner's Forum
Read your report Tim . . . congrats on your PR! Congrats to you too Bob!

Jim, I did the Delta 1/2 a couple of years ago . . . it is flat, winds through farmland; the wind can be an issue & there is no shade. The shirts are technical fabric rather than cotton which is nice & as it starts & finishes at a rec centre, facilities are decent & there's lots of food.

Got my long run in this morning so taped the Boston Marathon. Am enjoying watching it now & fastforwarding the commercials. Mudr, let us know how your mom did!

We needed to be bumped to the top . . . all of you enjoying your tapers before Vancouver Int'l, Elk Lake etc.?

I wondered why I couldn't keep my heartrate down on my long run on Monday . . . appears I've been blessed with my first cold in more than a year! So long as it is gone by May 2 (doing the 1/2 in Van.).

Not quite yet... I tapered last week, before the Sun Run, so I'm trying to get in some more miles (and one more long run) this week. I'm looking forward to doing the 1/2 - I'm not looking forward to that 200' hill at mile 8, though!

Thinking about doing a Grouse Grind next week as one last hill workout, but maybe that's not really tapering...

Hey Jenn,

Yup doing the taper thing right now. Not crazy about living through a taper though... I'm one who has a hard time sitting still! but I know it will pay off in the end, "I hope!" I have a 10k race tomorow, but I'm sooooo excited for the 50km on sat "Can't wait!" While I'm on the couch on advil I'll be watching you on tv doing the marathon he he... Good luck to you! I know you will fly through that marathon and I hope for nice weather for you this year! Last year was pretty wet ha.

Do you have a goal in mind? That cold will be gone too... positive thinking

PS Mud yes I want to hear how Mom did too!!!!!

Re: BC Runner's Forum
Hi, Wondering if anybody from North Vancouver (Edgemont area) is driving to the start of the Vancouver Marathon, 2 May, and has room for two in his/her vehicle?

I don't hang around in the forums enough - just discovered the BC runner thread while searching for the appropriate spot to post this....Hi All!

Happy Trails

Re: BC Runner's Forum
Hi all!

Good luck at Elk Beaver, ladysmithrunner!! Any predictions? I know you must be going nuts with the taper - (btw, did you realize that Turtlepace is our friend from Club Fat ***?). I was hoping to make a go at the 50 miler but with Mrs mudrunner out of town (Las Vegas!!!), I'm at home with the kids (maybe skiing or skimboarding with them on Saturday).

Hey Turtlepace, is Mr Turtlepace going to Elk Beaver on Saturday? Good luck to you at the marathon! Is your Dad running it too?

Good luck Jenn & Bob in the 1/2. Don't worry so much about the Stanley Park hill, there's plenty of downhill to make up for it.

Update on my mother's Boston: She went to enjoy the race & survived the heat quite nicely. Since she knew that a PR was outa the question & she was so enthralled with the experience, she came out of it with great stories & memories. Basically, she high-fived everyone she could on the route, thanked a whole slew of volunteers at every aid station, etc... She even hooked up with a few CoolRunners (jcumming, Aamos, hrmay's sister, etc...).
She fiished in 5:05 & without any major issues - just like a long training run. She was a bit dismayed last Sunday when she lost her medal...she found it at 10:00pm & called to let everyone know.

Re: BC Runner's Forum
Hi Mudrunner,

Thanks for the good wishes. Yes, dad Turtle is running his 100th marathon on Sunday...We are all very excited.

Not sure if Mr. Turtlepace is going to Elk Beaver. It's the birthday of one of the little Turtles and we planned the party for late afternoon on Friday...traveltime, if he wants to go to Victoria ;-) Total oversight on our part. I think he was hoping to find somebody who is leaving Vancouver later as well.

Hello BC. We are planning a BC summer holiday with the kids for July. We'll be spending a week in Kelowna. Just thought I'd ask and see if any of you have recommendations on what to do? Where to eat etc. oh yeah, and maybe where to run.

thanks.

Kelowna is very wellendowed with restaurants...partly because of the wineries & partyly because of market share - turns out that Kelowna is the perfect testing ground for restaurants. Almost all of the chains have a local representation (Earl's, Keg, Cactus Club, etc...) I can't recommend anything specific though.
There are some great wineries to visit, & the lake is a center of activity (jet ski, water ski, windsurf).
As far as running goes (or easy mountain biking with kids), I woulda said the Kettle Valley Railway (converted to bike/hike) but the forest fires devastated the area & most of the spectacular wooden trestles (bridges) burned down - I don't know how the restoration is going. There are other sections to the Railway that go into Penticton - they are very scenic, but the Myrah Canyon was the jewel. The beauty of railways, is that the grade is never more than 2% incline.

Re: BC Runner's Forum
Hi BC runners!
Posted this in the wrong forum earlier. So I will try again...... I was wondering if anyone in the Tri Cities could suggest a nice long route. Does anyone know the length of the whole PoCo trail?
I have run for years, and only very recently started to enter races. I did a 5k in March, Sun Run in April and this past weekend I did the Vancouver Half. No stopping now!! Next is the Masters Mile and the Scotia Half.
Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you.
Maureen
