Hey Michelle,

Is this your first half? I seem to remember you doing one last year but something going wrong, like a snow storm?

Fill me in. I'm so excited for you!

Disappoint me? Don't let me be a source of any sort of pressure on you at all. I'm there for YOU. I'm just certain that you have more pep in you than you know.

Please, please, please... if I'm adding any sort of pressure to you, let me know. If you'd rather I didn't run with you, let me know. My ego won't be bruised.

What I wanted was just to run with you and give you encouragement and hold your water bottle and pace you to a PR. Not whip you up a hill, not be disappointed if you didn't make the PR.

This is about you, not about me, and if you are worried about me then it isn't about you. I'll bow out quietly!

Lemme know!

Thank you Grizz, no pressure from you at all, it's all me. I'll take your company on the run and start relaxing. And I'm really looking forward to it too.

Willrun... It's not my first half, this will be my second. Last year, I had trained for this same half, but it was cancelled because of a snow storm, I then found another one about 5 weeks away and ran that one. It was a really nice run, but much harder then what I was trained for, very warm and a couple of good hills. the hardest hill was at the finish line.

I was happy i finished but I walked more then I had planned and I came in at 2:35:59 or something like that, much slower then I was hoping.

I'm trying to make this run a very progressive year of running for myself, and Grizz offered to help pace me on the half this April.

Re: Alberta Runner's Forum II
So, my last couple of runs haven't gone well. I'm having pain in my lower leg (worse on the right side) from my ankle, at the front, to about just above mid shin. Sharp, weakness type pain. and then general tenderness all the time. It's not the same as shin splint pain.

Couldn't do my long run because it hurt so much. I'm icing... any ideas?

Re: Alberta Runner's Forum II
Michelle - obviously, shin splints was my first thought, but if it's a different feeling then, could it be compartment syndrome. I'll do a search and see if I can find any specifics...but like most running-related injuries I suspect that ice, rest, anti-inflamatory meds is probably the best thing for it.
Most of all, don't get discouraged!

I'll try a run again tonight and see what happens. More ice and I'm taking Advil. I'm not sure what it is that you mentioned.

Re: Alberta Runner's Forum II
Ran 4 miles last night, did 45 min, every 15min, I walked and stretched out a bit, and iced after, did very well actually. More tightness then pain during the run. I'm so relieved. I don't think it's compartment symdrome, just some really bad shin splints or really tight muscles.

thanks for asking.

Hey BTW, Hershey is going to school on Saturday mornings.

Re: Alberta Runner's Forum II
Michelle - happy to hear the run went reasonably well.

As for Hershey...atta boy!!!
I'm sure you will get as much out of the sessions as he will! Where are you taking him?

Both our dogs went through puppy classes, then beginners obedience, and Charlie went on to Novice obedience classes. I really should have started him back at obedience or even agility classes when we moved to here, but alas, I didn't. Now, he is our big doofus dog!

We did have Sam tested a few years ago and she has her CGC (Canine Good Citizen) designation which is kind of like a pre-requisite for them to continue on to become a therapy dog.

Re: Alberta Runner's Forum II
Goldens, We're taking him to a place called Sit Happens. He's doing pretty good. Just want some basic good habits, he's getting big and strong. And I'd love to be able to run with him soon.

Speaking of running, I didn't today, thought I would give myself a day in between rest until the pain is all gone. Just did weights today.

How are your runs going?

Re: Alberta Runner's Forum II
Michelle - very wise to take rest days when you need them.

I am running again outdoors - not fast and not incredibly long, but nevertheless it feels great to be running again!

Hi.
Just thought I'd introduce myself as a fellow Alberta runner. Sounds like some of you are doing the Calgary Police 1/2 at the end of April. I'll be there!
Happy running!
Jody

Jody - welcome. Yes, I think both Michelle and Grizz are doing the Calgary Police Half-Marathon. Unfortunately, I'll be away that weekend and won't be there in person to 'cheer' on the CR team, but I will definitely be cheering from afar!

Re: Alberta Runner's Forum II
So, I'm doing some of my easier and long runs outside when given the chance. Grizz, I'm not cheating myself by running by time instead of mileage am I?

I don't the mileage of my run, so I'm just guessing I'm doing a 12min pace and run for that miles x 12min pace. I figure as long as I'm getting close to the mileage and getting that actually running time on my feet, I should be ok.

Had an awesome run on Sunday, ran through my neighourhood, and did laps around a little Community lake, so peaceful and beautiful. Only did 1:42 so just under 9 miles, not great for a long run, but I had slept in, I was hoping for 11, this weekend instead.

How is everyone else doing? Grizz are you feeling better yet?
