Are you doing the 30K or the 15K? Have you done it before?

That's a good question. I thought about the 15K, but the running-club coach suggested the 30K since I'm planning a marathon (my first) next February. So we'll see.

I haven't done the race before but I've heard good things about it. Have you done it before? How is it?

It is great! A shaded out and back in the Tamoka Forest (great scenery). I love out and backs because when you are hurting on the way back you always get to see people and it makes you push a bit harder.

I used this race for my last prep race for Tampa two years ago and that is my plan again this year. Tampa is 7 weeks later now though so I won't be as tweaked this time.

Race report: 2 mile CC race this morning. My team almost got swept - I was our #1 runner and I got 7th -eek. I ran 10:38 on a muddy two mile course. My wife coasted on the women's side to an easy 12:45 for the overall win by about 200 meters.

Re: New Florida Runners Forum
I just wanted to say Hi! I am not really a newbie, since I have been on here for almost a year and a half now. I ran throughout high school in cross country and continued to run until I got pregnant with my first son. While pregnant with him I gained 70 lbs. So I started running again and lost most of it. I weighed 145 alot of which was muscle. Then thanks to lovely stress fractures I was out for a while, and oooops, found out I was pregnant again. Now I am finally back and to be extra careful I am doing the C25K. Don't want to risk hurting myself again!

I wanted to say thank you to Florida Boiler! The last time I talked to you, which seems like forever ago, you recommended I go to First Place sports here in Jacksonville and get properly fit for new shoes. I have not had ANY shin pain whatsoever since I have done that. Thanks again!

Hi Andromeda! Congrats on your second pregnancy! Have you had the baby yet or are you still pregnant? The C25K program is great...it's what got me back into running.

Florida Boiler---you weren't in Orlando this weekend at Wonderworks, were you? There was a guy there that looked eerily like your profile picture!

Re: New Florida Runners Forum
FloridaGirl,
Thank you so much. Yes I had the baby already. He was beautiful baby boy, but unfortunately he had a nueral tube defect called anencephaly and was born still on July 21st when I was 5 1/2 months pregnant. That is one of the main reasons that I started running again, I realized a long time ago, that mentally, there is nothing better than a nice long run when you feel kind of crappy. It has helped so much to go out and run over the past week.

I am really enjoying the C25K, but in a sense I don't like it either. I was used to pretty easily running 3-5 miles 4-5 times a week, so to start off so slow can be frustrating, but I keep telling myself it is better to take it slow than to rush it and end up hurting myself again. I can't wait to get back up to the level so that I can start racing and meeting up with some of you guys.

I'm am so sorry to hear about that, but you seem to be taking it okay. Bless your heart!

At first, the C25k plan was annoying to me because it does start you off so slow, but I stuck with it and am glad I did. I pretty much started back running in April, and I'm up to 13 miles now.

We're tentatively planning to meet in Gainesville in October. Some of the FL runners are running the Micanopy half. I'm running the Marine Corps Marathon the weekend after the half, so I'm not running. BUT, I want to meet everyone, so I'm going to go cheer our FL runners on!

Re: New Florida Runners Forum
Hey guys how are my little floridiands this morning! Still can't run, but got the OK to do the elliptical trainer. BORING, but better than nothing, and they have a weird 30 minute rule, like I'm anywhere near done after 30 minutes! Oh well added strength training today with that extra time. Toe is slowly getting better.....

Good luck with the toe. The elliptical is great if you can't run.

Re: New Florida Runners Forum
Does anyone in the Jacksonville area know of any nice areas to go running. I live on the westside and in my neighborhood there are quite a few hills, and my knees just aren't quite ready for that yet, on top of the fact that it isn't the nicest area. One place I love to run is in Fleming Island, they have the greatest trails that I can run on but it is almost 40 minutes away depending on traffic. If I can't find anywhere else I may be cursed to running on the track, and I HATE running in circles!

Re: New Florida Runners Forum
The Rail Trail is nice. You can park at the Imeson end (usually packed with cyclists, so get there early on the weekends) near I-295 off Commonwealth, or at the Baldwin side off Brandy Branch. 14.5 miles from one end to the other with shaded areas along the way.

Thank you very much I'll have to try that out. You know what is funny? For some reason every time I type marathon, I always end up typing marathong and having to correct it, lol.

Re: New Florida Runners Forum
I agree with Marathong,
Last fall/winter I was drving 30 minutes from Arlington, two or three times a week just to run there. It's very flat, some shade, well marked (every 1/2 mile) and I encountered very few cyclists...I went on weekday mornings. Good place for some "LSD" trianing.
One of my best long workouts to-date...an 18 miler, last 9 @ marathong goal pace, last Oct.
Be careful though...nothing like a pulled groin 7 miles out...then that painful 2 hr. walk back to the car.
