Re: New Florida Runners Forum
Just another great day to run. The sunrise was beautiful. I must have felt good because I came in about 2 minutes better than my average time.

All of your runs have been sounding great lately Bob! I envy the cool temps. It's been warm here, but at least not as humid as usual.

I ran last night with a lady from my daughter's soccer team, (funny I don't even know her name). She's been talking to me a lot about running because she always see's me running during soccer. I went out with her for a 30 minute run, it was very slow but the weather was nice. She just started running without taking walk breaks and is so excited. She asked me last week why her throat burns and it feels like she can't breathe when she runs. I said you're going too fast, slow down the pace until your more cardiovasculary fit. She said it was the best advice she'd ever gotten and now feels like a real runner. Isn't that funny? Such simple advice and yet it improved her attitude towards herself as a runner tremendously!

I agree it's the little things that while sometimes they may not improve our speed certinly improves our comfort and attitude.

There is a lady at work that I've run with from time to time -- she is my inspiration. She is a five time marathoner, we ran Disney together, and always seems to know just what to say at the right time.

I recently head of a group of runners that meet on Tuesdays and Saturdays in a park near a few miles away. The run the East Seminole trail (about 6 miles round trip). I'm thinking of checking things out and see if they'd mind a slow-polk like me joining. The other day I was passed by a turtle. It had some very unkind things to say. Who knew turtles could be so aggressive.

Happy Trails all,
Bob

Bump!

Did anyone here do the Lighthouse Run in St. Augustine or the St. Paddy's Day 10K last weekend?

Re: New Florida Runners Forum
Splish splash I was takin' a bath. Actually it was raining. Temp was around 60 and I was having motivational problems this morning. I felt as if I were carrying an extra 20 pounds. It was one of those runs where you just do the time and distance and don't even worry about the speed. Didn't help in that the usual folks I see during my runs didn't seem to be out this morning. Oh well it's Friday -- just three more working days til Monday.

Happy Trails all,
Bob

Good Morning all.

Well, I'm slowly legnthing my runs and my times are staying pretty consistant witch is good. I'm even doin' that negitive split thing which is really cool. At any rate I want to share the following web site with you.

http://www.seminolecountyfl.gov/trails/[/URL" target="_blank">

There is a big program to increase and improve the hike and bike trails in the county. These trails offer the opportunity to sting some really nice runs and rides.

Happy Trails all,

The best place in town for a long run without fighting a lot of traffic is the West Orange Trail out in Winter Garden. It's located about 10 miles north of attractions area. If you do the complete loop from the Trail head just west of Oakland to Apopka it will equal 30 miles. The distances are well marked and there are about four good resting areas along the way. Running in the attractions area can be dangerous because of the traffic.

In Tampa you may want to try along Bay Shore Drive. It's flat and runs a good long distance. The drive itself is right beside Hillsbourgh Bay. Part of the Hops Marathon covers the same route.

Happy Trails.

Hey Bob, those trails are beautiful! Do you run them often? I wish we had some trails nearby to run. There's a park near here that has trails but it's for mountain biking. I run them sometimes but they are only 3 miles long, hardly not worth the car trip.

There's another park that I go to every Monday night for hill runs and they have horse trails that I run on I just have to watch the horse poop! Those are nice because they're hilly but just not very scenic.

That's what I miss about Tallahassee, they have tons of trails to run on.

I run the ones in the eastern part of the county. It's about 3 miles from my house to the Cross Seminole trail out of Ovedo. I used it for part of my train-up for the Twin Cities. If I leave my house and loop through the differnt neighborhoods I can get a 23 mile route. There is also a group that meets every Tuesday and Saturday at 6 am that runs the east course. When the Cross Seminole Trail finally ties in to the Seminole Wekika Trail you could do a whole marathon.

Happy Trails,
Bob
