Re: Atlanta Runners' Thread
The Hyatt is only a block from the Marriott, so you can use the same info I posted earlier. Centennial Park isn't that big, so 4 - 5 miles would require several laps (no idea how many laps to a mile). You can take Techwood or Luckie Street and finish your run on Georgia Tech's campus.

Re: Atlanta Runners' Thread
I'm looking for a 5k to run at the beginning of June. Has anyone ever run the Virginia Highland Summerfest 5k? Is it fun? Lots of people?

Re: Atlanta Runners' Thread
I've never run the Virginia Highland Summerfest. I'm guessing it would be a rather small race, since it's getting hot in June. However, you may find a few Peachtree runners getting a speed session in at the event. I'm trying to decide if I want to run any races in May or June or just wait until July 4th. My training schedule is a challenge since the Peachtree is in the early stages of my Chicago marathon program.

Re: Atlanta Runners' Thread
Just got back from my 4 1/2 day stay in Atlanta. I was able to run 2 times from my hotel (Marriot Marquis) up to and around Piedmont Park. Another time I ran up Peachtree to Rhodes Hall and back. The weather cooperated as it only rained during the day that I was enclosed at a conference. I like how the convention center, Philips arena and the Georgia Dome are all together next to Olympic Park. It was all within walking distance of the hotel too. (Well, for a runner it was within walking distance.

Re: Atlanta Runners' Thread
Just found this thread thought I would chime in. Just did the Lake Hartwell Dam Race 10K Last Saturday. Peachtree RR next. I Saw the Disney Marathon mentioned, Wife and I signed up for 2005, first marathon. We did the Phili half last September and it was cool. A concern we have is finding a good LSD route. The most we have done is 13 and it is pretty hilly. We were thinking of driving to the Silver comet for our runs when they get real long during the training. As a reference we are in Gwinnett near Mall of GA.

Re: Atlanta Runners' Thread
I ran Disney last year and plan to run it again in 2005. It's a fun race, but you do have to get up early to get to the race. I stayed off Disney property and drove to Epcot with no problem.

I do some running on the Silver Comet trail (I live in Douglasville). The only problem is that it is a boring place for a 20 miler. I've done several there and it is mentally demanding, becasue the scenery doesn't change much. However, it's flat and there are just a few roads to cross.

Hi - I am new to this running scene, but committed to keeping up my training schedule. Any tips on a public running track, north side, near Perimeter Center Parkway?

Re: Atlanta Runners' Thread
moonjockey - I tend to like Stone Mountain Park better than Silver Comet despite the fact there are rolling hills in Stone Mountain. I've ran the Silver Comet in the past but it seems to me to be getting more and more crowded with walkers, runners, bikers and dogs. Plus its way over in Smyrna.

Stone Mountain Park is just short of 5 miles around the circumference of the mountain, is pretty easy to run in and doesn't have a whole lof of traffic if you run in the mornings. You can avoid the $7.00 car fee by parking in the village parking lot and then running from there to the pedestrian gate right beside the walk-up trail and Confederate Hall.

You can also try the Greenbelt Parkway in Alpharetta. It is 12 miles if you go out and back and reasonably flat.

Hiya,
I am also running Disney. My first!
I am in Athens.
I don't know the area that well where you are, but I used to live in Alpharetta and can second the Greenway that GaReb mentioned.
We will have to start a Disney thread on the Race Together forum soon.

Moonjockey, I ran the Dam Run too. That dip down to the river was a killer, was it not? Or rather the hill on the other side of it.

Re: Atlanta Runners' Thread
Macon Moves,
Yes the dip is steep and when we get to SC the hill is tough, especially since the road slants too. I saw a few folks fly down the hills and run out of steam on the up. This was my second year and I will go back again. I beat my last year time by about a minute. Its a fun race...

Dog Mom,
We should start a Disney thread. We have reservations at the Disney Sports Complex Hotel arriving Friday before the race. I am in Lawrenceville near the Mall of GA. I ran the Athens Banner 5K a few weeks ago in April. That was a cool race running around UGA and the stadium.
Wife and I are going to follow the Cool running schedule for the Beginners Marathon Training. The longest course we have mapped out leaving from the front door that doesn't kill us with hills is 14 miles.

I wanted to do that 5k, but had a conference to go to.

Is this yours and/or your wife's first marathon?
I am lucky that one of my Sisters lives in Orlando.

Dogmom,

Yes it is our first marathon. We did the Phili Half Marathon last year, that was the longest one we have done so far. we signed up early to motivate us to train. How about you??

My first too. I have run 4 halfs. And since I can't do well at those I decided to go for a marathon.
Seriously I am slow but I decided that it's now or never and if I didn't try then I would never know if I could do one.
I picked Disney since it has a 7 hour cut off. Just in case I blow up, I know I can crawl across the finish line in 7 hours.

I signed up early for the same reason.

WOO HOO!!
