florie LIVES...Yea!!!! (OK, actually I saw her at the Boxing Day Race in Hamilton, but it's nice to see she can still type.)

Around the Bay??? Of course...what would you rather be doing on a miserable Sunday at the end of March??? I'll use it as my last long run for Boston and plan to run with my running buddy Erika at a nice leisurely pace around 3 hours.

florie, is Run 4 the Heart still on this year??

BTW, I looked at that slush yesterday and said "Today I adore the dreadmill."

JC, do you own a treadmill or do you rent one as required like me?

Welcome back Florie! Good to see everyone posting lots on this board. Can I sign up for ATB at the last minute? I'm not sure I'll get my mileage up that high, so I'll have to make the decision at the last minute.

Seems like there are a few educators on this board. I've been considering going back to school for my teacher's degree. Anyone have any comments pro or con? I'm interested in teaching elementary school, but not real young kids - maybe grades 3 - 6? Many teachers have told me lately not to do it (I have a good job now that I enjoy) because the schools are such a mess right now, but it's something I've always thought about doing. I would love to hear your comments.

I managed to do a full hour yesterday on the treadmill. Haven't done that since last October! I'm slowly making my way back.

Well, I'm sitting here wasting this absolutely beautiful, sunny winter afternoon... I had very good intentions of going for a trail run, but lack of sleep has left me seriously lacking in motivation... I will attempt to redeem myself on the rock wall when I go climbing this evening

I hope everyone else put this beautiful day to good use!

And as florie can tell you I am also training for ATB, under her superior guidance... I'm a first timer, so I'm really looking forward to it!

around the bay? sure count me in. i can't really say i'm training for it, i'm just trying to increase my mileage so i'll be able to finish (not really sure if that's the same thing). however, i'm aiming to do it in about 3hours also. if anyone has more advice on the route, i'd be interested. i think JC says it's pretty flat up to the 18km mark, but i'm not sure how hilly it gets from there.

put in 13km or so today, screw shoes weren't much use in the snow. it just kept caking to the soles, like white mud. **** fine workout because of it though.

cheers ya'll

hey DawnT, looks like the latest you can register is the day before. info here: http://www.aroundthebayroadrace.com/30k/30kinfo.htm[/URL" target="_blank">

i'll probably be in much the same boat as you, i would really hate to throw the money away by not being able to show. so i think last minute registration would be wise.

cheers

I dropped out of Teacher's College in 1972, and it was the
worst mistake of my life. I had the attributes to be a great
teacher, and to be a significant human in a young person's
life.

Dalton's wife is a teacher, and I don't think he will let it fall
apart. I think that he buys into the concept that our future in
Ontario relies on a highly educated workforce and general
population. Many educated people throughout the world are
moving here to be a part of this process.

Hi everyone,
Bailed on my long run today. I went to a wedding last night and didn't get home til the wee hours of the morning, then was up at 6:30 with my kids. Had absolutely no energy, figured I could use a rest.

I've already registered for ATB (it gives me the motivation to get running), looking forward to it. I'm also running the Chilly Half in Burlington, beginning of March. I live in Hamilton so a lot of my routes are part of the ATB route. I train the Valley Inn hill about once every two months (it takes me about that long to work up to it). For those runners who have never run ATB, it's fairly flat until 18k, then the next 9k or so are rolling hills with a nice big steep one at the 27k mark. I think part of the difficulty of that hill is the steep one you have to run down before going up the big one, it kills my quads every time. I'm hoping to finish around the 3hr mark.

Dawn - I'm an elementary school teacher, currently teaching grade 5. I've been doing it for about 11 years and love it. The political stuff can sometimes get really frustrating and parents are not always on your side but I love working with kids. Lack of resources have been another source of frustration but there are ways to work through it. There are always negatives to every job but when a kid who's been struggling to understand a concept suddenly catches on, it makes it all worthwhile. Try volunteering (if you have time) if you're not sure and ask the teacher if you can teach some lessons. It will give you an idea if it's for you. Good luck!!!

Happy running everyone!

Argh... everyone in my entire office has been sick with the flu... Just the other day I was patting myself on the back for not getting it... I think my luck may be running out...

On the upside though I had a great night at the climbing gym last night Got in some super climbs and even surprised myself on some of the routes. Now if only my queasy stomach, clammy hands and aching muscles would disappear so I could enjoy my run tonight...

Teachers Teachers Teachers...the bane of the earth.

Teachers love to tell war stories of the horrors of their job. Check the stats on how many leave...extremely low. Methinks they dost protest too much on occasion.

They are well paid (won't get rich) have excellent benefits, a fabulous pension plan, and great holidays.
And...if that is any of the reason you would consider it...DON'T!!!. You have to love kids and love working with them through all the annoyances and frustrations.

If there's anything you need to know about teachers...don't ask me...I'm a principal and I know nothing...hee hee.

You can always teach college. I've just picked up two courses. The kids are annoying, but you have more freedom to put your fingers in your ears and shout "LALALALA". Of course university is the best for this. .
