Uh, I've worked about four shifts, I don't know anything.

As far as the walking breaks go, yeah, as a faster runner all my (fellow fast-running) friends make fun of me for working there in general. I was a bit taken back to find out from a clinic leader that anyone running the entire long run is a macho wannabe-hero and running under 3:30 makes you elite.

Re: Ontario Runners Forum 2004
Hey all! Happy Thanksgiving!!! Spending the weekend down in the States. Ate way too much the last 2 days and I have another family party tonight. I've been running so I'm hoping I'm at least keeping even with the eating I've been doing. Probably not, but one can only hope.

For anyone who's interested, I've heard of a new place in the GTA that's going to provide fitness testing. Check out the website at www.imfit.ca[/URL" target="_blank"> .

My God...I ran 3:28...I'm a Kenyan.

Patti...All clinics are 10 and 1, but not everyone races them that way. Personal Best was dumped because they had no real focus...some 10K people some marathoners. Made as much sense as using Learn to Run for everyone who can barely walk to people who in 10 weeks will run sub 20 5K's.

aurang...I'm laughing. The runner's credo is: "If you want to screw up your training work for Running Room."

Not true, but I know where they come from.

The "walking" apparel entered the store on Friday...pretty soon it will be half and half.

I don't think walkers should be shot, but they surely shouldn't breathe our air.

RR has been really successful, but they surely don't cater to fast runners. As a matter of fact I've been getting some grief because a couple of runners in my Learn to Run are gonna go under 25 minutes in the Santa Shuffle on Saturday and that's almost a no-no...they might burst a blood vessel.

Re: Ontario Runners Forum 2004
Hey all! Got back at 1:30 this morning. Traffic was awful. Next year I have to remember to not travel on the busiest travel day of the year!!! That was dumb! Not thinking too clearly today. It's so much harder now to go without a full night's sleep. Guess I'm getting old.

Since we're discussing The Running Room I have to bring up my pet peeve. Why is it they always set up a new store in the same neighborhood or street as an existing and established independent running store? I've seen it way too often and it ****** me off. There are lots of places RR can set up shop. Why do they have to keep crowding the independents? Seems kind of slimy to me. They have now moved into the same neighborhood as Endurosport near York Mills and Leslie. I am never going to purchase anything from them again.

Re: Ontario Runners Forum 2004
Strep, I second that. If I was a female, I would love to have Kiefer's children. I can't wait until 24 is back on the air.

My choice would've been Laurier, but I'm more of an old school Canadian, having been in the country for...oh, 12 years. I'm just glad an athlete or entertainer didn't get it. Douglas is probably a sensible choice, given that healthcare is our ethos.

I don't think that the Running Room will ever screw up my training, I'm not even sure if it's possible for me to run much slower than 5:15/5:30 unless I'm running more than 10 times a week. I'm never going to lead a clinic, it would simply be too vexing.

Hey, I remember when I first ran 5-minute kilometres, I thought I was really something. That's actually what ticks me off about the RR, slow people don't always stay slow. Slow people with absolutely no talent sometimes wind up running for universities.

I'm coming off a break, I was going to race the Santa Shuffle downtown and try to get low 18s/17s. Thankfully I'm working, because I would've probably insulted a lot of people. I ran it in Brampton last year with two friends, one of them a girl who probably runs 22-23. We finished 1-2-3, and I stopped racing after having to stop at a traffic light. We enjoyed the perfect finish even without prizes, but we felt really bad about showing up everyone that was there, though we didn't intend to.

I know a guy that works at the Walking Room. That's still not nearly as funny as the walking clinic. FFS, who pays money to, um, go for walks?

And, finally, have you ever seen the incredibly expensive winter pants, selling for $110 plus tax? Or the $15 socks...

Tommy Douglas did more than just author medicare. He pursued fairness & justice all of his life. In that sense he epitomized Canadian values. I think even the Trudeaus and Lauriers in Canada would agree with Douglas as the greatest Canadian.

Patti........i know i'm late but i still wanted to say"I'm sorry" that this has happened. You wrote a beautiful tribute of him.

JC, i've been told that you are runing Vegas.....so am I. Are you doing the full or the 1/2. I'm doing the half. We're leaving on Friday and coming back on Tuesday. Are you taking a group down?

Hope everyone is doing well.

I see that Endurosport has opened a store in the Beaches, about a kilometer or so from the Beaches Running Room. A little payback?

I've got to say I'm not a real fan of Tommy Douglas.

I'm not sure why you would say that. At your age you probably don't have as good a grasp of his impact on society because you weren't around to see him in person.

I was raised in Saskatchewan. Although I grew up just after he moved up to federal politics I remember his election campaigns and how he was treated by everyone who knew him regardless of their political leanings. He was so highly respected by all parties that they gave him a permanent seat in the house, even after he retired from active politics.

On another subject...good luck at the nationals.
