hey, irish

i usually run a loop just east of fortesque avenue - behind school 3, down by the derby area, then back up towards brower---it's pretty flat and there aren't too many cars

when i have time i jump in the car and run the boardwalk at long beach

i'm still meaning to run on the sand on the beach at sunrise one of these days

there's supposed to be a nice path at the norman levy preserve on merrick road and the meadowbrook, i haven't tried to run it yet

i have run on the track at ohs, but i prefer a firmer surface

have a great semester!

Re: Long Island Cool Runners out There
Any recommendations for a Long Island Running Club that caters to the newbie runner? I am thinking (I may be wrong) that the clubs and their runs on Long Island might be too long for me to keep up with. Do you wait to join a club until you can do some decent mileage each run? Any suggestions.

What town are you in? A lot of clubs have different groups that go out for different speeds/pace.

I run on Long Island!

I just came home from school though, and I'm finding running around my town horrendous... Any good suggestions for places to run on the South Shore where there aren't cars everywhere?

<HR>

Try the Levy Park & Preserve on Merrick Road in Merrick. It overlooks the south bay and the Merrick golf course. It has some REALLY tough hills and the trail aound the top is 1/2 mile and the trail aound the bottom is 1.6 miles. I usually do a 9 to 12 miler ther every Saturday or Sunday. The view at the top is awesome.Just make sure you use bug spray. It's very woody and there aree signs warning of ticks although I've never had a problem there. Enjoy

Hope everyones summer was good and everyone is ready for the nice fall running weather - although this summer was pretty nice for running alot of cool days..
